TUMBLEWEED radeon 7870 gpu clocks on open source drivers

$

I may have asked this before but I don't remember. The open source drivers work great for me which is very good because my card has not been supported by Amd for a long time. That means I can stick with my present machine indefinitely down the road.

The only real problem I have is that I need the proprietary drivers to adjust my clocks. The reason I want to do that is because Asus modified the defaults and I like to return them to the Amd reference. I think it runs better that way,

So...What I would like is an alternative that works with the open source drivers provided with tumbleweed, most preferably something I could set to adjust the core and memory clocks to settings that I specify upon boot or login.

Anybody know this program? Gui would be nice but not absolutely necessary by any means.

LEAP 15 Leap 15 Alpha/Beta: Error: Installation system does not match your boot medium

Hi,
i downloaded on 10. Feb. openSUSE-Leap-15.1-NET-x86_64-Build406.2-Media.iso, wrote it to a USB stick using imagewriter ( open an openSuse box).
I used this stick to successfully install an Intel NUC box.

On Friday 14. Feb. I wanted to install another Intel NUC and it failed. The graphical Installer was not showing up anymore, but a strange error message:
Installation system does not match your boot medium.

The message box also gives the option to download something; But that did not help at all.

Sorry to say that, but IMHO that message is not really helpful to a not so experienced user.

Today I finally found out what it really means. The USB Stick contains Leap 15.1 Alpha, and the on the fly downloaded Installation system was already Leap 15.1 Beta.

I fixed the issue, by downloading a fresh NET .iso image and re-writing the USB-Stick.

Plz improve that error message. Give a better explanation.
The Option to download ... did not work (for me). Is it useful to have that option ?

LEAP 15 Leap vs Tumbleweed installs

Hi,

i just downloaded the latest Leap version and a Tumbleweed version dated 02/14. I haven't updated my laptop for about 2 years. I first installed Leap. It pretty much went fine, and everything seemed to be about the same with installation and working as before. Specifically, Yast gave me access to all the programs and repositories, much the same as before.

However. I then replaced this install with Tumbleweed. Yast only gives me access to Filesystem Snapshots and System Log files. No full access to programs and repositories.

Is this somehow how it's supposed to be? All the Tumbleweed files are downloaded once with the install, and if you want any upgrade, you need to install a later version of Tumbleweed? But with the Leap version you get continual updates via Yast? I don't know if it's just me, and the way I've been used to. But I feel more comfortable with the Leap version, getting continual updates with Yast, until a newer Leap version is released.

Is there any way to retrofit the Tumbleweed on my Laptop with the latest Leap version? Or does it require a completely new install of Leap over the Tumbleweed version?

Thank you.

LEAP 15 OpenSuse auf HP 250 G6 installieren

Hi,

LEAP 15 how to install ncview

Hi,

I need to use neview but I can't find the ncview's repository for leap15. I only fund the ones for tumbleweed and leap42. They are not compatible. Since leap15 has libnetcdf13 and tumbleweed and leap42 have the older ones..
What can I do? It worked before, it didn't work anymore after I reinstall leap15.

LEAP 15 Tor Browser won't launch

Hey guys, I recently installed Tor. It had worked fine the other day after install, I went to open it today but it just won't launch. It pops up briefly in the taskbar but nothing happens and it goes away.

I tried reinstall, restarting computer and reinstall...no dice.

Any ideas? Maybe something I might have changes in a network setting is preventing it from opening or something?

LEAP 15 Different kind of dual-boot & partitioning a 1TB drive

$

Hello everybody,

before posting these questions i looked at different closely related threads but everyone seems to be a pro in here. i couldn't understand what you guys/girls were talking about. i basically have 2 questions. the first is more or less a hypothetical (maybe non applicable) question on which you are welcome to share your opinions and/or experiences with. the second might seem odd... well here they are:

first things first: my new pc which i'm going to install linux (and win10)

Motherboard: MSI-B450 Tomahawk (UEFI)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600x
RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) Gskill Ripjaws V
SDD: Samsung Evo 970 500GB M.2 (for win10)
HDD: WD 1TB (for opensuse)

1. tefore i had a few attempts in installing opensuse alongside windows with GRUB. but the problems i incountered with windows which lead to a reinstall and then problem with GRUB discouraged me to use opensuse as a second OS.

