Booted up openSUSE and got "ERROR: No boot disk has been detected or the disk..."

openSUSE has booted perfectly every day but today when I booted up it was a black screen with "ERROR: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed." I held the power button to shut down and restarted and it's now running ok. But I'm afraid data might get corrupted.

1. What caused this and how do i figure that out?
2. How do I tell if any data is corrupted?
3. Can I tell if there's a hardware problem?
