LEAP 15 Tensorflow + Nvidia + Cuda as OneClick Install

Guten Abend zusammen,

laborier hier schon seit einiger Zeit,
um unter Open Suse Leap 15:

*KI Framework Tensorflow-GPU
*Nvidia
*Nvidia CUDA

Such mir hier einen Wolf :-)

die "beste" Anleitung was ich gefunden habe war die hier:
https://www.tensorflow.org/install/i...lingVirtualenv

https://software.opensuse.org/package/cuda-8.0

Hans

OTHER VERSION "write error: Broken pipe" after su to root from tcsh (openSUSE 13.2)

$

Hi!

I understand that openSUSE 13.2 is no longer officially supported. However, I wonder whether anyone has any advice how to solve a Broken pipe error.

My user account is set to tcsh while the root account is left to the default bash. When I switch to root on the commad line using `su`, the command

ls -lt | head

produces "ls: write error: Broken pipe" at the end of the output. This is something that happens only in some folders, for example:

# ls -lt /etc/ | head
total 2996
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 82 2018-07-17 12:32 profile.local
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 59 2018-07-17 12:32 csh.login.local
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 172441 2018-07-06 23:03 ld.so.cache
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 2018-07-06 19:09 sysconfig
drwxr-xr-x 10 root root 4096 2018-05-28 20:06 apache2
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2018-05-09 11:57 octave
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2018-05-09 11:57 ld.so.conf.d
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2018-05-09 11:57 rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 110 2018-03-26 16:53 bash.bashrc.local
ls: write error: Broken pipe

According to this explanation:

http://www.unixguide.net/unix/bash/E2.shtml

such an error is due to `head` closing reading before `ls` is done writing. It's not really a problem, just an annoying error message. If I
type

ls 2>&1 -lt /etc/ | head

then the error message does not appear. Also, if I login directly to the root account, either remotely or with

ssh root@localhost

then the Broken pipe error message does not appear either. So, it seems to be due to the combination of tcsh and su to root (bash). Is there any way to troubleshoot it?

I also want to mention that I am familiar with sudo, but I prefer `su`.

Thanks!

LEAP 15 How does GNOME Handle backlight, and how can I do it from CLI without root privileges?

Good day, folks.
I recently purchased a new laptop from Tuxedo Computers of Germany, and all in all it is quite lovely.
I do have a question regarding backlight management, though. When in the GNOME desktop, there is a slider applet in the top bar that lets me adjust the brightness of the computer.
I am curious how GNOME accomplishes this without root privileges on a system with 8th gen Intel laptop processor and graphics. I want to do this myself in my i3wm configuration.
I have tried xbacklight, but it tells me that no displays have the backlight property. Currently I edit as super user the file "/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness" and insert the appropriate value between 1 and ~3400.
If it is not feasible to adjust the backlight the way GNOME does it, I could really use any way to adjust it that does not require root permissions.
Thank you all so much!

LEAP 15 Partitions on that laptop needing root privilege to mount

I have two partitions on the laptop that are locked to user(s), and when I access them via root, they mount instead of reading what is there.
Both partitions look to be duplication of / and /Home. Are they possibly links of some sort to / and /Home?

Is this a product of my having set a partition as BTRFS during install?
How do I get them back to where they are empty, and mount at start up?

Hi;

When I want to explore the configuration of, and/or connect to another WiFi

by clicking on the NetworkManager it ask me for my root password and everything GUI freeze.

The only thing I could do is CTRL+ALT+DELETE and/or CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE

I don't remember it was like this after the installation
I don't remember when it start, after which config/parameter I change to make this happen.

if anyone have a hint for me
I'll take it ;)

I'm running XFCE 4.12 with NetworkManager 1.10.8-1.2

Applying a patch using Kompare

Hi,
I need a little help to apply a patch using Kompare. The patch is a diff file that applies to a tree a/program/.... and should store the result in b/program/...
When I open the diff file from the same directory where variant a is located, I can apply the changes, but when I try to save the error message
Code:

The temporary file can not be uploaded. The temporary file is still available at /tmp/kompare.wZ3508. You can copy it manually to the right location.
this happens for each hunk in the diff file. Same error appears if I create variant b, same content as a, and try to apply the change.
Any idea how to get this running (and not using patch-command)?

