LEAP 15.1 VLC update - no longer can stream videos from smb share

For some time I have used VLC to stream multimedia from a NAS drive over smb. The files play immediately, and do not transfer to a local cache.

This is Leap 15.1 KDE with all multimedia from packman. After a packman update 23 April, files now have to download locally to play. It looks similar to an issue discussed in https://forums.opensuse.org/showthre...from-smb-share

Have others had this behavior? What is a workaround to get back to the previous performance?
