TUMBLEWEED zyyper dup is not installing updates

$

After i learn in this forum the proper way to keep Tumbleweed up to date, i run zypper dup on a regular basis,i was reading in another thread that snapshot 20180720 change file was empty so i decided to check if my packages are synchronized with http://download.opensuse.org, they are not...
Example: in 20180722 snapshat these packages are being updated:

Packages changed:
bubblewrap (0.2.1 -> 0.3.0)
libva (2.1.0 -> 2.2.0)
libva-gl (2.1.0 -> 2.2.0)
qqc2-desktop-style (5.47.0 -> 5.48.0)
xf86-input-mouse (1.9.2 -> 1.9.3)
xf86-video-r128 (6.10.2 -> 6.11.0)

i check what version do i have:

Información para paquete xf86-input-mouse:
------------------------------------------
Repositorio : openSUSE-Tumbleweed-Oss
Nombre : xf86-input-mouse

Instalado : Si (automáticamente)
Estado : actualizado
Paquete de fuentes : xf86-input-mouse-1.9.2-2.2.src

I have 1.9.2-2.2,if i run zypper dup:

→ sudo zypper dup

it says there is nothing to do and no error messages either.

TUMBLEWEED Extremely slow boot with encrypted root

I installed Tumbleweed on an encrypted ext4 root and recently it started booting very slowly.
The only two leads I have is a UEFI upgrade in the meantime and a zypper dup. The system used to boot very quickly (as you'd expect from being installed on NVMe) for the first few times after installing. Windows 10 on the same machine on a SATA SSD boots quickly.

Screenshot of boot messages (can I access this log after boot as well from within the system?):

My Nisuta Laser handheld barcode scanner does not work anymore with leap 15 were in leap 42.2 and opensuse 13.2 it works right.
The read text it not outputed...
1 time of maybe 20 times the output appears.
Can it be a timing problem ot the driver?
What I see is that on leap 15 it use xhci_hcd were on leap 42.2 is use ehci-pci.

TUMBLEWEED Display manager (login screen) issues

$

This is mostly commenting on what I have recently noticed.

1: Using "lightdm"

For various reasons, I switched to "lightdm". That worked fine, and I logged into Plasma. But, shortly after login, I was prompted for the password for "kdewallet". This was a surprise. I am using "kwallet-pam" and it is supposed to automatically open "kdewallet". Apparently that does not work when using "lightdm". I will probably report this as a bug, but I'll wait a day to see if there are any comments here.

I normally use "gdm" or "sddm", and those work fine with "kwallet-pam". For testing, I also tried "xdm" and "kdm". And both of those also are fine with "kwallet-pam". Only "lightdm" is giving problems.

2: Console

When I run
Code:

update-alternatives --config default-displaymanager
to change the display manager, there is an option for "Console". And I had no idea what that was supposed to do. So, while experimenting, I decided to give it a try. This was with Tumbleweed in a VM.

After switching, I rebooted. And it never finished booting. The messages showed a failure to start displaymanager, and a waiting (no-limit). To me, this seems like a bug. Either "Console" should not be an option, or I should at least be able to finish booting if I select that option. Again, I'll wait a day to see if there are any responses, before I decide whether to post a bug report.

NOTE: To recover, I did a forced power-off. And then I rebooted, adding a "3" to the end of the boot command. That got me to a command line boot, where I was able to run "update-alternatives" to revert to using "sddm".

I am about to dump gstreamer and all of its bits down the crapper and just do without.

I have received two updates in the last 18 hours for this thing, and at least one per day since I installed it some fifteen days ago. Is it THAT broken that it requires being bloody re-installed (in essence) every day of the world??

TUMBLEWEED GRUB's resume equation refers to a non-existent partition, which adds 90 secs to boot time

Hi,

My UEFI system has GRUB on Tumbleweed set up as the primary bootloader. For some reason for my Tumbleweed bootloader entry (i.e. the one, that if selected in GRUB, will boot Tumbleweed) on the right-hand side of the resume= equation there's the UUID of a file system that doesn't exist. As a result of this a device service (wherein it attempts to mount the file system mentioned in the resume equation) is started by systemd that times out after 1 & 1/2 minutes (or 90 seconds). If you're wondering if I've re-formatted a file system since the entry was made and that's the reason, well I just re-ran
Code:

grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
and the grub.cfg file still refers to this non-existent file system. Here's my grub.cfg: https://gist.github.com/6aa0c3fcc81c...68be9d7d0ab606. Here's the output of ls -ld /dev/disk/by-uuid/*:

