Network manager reports wlan unavailable

Hi

I installed OpenSuse 13.1 after trashing my hard drive and replacing it in my Dell Inspiron M5010 laptop. The install on the new HD was good and the laptop worked almost as before including the Wlan connection through a Broadcom which configured with network manager easily (see below for more info on the controller).

This morning for no apparent reason my connection dropped (on the laptop not the router) and network manager now says "wlan unavailable" and that the it is blocked by the hardware. Also the "enable wireless" box is grey and can't be checked. I checked around generally but not sure which way to go with this.

It may not be relevant bur before I noticed the broken connection I installed Photorec and also haven't been able to configure the wireless printer.I have a wired connection at the moment but really want to get the wireless working again.

Thanks for any help.
