Ok, guys this is the second time I post here, although this time it's more like I'm asking for an opinion than an actual solution to an actual problem. I have an old system with openSUSE 13.1 installed (AMD 64bit, mthrbrd chipset K8T800 PRO), and by now I think I have handled all of the technical difficulties that come along with installing a modern OS on an old junk of hardware (more or less).
One thing remains though. After the install I had glitch with the display, where the graphics were uncomplete and parts from the desktop objects were missing or were being fuzzy. Later I discovered that the default installation sets the graphics to use the OpenGL 2.0 renderer, but the installed graphics card has support only for up to OpenGL 1.2. The question here is whether this is the maximum that I can get with the "nouveau" driver that ships with openSUSE, or should I bother installing the NVIDIA proprietary display driver? Is that even possible on openSUSE 13.1?