Code:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/18dcb84f-49c1-4eeb-90fa-37b86ef97e79 -> ../../sda11 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/201eacc5-8f08-4a59-8829-3c4792470ad3 -> ../../sda6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/2fa289f7-79f3-43be-9793-b7602198e5be -> ../../sdb1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/4F57-FE22 -> ../../sda1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/668611a1-7d16-4872-afc8-faa393f9283c -> ../../sda2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/6d48f49e-2c17-423c-a0dd-61204eed91cb -> ../../sda10 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/73b90f7d-6e62-4830-a0be-33e03f6fa3ae -> ../../sda13 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/763a246e-0dbf-44e5-88d6-17043ff04a13 -> ../../sda8 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/9394efce-720e-41ee-8fae-39ba00758730 -> ../../sda9 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/a368b435-545f-4e54-a5ec-e2d4eaca7542 -> ../../sda3 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/d40c33fe-d462-40df-9cca-e9f10d841013 -> ../../dm-0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/d812f12e-615d-4520-b8d7-5ffd484fdd9a -> ../../sda7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/e9d16603-27f2-4efa-a53a-00d2944cfec2 -> ../../sda4 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Jul 25 18:52 /dev/disk/by-uuid/f5b2ec55-c66c-4847-94d8-2a430bd13ce7 -> ../../sda12
/dev/sda8 is my Tumbleweed partition and the non-existent partition in the resume line, in case I have to name it is /dev/disk/by-uuid/02d3b8dd-d584-491f-8c09-8b8444419e72.

TUMBLEWEED Completely disable akonadi

I'm using Plasma Desktop, but for my needs I prefer to use Evolution instead of Kontact as a PIM solution.

I'm trying to find out how to completely prevent akonadi to start at boot; as far as I can understand, it is started by any application that rely on it, but I'm unable to exactly pinpoint by what application/service/widget/setting it is activated.

Like I said, I switched from Kontact to Evolution, I'm not using the default digital clock widget ("Event Calendar" plasmoid in its place, that AFAIK connects directly to Google Calendar), and I have disable the Krunner extensions that seemed to use it as well.

Do you have any other suggestion? Is there some log where I can possibly find out this kind of information (what has started akonadi)?

TUMBLEWEED Partitions for SDD + HDD and VM on the side

$

hi, folks. I'm doing an experiment in a few weeks, the relevant hardware and intended function I've got is this:
- SSD1 250 Gb - for tumbleweed
- HDD1 2Tb - for tumbleweed
- SSd2 240 Gb - for windows (VM)
- HDD2 1 Tb - also for windows (same VM)

for a long time, I just install with KISS partitions: \ in the hardrive + swap along with it. I've read a few posts around, mostly centered on ubuntu, and I know the different distros don't always handle all the system directories in the same way - the questions:

1. so what else should go inside the HDD besides the \home partition?
2. Is there a consensus now on the size of the swap file for systems with 16+Gb of RAM? and where should it go (SSD or HDD)?
3. I should refrain from mounting (not speaking of formatting) the windows disks if I intend to use them for a virtual machine, right?

thanks in advance

LEAP 15 Need To Create An Automatic Suspend Feature In openSUSE

Hello All,
I am using Leap 15 as my daily driver and everything is working great. I need help or guidance in order to enable a more customizable suspend policy. My suspend/sleep policy is set for 5 minutes, which means that when I walk away from my computer it will automatically suspend itself in 5 minutes. I really need my computer to enter into a sleep state automatically, that is prerequisite for all of my computing tasks.

What I want though is for my computer not go to sleep if I am playing a song through VLC or watching a YouTube video on Firefox. If I am listening to an album, I want the whole album to play without the computer suspending its activities. Also, if I am watching a video on YouTube I want the video to be able to finish before the computer goes to sleep.

I want this auto sleep/suspend policy to be work automatically does it does in Windows, I do not want to go through different screens to change the shut down time everytime that I am playing media. For example I might listen to a 20 minute set of songs or a 3 hour set of songs, but I want the computer to play the whole set then go to sleep. Windows does this automatically, is there any way to set this up in openSUSE?

Thanks in advance.

Whenever dragging windows around, there are very obvious trails that follow, which overall gives it a very non-smooth feeling. I have the relevant NVIDIA drivers installed from the repository:

Code:

nvidia-computeG04, nvidia-gfxG04-kmp-default, nvidia-glG04,x11-video-nvidiaG04
as specified from the SDB. Not sure what could be the actual cause of this, though, as otherwise everything else graphically is fine.

LEAP 15 kmail - email message not always deleted after upgrade to leap 15

$

I recently upgraded from a good working openSUSE 42.2 with a good working kmail to openSUSE Leap 15 with kmail 18.04.3

In this version / instance, emails are not always removed.

At the moment I received an email that I want to remove from my inbox, for this I use the 'delete' button (as I always did/do).
The previous email in my inbox is now marked active, but the email is not removed is still present....

Moving to another folder and then back, and delete again does not help.

When I restart kmail (actually kontact), the message is no longer present (moved to trash).

Any idea what is causing this behavior and how it can be improved (to an expected behavior)?

