On a ASUS F550E AMD Quad Core A6 5200 2.0GHz 8 GB RAM Laptop with Windows 8 pre installed I have installed openSUSE 13.1 in a dual configuration. OpenSUSE with 3 partitions, /, swap & /home. I established the partitions using Gparted and checked them with Windows Disk Manager. Interestingly Windows disk manager doesn´t show the MS reserve partition but Gparted does.
During the installation of openSUSE 13.1 in the Booting settings it mentions the following:
Partition number > 3 is being used for booting with GPT partition table.
.Boot Loader Type: GRUB 2
.Status Location: /dev/sda 7 (¨/¨)
.Change Location:
.Boot from MBR is disabled
.Boot from ¨/¨ is enabled
Q1. Are these Change Location settings for booting correct?
The ´BIOS´ is an Aptio Setup Utility which has an Add New Boot Option:
Type in distro name - OpenSUSE 13.1
Select a file system - which includes BootX64.EFI
Select a file to boot - chose <Boot> from <..>, <Microsoft>, <Boot> & <ASUS>
Select a file to boot - BOOTX64.EFI
Boot option file path - EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI
Create
Please set Boot Option Name and File path - OK
OpenSUSE 13.1 now appears in the Boot Option list BUT CDROM boot option has vanished!
Saved setting and laptop reboots straight into W8!
No sign of a boot selection page.
Q2. Does that boot path above appear OK?
Q3. What now to achieve selection of either OS to boot?
So near, yet so far!
:)