TUMBLEWEED Recommandet Wifi-adapter

I'm strugling to get wifi to work stable. I've an 7 year old Dell Studio 17 with a Broadcom Limited BCM43228 802.11a/b/g/n Wifi-adapter (mini-PCI)
I always get problems in connecting to wifi after reboot after system update. It seems like there is some problem between BC43-driver, KDE Network Manager and KWallet Manager.

The problem is that the wifi refuse to connect with no errors. Sometimes it repeatedly ask for the PSK-passpfrase even if i enter the correct one. What seems to work is to enable connetion to all users, so i have to enter root-password to can connect after reboot.
When i get this problem, i have to delete Wifi-profile, reboot, connect (refuse to connect, no error-msg), reboot, edit Wifi-profile to allow all users to use this connection, enter root-password, reboot, manual click connect, enter root-password, enter KWallet passpfrase, enter WPA2-key, refuse to connect, click again manual connect, now it connect.
Now it will work until new Dist Update and the problem is back. Sometimes it refuse to connect at all and i have to rollback to previous version. It doesn't matter if i connect til 5GHz or 2,4GHz. It doens't matter what user i'm logged into. When it refuse to connect, the SSID disappeare from the list over available networks. I have to delete the profile or reboot computer to make it appear again.

So i suspect the B43-adapter and its driver is in so bad shape and so full of bugs, that i want to replace it.

So what mini-PCI Wifi-adapter is to recommand?

My working setup is a central 30" 2560x1600 screen flanked on each side by rotated 1200x1600 screens. After logging into KDE all is working perfect, no problems there.

[1:1200x1600][2:2560x1600][3:1200x1600]

But before I log in, the screens are logically arranged [2][1][3] and the two side screens are not rotated. Is there a way to get the correct ordering and rotation for the logon screen? I'm using KDE and whatever the default logon manager is, I haven't made any changes to those defaults. My box is plain TW with KDE selected.

The current situation is better than old times. It used to be that one had to painfully fiddle with xorg.conf until it worked right. Today, it's very quick to adjust screen placement and orientation in KDE control panel (though clockwise/counterclockwise buttons are reversed!) quickly, but the cost seems to be the logon screen is wrong.

Hi, I have a new laptop and try to install the SuSe 15.0 Leap on it. Everything has worked well except the installation of the network connection. I use the networkmanager in KDE.
I have a wired connection (ADSL). I know the hostname, the login name and the password, and have no mechanical problem with the modem or the connections.
I use the same connection with my old laptop with SuSe 13.2 and everithing is OK with it.
But when I'm trying to do the same with this new one there's no options like DSL or PPP, and now i have no idea what to do.

Could you help me? Thank you so much

TUMBLEWEED Grub does not add Arch Linux boot line correctly

If you have Arch Linux installed and install openSUSE, the ability to boot into Arch Linux leads to no where unless you insert the missing part.
Here is what the Arch Linux entry looks like:
Code:

menuentry 'Arch Linux (rolling) (on /dev/sdc6)' --class arch --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os $menuentry_id_option 'osprober-gnulinux-simple-bbca28b2-503e-4dc8-9850-c54bd0492da8' {
    insmod part_gpt
    insmod fat
    set root='hd2,gpt1'
    if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then
      search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root --hint-bios=hd2,gpt1 --hint-efi=hd2,gpt1 --hint-baremetal=ahci2,gpt1  688D-126B
    else
      search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 688D-126B
    fi
    linuxefi /vmlinuz-linux root=UUID=bbca28b2-503e-4dc8-9850-c54bd0492da8 rw quiet
    initrdefi /intel-ucode.img
}

This is what is should look like:
Code:

menuentry 'Arch Linux (rolling) (on /dev/sdc6)' --class arch --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os $menuentry_id_option 'osprober-gnulinux-simple-bbca28b2-503e-4dc8-9850-c54bd0492da8' {
    insmod part_gpt
    insmod fat
    set root='hd2,gpt1'
    if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then
      search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root --hint-bios=hd2,gpt1 --hint-efi=hd2,gpt1 --hint-baremetal=ahci2,gpt1  688D-126B
    else
      search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 688D-126B
    fi
    linuxefi /vmlinuz-linux root=UUID=bbca28b2-503e-4dc8-9850-c54bd0492da8 rw quiet
    initrdefi /intel-ucode.img /initramfs-linux.img
}

If I have grub on openSUSE, I have to press 'e' and edit that line to insert the red part or it will not boot into Arch.
I opened this bug hoping that others that are affected can add their name to it.