LEAP 15 kmail - total column is huge and can't be made smaller

I recently upgraded from a good working openSUSE 42.2 with a good working kmail to openSUSE Leap 15 with kmail 18.04.3,
however it don't know know this issue was present in that version or not, I just noted it today.

The Total column in kmail is just huge. I'm referring to the folder list, that is often located at the left side of kmail, just under favorite box:

In my case I've the following columns:
Code:

Name  | Unread | Total                                                                                  |
------------------------------------------------------------------------~~~-------------------------------
inbox  |      2 |                                                                                    100
outbox |        |                                                                                    1000

Etcetera

When trying to make the total column smaller it is just not possible :(
The total column can be moved, for example drag it left from the unread column, but then the unread column is no longer visible as well, and the total column can't still be made smaller. The total column can be hidden as well, that's working.

Does anybody encounter this too? Looks like a bug....

LEAP 15 powersave acts like performance governor

my laptop is warm, even though there is hardly any cpu usage. Other distros reduce the clock speed in those situations, but `cat /proc/cpuinfo` always prints 1796.054MHz on suse. I left my freshly restarted pc for 1h - top showed no entry >1%cpu, but still no clock speed reduction.

I would expect my cpu to clock down to 800MHz as long as there is no load. Why doesn't the powersave-governor do dynamic power saving? Even the wiki says, there is no UI for CPU settings, because there is dynamic powersaving per default: https://en.opensuse.org/Powersaving

LEAP 15 akonadi - old files in .local/share/akonadi/file_db_data?

Just wondering, about the following. After migrating to openSUSE leap 15, I encountered some difficulties with kmail / akonadi.

Hence, I started to look around and found the following:

~/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data> find -type f | wc -l
9056

There are a lot of files in this directory. Are these all needed?

Diving a bit deeper:
~/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data> ls -l $( find -type f ) | grep " 201[1234567] " | wc -l

The first ones are from 2015.

On the other hand, since I migrated to openSUSE Leap 15 and thus to a newer akonadi; instead of files directories seem to be created:

Code:

-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 users    61011 11 jul 18:33 661229_r0
-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 users    5192 11 jul 22:22 661256_r0
-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 users    99838 11 jul 22:22 661258_r0
-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 users    5615 15 jul 08:03 661424_r0
-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 users    21969 15 jul 10:49 661437_r0
--- migrated somewhere here ---
drwxr-xr-x 2 user1 users    4096 22 jul 11:35 31
drwxr-xr-x 2 user1 users    4096 22 jul 11:35 26
drwxr-xr-x 2 user1 users    4096 22 jul 11:35 16

The files in the directory
~/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data (not the (new) sub directories) consume 500MB of disk space. Quite a lot, especially when they are not used.

So now what? Are these (old) files necessary, can that be determined, is there tool or script that can be used to investigate this?

Related to this, the same question for:
Code:

~/.local/share/akonadi/db_data> ls -ltr | sed 's/richard/user1/'
Code:

-rw-rw---- 1 user1 users  91147733 10 dec  2009 mysql.slow

-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 users  19417071 25 jul 13:25 mysql.err.old

Are the files from 2015 and 2010 and 2009 necessary???

Yet another directory with the same issue:
Code:

~/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/akonadi> ls -ltr | sed 's/richard/user1/'

Hello friends.
There are many using slackware with KDE, I decided to use openSUSE Leap 15 with plasma for ease of management.
But I am facing some problems, since I use all day to work.
1 - kwin_x11 is always on top of CPU usage and memory, how to solve it?
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Mmk...b-iUiD8Ls/view

2 - After boot, when loading the graphical environment in the LEAP logo takes more than 5 minutes to enter the Desktop.
3 - During use, when a notification appears in the bar, the machine freezes for a few seconds or minutes.
4 - In this same symptom, when returning the mouse does not click, but moves and changes the type normally, only the click does not work.

Thank you in advance for your attention.

LEAP 15 Boot screen errors, can anyone explain me those?

Hello, I'm kinda fresh on linux, but managed to a phase where my dear opensuse finally works.
One thing I cannot find/solve is those error issues on boot screen, that seams not to do any BIG harm.
System works well, time to time stuck and need to be restarted manually. So, I guess my linux need some hardware specific libraries or something.

P.S. I don't do full system update, cause when i tried to update everything to new version, dear Suse didn't start, and I had to rollback to earlier snap..
So, I just do updates on stuff I really need, and let those stuff to be NOT updated that makes my system run.

Maybe You guys, knew what are those issues and could you lead me to some direct solving techniques?

Some information bellow:

System: OpenSuse Leap 15.0

cat /proc/version
Linux version 4.17.4-1-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 8.1.1 20180614 [gcc-8-branch revision 261584] (SUSE Linux)) #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jul 3 11:31:47 UTC 2018 (882c99b)

If any other info is required, I will provide on demand.

Thank you in advance :)

Oh yeah, and my computer is: Dell Inspiron 17 5767 i3-6006U