What if: i first install opensuse leap 15 on the 1TB HDD (M2 SDD not installed yet), then install win 10 on the m.2 SDD (with 1TB HDD unmounted)... finally connecting both SDD and HDD to the motherboard but booting from BIOS instead from GRUB (to avoid boot problems after say: reinstalling windows)? do you think this is possible? and even makes sense?

2. there are a lot of recommended partitioning schemes out there but none of them made sense to me (too much insider talk and know how). i plan to seriously use and switch to opensuse even if my other family members keep using windows. i need to install opensuse and intel fortran compiler for my academic work as soon as possible. but i don't want to make a random/unplanned installation. i would like to have solid opensuse setup with proper partitioning so -in case linux crashes or becomes corrupt (or even after an upgrade to say leap 16?) that i can keep my personal data and software still running even after a fresh reinstall/update of the OS.

in this case: what would be a smart partitioning of a 1 TB HDD drive exclusively for opensuse?

thank you for your patience & help :)

[LEAP 15][mariadb 10.2.9] What happened with 10.3.6 ?

$

Greetings !!

I just wanted to warn programmers using libmariadb-devel that the update to 3.0.9 causes issues with code source using the same way to process requests since 4 years at least.
Downgrading to 3.0.7 resolves the issues.

http://paste.opensuse.org/89178729

In the upper side test with 3.0.9, it generates an error 1064... with no error message...
In the lower side, after downgrade to 3.0.7, it worked as it always worked...

The code is:

Code:

if (mysql_query(connexion, "SELECT Nom,CodePostal FROM CodesPostaux,Localités WHERE idCodePostal=Ref_CodesPostaux ORDER BY CodePostal"))
  {
    wprintf(L"Erreur lors de l'exécution d'une requête SQL: %s !!\n",mysql_error(connexion));
    exit(1);
  }

Any clues to help us follow the upgrades without having to go back to each source code to fix this kind of issue ?

lensfun-0.3.95 is still an alpha, however it is the first version that contains correction data for the two Fuji lenses I use primarily, so I'd like to try it. Has anyone packaged this version for use with Leap 15?

error linking with libHYPRE

Hi All

When trying to link using libHYPRE, I get the following "undefined reference" errors

mpic++ ff.c -lHYPRE -lmpi_cxx -lsuperlu -lopenblas
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/7/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld: /usr/lib64/mpi/gcc/openmpi/lib64/libHYPRE.so: undefined reference to `hypre_blas_xerbla'
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/7/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld: /usr/lib64/mpi/gcc/openmpi/lib64/libHYPRE.so: undefined reference to `hypre_blas_lsame'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

, where ff.c is a simple dummy file with just main().

Those reference seems to be something that should have been defined internally.

The same error occur if using serial version libHYPRE.

Eventually I'm trying to build elmerfem.

Any help is appriciated.

TUMBLEWEED PyQt5 and QtWebEngine 5.12

$

Hi,
with the recent update of Qt to 5.12 for some reason qutebrowser is not working anymore.
If I try to run it I get this error:
Code:

cannot import name "QtWebEngineWidgets" from "PyQt5" (/usr/lib64/python3.7/site-packages/PyQt5/init.py)
I am using this live version https://build.opensuse.org/package/s...46/qutebrowser.

If I try to simply import PyQt5:
Code:

$ python -c "import PyQt5; print(dir(PyQt5))"
['__builtins__', '__cached__', '__doc__', '__file__', '__loader__', '__name__', '__package__', '__path__', '__spec__']

seems that PyQt5 is not installed properly.

I tried to reinstall:
Code:

# zypper install -f python3-qt5 libqt5-webengine

But nothing.
Any ideas?

Thanks

LEAP 15 App menus on task panel of second monitor

Opensuse Leap 15.0

Hello there,

When I open any application the app main menu bar goes to the bottom panel of the second monitor!. Even if it went to the bottom panel of the first monitor, it would be a very undesirable effect, now imagine having to go to the second monitor to have access to the app main menu. I have tried to fix this, but the only approach I came up with is to add a menu icon (application window upper left) through which I can have access to the application menu.

So what I want is to remove the application menu from the bottom panel and put it back to where it should be: on top of the application window itself. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

juvenal

Hi,
System: OpenSUSE Tumbleweed 20190215

I use commands in KDE Connect like Shutdown, Lock Screen, Unlock Screen and it works on Leap 15 and Tumbleweed.
Volume Down, Volume Up and Mute works only on Leap 15.
Should I use another commands for volume control in Tumbleweed?

I use commands from https://userbase.kde.org/KDE_Connect...seful_commands

LEAP 15 Add a compatible repository with mssq-clil on opensuse 15 leap

Hello everyone

I need to access to a remote sql server, to do this I need to install the package mssql-cli. The problem is int's not in default repositories. I tried to add some of the microsoft repos to get the package but I couldn't find it either.

So far I have added the following repositories https://packages.microsoft.com/opensuse/15/prod/
With this one I was able to get a lot of Microsoft products but not the one I need rotfl!.

I also ried to add some sles repos

https://packages.microsoft.com/sles/15/prod/

That doesn't work either.

Do somebody have this issue before? Is there some repo compatible with my distro I can use?
Is there some alternative mssql client I can use to connect to the mssql server?

LEAP 15 Boot from command line suse rescue console

I have suse leap 15 with root placed in btrfs partition, after I was installed webcamoid packet, my system is damaged (perhaps it related with my special nvidia driver). I try to delete some last snapshot and rollback to previous state of my system, but result is unsuccessful (because snapper has lost correct root point it was lost a functionality), and now my system not loading.
Now after booting my system halted only in grub2 menu. Suse rescue disk gui also wrote 'no linux system'.
But if I look to mounted my damaged btrfs partition, I see in /@/boot folder a number of files like - vmlinuz-xxxxxx, vmlinux-xxxxxx, initdr-xxxxxx, system.map-xxxxxx, system-conf-xxxxxx, symtypes-xxxxxx, symvers-xxxxxx, sysctl.conf-xxxxxx, config-xxxxxx and other. Therefore my first questions - what command I can use in suse rescue console to load my system from this existing image?
And second question - I have full DD-copy of my harddisk in ftp-server, what command I can use in suse rescue console to restore my harddisk from ftp-server?
This is different copy of my system, first may be damaged after intallation webcamoid, however in ftp-server I have not so actual, but fully correct DD-copy of my system.
Thanks, Viacheslav

LEAP 42.3 Sound Volume Very ow Except For in Citrix

I am running OpenSUSE Leap 42.3 on a Lenovo ThinkPad T570. The sound volume through the speakers is very low even when I have it set to 120%. Except for apps in Citrix then the sound is loud.

Very strange. I have tried to set the levels higher in alsa and pulse. I also have tried a Bluetooth headset and plug in headphones.

Nothing seems to work. Sounds coming from Citrix apps are actually quite loud.

Any advice appreciated.

LEAP 15 "Mode not supported" message

So... i tried to install opnsuse leap 15 on a new pc (and new hdd). i booted from the optical drive (opensuse dvd), chose the option "install". it said the kernel is loading, then a screen with the green loader at the bottom shows up. after this loader screen there came a short screen with some text on it and.... the screen went black! the monitor displaying "message: mode not supported H:95.5 KHZ V:60.1 HZ". i restarted the install process over and over again with the same result.

system:
Motherboard: MSI- B450 TOMAHAWK (UEFI)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X
RAM: 16 GB DDR4
HDD: WD-Blue 1TB

i wonder if this has something to do with the graphics card, which i transfererd from the old pc. nVidia GeForce GT 630. But then again, it worked until that part of the installation.

any ideas?

found a similar image of the message displayed.. looks something like this https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...kX1CIxoMsN7bA_
