Looking at the various posts, there doesn't seem to be one single solution to this problem. Some threads suggest dumping this file: .xsession-errors-:0 It is 1200+lines. I have an intel GPU, but don't use the intel drive since it locks up. Hardware is a Dell Latitude E6400
Linux linux-0u81 4.4.114-42-default #1 SMP Tue Feb 6 10:58:10 UTC 2018 (b6ee9ae) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

LEAP 42.3 Random system hangs

$

I've been experiencing infrequent system hangups since I installed Leap 42.3 back in mid September, probably about 2-3 times per week when using the system for ~30 hours. I suspect it is due to the new motherboard/cpu/ram to which I upgraded, since the video card moved to my new setup, however I'm not experienced enough to understand how to isolate the issue.

The symptom is the entire display freezing, however I still have movement of my mouse. No amount of keyboard input (including ctrl+alt+f1) or any other shortcut has any effect on the freezeness. The only thing that appears to work is a powercycle. I've not yet been able to identify any action(s) that cause the hangups. Some occur while playing games like factorio, another occurred while trying to watch a video in vlc while playing games, others of during random web browsing.

I've extensively run memtest86 without finding any issues with the ram. I've run some cpu stressing software on Windows without issue.

I'd like to know if anybody has a similar issue, possible solutions, or suggestions on how I can better monitor to isolate the issue causing the freezes.

I'm not sure if this helps, but here's my journalctl -p +3 output from the past week. I recall a hangup occurring within the past two days, but I didn't keep an accurate record to know when. In case a blaring issue stand out to anyone:

LEAP 42.3 Clicking a link in newsbeuter (from konsole) or in claws-mail opens it in Chromium after a very long

Hi,

I am experiencing this issue using KDE Plasma desktop: When I click a link from a mail message in claws-mail or from a news article in newsbeuter it opens after 20-30 seconds (or more) in the default browser (Chromium).

I reported that as a bug but it was closed as WORKSFORME, so I guess it is something in my system only. Unfortunately I don't know what it may be.

Has anyone any idea how to fix this?

i am confused over latest conflict

Code:

2 Problems:
Problem: nothing provides libvlccore.so.8 needed by phonon4qt5-backend-vlc-0.9.0-3.2.i586
Problem: vlc-3.0.0-4.4.x86_64 requires vlc-noX = 3.0.0-4.4, but this requirement cannot be provided

Problem: nothing provides libvlccore.so.8 needed by phonon4qt5-backend-vlc-0.9.0-3.2.i586
Solution 1: Following actions will be done:
  keep obsolete vlc-noX-2.2.8-5.10.x86_64
  keep obsolete libvlc5-2.2.8-5.10.x86_64
 Solution 2: deinstallation of phonon4qt5-backend-vlc-0.9.0-3.2.x86_64
 Solution 3: keep obsolete vlc-noX-2.2.8-5.10.x86_64
Solution 4: break phonon4qt5-backend-vlc-0.9.0-3.2.i586 by ignoring some of its dependencies

can anyone provide guidance?

TUMBLEWEED Kernel bug after rmmod

$

I have a PCI-E USB 3.0 card and a USB 3.0 hub which is connected to it.
Everything is working out of box but sometimes it stops working so i'm performing a kernel module reload

Code:

sudo rmmod xhci_pci
sudo modprobe xhci_pci

That usually fixes all problems.

But lately i started to have a problem with this method.
rmmod causes a kernel bug pastebin, kernel module xhci_pci cannot be removed "device or resource is busy" after modprobe,
devices stops working until reboot is performed.

I'm using openSUSE Tumbleweed x86_64 with linux 4.15.2-1-default.

TUMBLEWEED Tumble weed ran updates, now gdm fails

Applied updates, it asked to restart and install. FYI: just using the default repo's for tumbleweed, nothing extra.

It restarted and now gdm is broke.
Code:

[ OK ] Started session c73 of user gdm.
[ OK ] Started Process Core Dump (PID 3614/UID 0).
[ OK ] Removed slice User Slice of gdm.
[ OK ] Ceated slice User Slice of gdm.
[FAILED] Failed to start User Manager for UID 464.
See 'systemctl status user@464.service' for details.

This just repeats over and over.

i tried to uninstall gnome and resinstall, that didn't fix anything.

I tried this, it didn't work as it just wants to break many of the dependencies.

Is the easiest fix to use yast2 snapper and revert back to the snapper snapshot when the updates were ran?

It's my primary computer so a fast fix would be great... I can't seem to find anyone else experiencing this except on arch and ubuntu forums. Most of them fix it by switching to lxdm, which is fine but it's not a fix, it's a work around. So is just reverting to the snapshot but i need my computer lol.

LEAP 42.3 Why xdg-open reacts so slowly?

$

Recently I found that the first 3-4 times I click a link in programs like newsbeuter or claws-mail everything works fine - the link opens in the default browser instantly.

However next clicks open more and more slowly (after 20-30 sec, then more than a minute etc). Even typing 'xdg-open https://opensuse.org' in console is terribly slow.

I have opened a bug report for that but still I would be interested to know if anyone could give more info (and possibly a solution).

TUMBLEWEED Asus Q325UA won't charge if plugged in while suspended

Got a new laptop a couple weeks ago and noticed it doesn't always charge when I plug it in. It seems like if I plug it in while it's sleeping (lid closed) it won't charge, but if I plug it in while it's on, and then close the lid, it will charge while it's sleeping, or at least as indicated by the orange charge light. It also charges if I plug it in while it's completely off. Curious if this is a kernel/firmware thing or if it's just a quirk of this laptop. Has anyone else experienced this?

TUMBLEWEED Expert partitioner behavior changed. I cannot assign /boot/EFI any more!

$

During the tumbleweed installation, I usually took "expert partition" option, which allowed to keep the current partition table as much as I can.
The new version of the partitioning program does not seem to allow taking the existing FAT partition that I need to import as /boot/EFI any more.

I went back to Leap to see whether the partitioning program behavior to confirm the new tumbleweed partitioner has this new bug.

Thanks for any help in advance

TUMBLEWEED Can an EFI-type GRUB2 Launch a legacy Windows bootloader?

$

I have an EFI-type GRUB2 installation on my internal hard disk that is used to boot various Linux distros, a.o. Tumbleweed. The laptop BIOS is set to use UEFI boot mode. The internal HD is GPT-partitioned. All Linux are 64 bits.

Additionally, I have an external hard disk (via eSATA) that is MBR-partitioned. It holds a Windows 8.1 64-bit, installed in legacy mode. Nevertheless, I can boot this legacy Windows using the laptop BIOS boot device selector at start-up without having to change the laptop BIOS setting to legacy boot mode.

I would like to know whether I can Lauch the Windows legacy bootloader from my EFI-type GRUB2 (chainload +1 to the system-reswrterved partition of the Windows installation??? ??? ???). I tried, but it fails.

(A) Either this crossing the EFI / BIOS boundaries is impossible, or (b) I am doing something wrong in my 40_custom code.

Any definitive statements wrt (a)?
Some code (b)?

LEAP 42.3 zypper - non-interactive mode accepting only specific key

Hi folks,

Looking to automate addition of repo and software in Dockerfile.

The goal is to automate snapd installation:

Code:

RUN zypper addrepo http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/system:/snappy/openSUSE_Leap_42.3/ snappy
RUN zypper install snapd
RUN systemctl enable --now snapd.socket

What I am missing is how to make zypper non-interactice, that checks that GPG key is valid. It is not about --no-gpg-check nor --gpg-auto-import-keys, but about non interactive import of known key.

Code:

New repository or package signing key received:

Code:

zypper dup

Thanks,
