I recently started using an openVPN service, and have set it up on three openSuSE 12.3 KDE machines. All 3 are pretty standard installations with all the latest updates. I used NetworkManager to set up the openVPN connections, using the instructions from the provider's site:
Move ca.crt to /etc/openvpn
Open the Network Manager on the menu bar.
Choose add and select the OpenVPN connection type, and click Create.
Enter Private Internet Access SSL for the Connection Name.
Enter us-california.privateinternetaccess.com for the Gateway
Select Password and enter your login credentials.
Browse and select the CA Certificate we saved in Step 3.
Choose Advanced and enable LZO Compression.
Apply and exit.
Connect using the Network Manager.
This got things working on two machines, one 32-bit, the other 64-bit, using either wired or wireless connections. When I click the VPN connection in NetworkManager on those two, a window pops up to insert the password, then the connection succeeds. On the third machine (32-bit), clicking the VPN connection does not get a password window, and the connection fails. When I try to edit the connection properties on the non-connecting machine by clicking the "Edit" button in the shot below, after about a 10 second delay, I get the error message below that. Clicking "OK" in the error box brings up the edit window, but setting to store the password does not stick.
I have compared network and firewall settings on all three machines, and they seem identical.
Any idea what is wrong on the non-connecting machine, and what the error message indicates?
Thanks,
Howard