LEAP 15 Can't Have No Grub Password

$

Hi Geekos!

I just set up a machine with Leap 15 (I wiped the hard drive and Leap is the only OS installed btw). Since then, on boot, I am asked for my grub password. Grub2 will tell me it needs to decrypt the master key for "hd0, gpt" (I think that's what's written).

I cannot remember to have actively asked for an encrypted boot menu, and since my LVM is encrypted anyway, I find it rather annoying. I have the suspicion, that somewhere in the installation process, something forced this onto my – lucky enough, it took my root password for it :X.

Anyway, I'd like to get rid of this … but in /etc/grub.d/40_custom (kindof where I'd expect it), there is no 'password' line; In fact, none of the files in /etc/grub.d/ even contains the string 'password', and /boot/grub2/grub.cfg does neither. Yes, I ran grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg, and no, in YaST the checkbox is un-ticked … but still, I am prompted for my password every time I boot the PC. What's wrong here?

Oh, and btw: Yes, I could re-install openSUSE, that wouldn't bother me much – but since I didn't actively opt-in for any grub encryption this time, I just feel it won't be very helpful.

Any ideas, anybody? Thanks in advance!

LEAP 42.3 Switching to vanilla kernel - pros and cons?

$

Hi,

1. What exactly does openSUSE patch in the kernel and why?
2. What would be the pros and cons of switching to vanilla kernel?

LEAP 15 Bumblebee error on boot: [FAILED] Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.

$

I have two desktop machines with fresh Leap 15.0 installs, both up-to-date on updates, both of which are tripping over the same bumblebee (bbswitch) module load error on boot. Both of these are desktops with NVidia GPUs (PCIe cards), not laptops with Optimus graphics and an embedded NVidia GPU.

This has to do with kernel module loading. So before I potentially foul up my system, I thought I'd ask here to see what the safest method of resolving this problem is.

Here are the symptoms: First, the error in the boot-up log

Code:

[FAILED] Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.
See 'systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service' for details.

Here is the output of "systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service":

Code:

systemd-modules-load.service - Load Kernel Modules
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-modules-load.service; static; vendor preset: disabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Thu 2018-07-19 19:43:54 CDT; 55min ago
    Docs: man:systemd-modules-load.service(8)
          man:modules-load.d(5)
 Main PID: 833 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)

Jul 19 19:43:54 flash systemd[1]: Starting Load Kernel Modules...
Jul 19 19:43:54 flash systemd-modules-load[833]: Failed to insert 'bbswitch': No such device
Jul 19 19:43:54 flash systemd[1]: systemd-modules-load.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FA
ILURE
Jul 19 19:43:54 flash systemd[1]: Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.
Jul 19 19:43:54 flash systemd[1]: systemd-modules-load.service: Unit entered failed state.
Jul 19 19:43:54 flash systemd[1]: systemd-modules-load.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

From this, I looked into bbswitch, determined that it's part of bumblebee, which is apparently used to support rendering on laptops with Optimus chipsets and embedded NVidia GPUs. As far as I understand, I don't need bumblebee support on this system.

So what's the safest way to resolve this problem? Blacklist bumblebee? Remove the bumblebee/bbswitch packages?

Thanks.

TUMBLEWEED How to disable menu in titlebar

Hi all! Some time ago I enabled the "menu in titlebar" functionality of KDE.
Now after some time I find it doesn't suit me, so I'd like to disable it. However, I don't find how to do it!

I have read, in various forums, that I have to go into System Settings => Application Style => Widget Style => Fine Tuning, and I should find there the option to disable it.
I saw some screenshots too, so I know the option should be there, but I do not have it!! :O

Here is the screenshot of my System Settings:

Can someone help me understand what I'm doing wrong?
Thank you in advance!
Cris

Hello all,
I'm a newbie and was trying to get my tensorflow library working in python...
During this i tried installing the nvidia graphics drivers and after a reboot the booting process just stuck at:

[OK] Started locale Service.

All the other things are OK until here except for the NFS server which earlier was also the same.
Need help as its important for me to start it up.

Thank you.
