TUMBLEWEED Impossible to Install VMware Player 16.1.2 in Tumbleweed - Kernel 5.12.4-1-default

Hi everybody,
I have a serious issue when I try to install the new VMware Player 16.1.2 yesterday morning.

The installer uninstall my 16.1.1 version then try to install the new and fail... Just with this message :
Code:

Extracting VMware Installer...done.

Installation was unsuccessful.

I'm running OpenSuse Tumbleweed with the 5.12.4-1-default kernel

Seems to "stop" the process on installing the USB arbitrator ... I don't know "who is" this USB Arbitrator....
Do you have any idea ?
Actually I'm in pain because the previous VM was uninstalled by installator...

I have posted this message on the VMware Workstation Forum ( https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VM...2848465#M36816) and I have seen at least one guy in the same situation.

His message with a lot of informations in console is visible here : https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VM...U3xoSw#M170109

He also answer me he had same problem of USB detections previous of this problem.
Quote:

One hint I suspect is that the new update of OpenSUSE eliminates the legacy 'chkconfig' for installing startup services, in which VMWARE still relies, So I had to start manually the vmware.service and vmware-USBArbitrator.services before starting the virtual machines. Then the USB periferics worked well.
So, I'm here because I don't know how to inform the Kernel's developpers of Tumbleweed about this serious problem...

Thank you very much for the help
Best regards

Meson macros - any documentation?

Hi. I am using cmake macros in my packages, but now I need to make rpm containing project build with meson.

I was using %cmake, %cmake_build and %cmake_install. I found a documentation somewhere. Is there similar macros for meson?

TUMBLEWEED zypper dup: invalid repositories

Hi,

I've been having issues, initially maybe due to sharing/updating Win10 on separate partition (https://forums.opensuse.org/showthre...n-10-partition). Per the initial thread, I got back up and running following a snapper rollback.

Now, applications are slow to load/respond. And now on updates, I get the response below. I've also been running TW on a separate TW-only desktop for a couple of years and haven't seen this, don't really know what to make of it. Updates on that other system just ran fine without issue. Any explanations on the invalid repositories below?

TUMBLEWEED Btrfs with Zstd compression on legacy BIOS root filesystem except /boot

$

Hi there, it looks like Tumbleweed builds GRUB2 without Zstd support because the resulting binary with Zstd would be too big for MBR installation on legacy BIOS systems. But in order to still use Zstd compression on the rest of the Btrfs filesystem, it appears that it should work to run sudo chattr -R -c +m /boot and then enable Zstd compression in /etc/fstab. Am I correct? Are there any future issues that could come up when running a system like this? Thanks!

LEAP 15.2 How to display a bluray with VLC

Hi there and many thx for reading and answering this post if you can:

I'm thriving to read a bluray with vlc 3.0.13 from opensuse 15.2
of course libaacs0 is present ans I also downloaded KEYDB.cfg and put it into .config/aacs as recommended. So far so good, but when I run vlc and try to read the bluray I get:

syntax error: line 1
bad entry at or around line 1
aacs.c:597: Error calculating media key. Missing right processing key ?
aacs.c:111: No usable AACS libraries found!
dec.c:197: aacs_open() failed: -3!
bdj.c:689: BD-J check: Failed to load JVM library
bdj.c:689: BD-J check: Failed to load JVM library
[00007f6ee80010d0] libbluray demux: First play: 0, Top menu: 0
HDMV Titles: 2, BD-J Titles: 87, Other: 87

I also converted KEYDB.cfg with

sed -i 's/\([[:xdigit:]]\)\{5,\}/0x&/g' ~/.config/aacs/KEYDB.cfg

but it was even worse.

What's wrong ?

Thx again for reading this post

LEAP 15.3 fan cooler at maximum speed no matter what cpu load is

Dear all.

It has been a while I had to make a fan cooler replacement in my laptop; since then I could not get back fan speed control (i.e., according to cpu load), so the fan is always running at maximum speed no matter what the cpu load is. Even at the start, at booting the laptop, the fan is already at highest speed. I had previous a problem that might be related, namely, screen brightness could not be controlled. This was overcome when I added “acpi_backlight=video” as a parameter for "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=“ in /etc/default/grub; curiously this allows me to control brightness at linux , but not at windows (this laptop is dual boot) , where the screen keeps at + - half the brightness. For some reason I have two EFI partitions in my SSD, I think the first was created when I installed windows, then, linux which, as far as I remember, required a larger efi partition. Recently I changed from Leap 15.1 into a brand new Leap 15.3 installation, but the problem persists. The laptop is a lenovo P400.
Points to where I could find possible solutions to this problem are welcome.

Thank you,

Jorge

Code:

su
cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab.orig

Fijne avond allen!

TUMBLEWEED Rip DVD codec issue, new to openSUSe moved from Ubuntu please help

$

Hello, I have a bunch of DVDs I'm trying to backup to my computer for my personal media server, and I'm loving openSUSE so far, running Tumbleweed. However, I seem to be missing important codecs. Now here's the issue, since I have no idea what I'm doing in openSUSE and I'm not amazingly great in Linux in general, I've managed to partially install the codecs needed. I've installed everything I could find even remotely related, I have tons of broken packages and all kinds of a mess when it comes to codecs.

I've unsuccessfully installed tons of codecs from all sources trying to get K3B and Handbrake to work on my new openSUSE system like it did in Ubuntu. I could really use some help. I think at this point, if someone could direct me to all needed codecs in one spot (hopefully), or something, or list all the codecs with the right ones to get for the current tumbleweed version, it would really, really be appreciated.

Also I hope I posted this in the right spot, thanks for the help. I look forward to using openSUSE for a long time, this really is my only issue so far. Everything else works great.

I may have done a mistake and I would appreciate who may help me.

Before the issue occurred, I wanted to remove the branding by openSUSE applied to the GRUB menu, by uninstalling "grub2-branding-openSUSE". But I didn't realize to install "grub2-branding-upstream".
Now when turning on my laptop this appears:
