LEAP 42.3 Sound application slider does not stay with the cursor

$

I usually use Cinnamon. In this case, it's GeckLinux Cinnamon Leap, but the Sound application comes from openSUSE, which gets it from pulseaudio, I believe. In case it matters, the processor is Intel Ivy Bridge (3rd Generation Core) in an HP laptop.

When I use Sound on Linux Mint Cinnamon, the cursor stays on top of the slider when moving from side-to-side. However, when using GeckoLinux Cinnamon, the slider falls behind the cursor, in other words, the further the cursor is dragged to the side, the more daylight is seen between the two. Please fix this bug.

LEAP 15 Audio Input From Pinnacle USBTV NTSC Not Working

Leap 15.0
Have PCI sound card that is working.

Recording video with Pinnacle USBTV. I would like to also use the audio input in this usb device so I can have 2 audio inputs and swap between them in OBS Studio.

The usbtv device is loaded and using snd_usb_audio.
It shows up under /snd/by-id/usb-Pinnacle_Systems_GmbH_PCTV_USB2_NTSC-01
I also have it in the mixer from the sound icon in the tray and can see it in OBS studio.

No sound input comes in through this input. As far as I can tell it's up, not muted, and should be working.

Here is the output of (/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh)
http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=ed6bb6...76bf4ff3e02360

Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks for the help.

LEAP 15 Visual artefacts in a KDE popup boxes and KDE menu with a Mesa 18.3.4 + ATI Park (Cedar (RV 810))

I have a visual artefacts in a KDE popup boxes and KDE menu with a Mesa 18.3.4 + ATI Park (Cedar (RV 810)):

openSUSE 15.0.
Changing visual renderer in a KDE Settings from OpenGL 2.0 to OpenGL 3.1 wasn't help.
Previously Mesa (18.0.2 - 18.1 - 18.2 - maybe 18.3.1) works well.
I am using Mesa repository as system: https://download.opensuse.org/reposi...p_15.0/x86_64/.

Additional info: it seems to me that Mesa 19.0 will be delayed due to requirements of LLVM:
Quote:

[ 50s] llvm-config found: NO found '6.0.1' but need '>= 7.0.0'
It is better not to update to Mesa 19.0 with a openSUSE 15.0 right now because some files have previous version (18.3.4).

LEAP 15 Move root partition to LVM, encrypt all volumes

$

Hi all,

I've a VPS, Leap 15.0, with root partition as a "plain" partition. All other mount points like /var, /srv, /home, /tmo as LVM logical volumes.

Would like to change it to get all partitions encrypted, preferable with a single pass phrase to be asked at boot time, not pass phrases for each logical volume / encrypted file system

I'm of course aware that LUKS/dmcrypt can only encrypt empty partitions, but I've enough space left on my VPS to create additional logical volumes and move the existing data to the newly created encrypted logical volumes. From new Leap installations I know, that it's possible to start with a complete encrypted setup, but do we have any "recipes" how to get this afterwards, avoiding a complete new installation?

Not sure but I guess that for this it would be easier if the rooot partition would also be on a logical volume. Clear to me, that this could only be established when VPS is started with a rescue system, with all partitions / logical volumes are available, but not mounted. Question: If I move the root parition into a logical volume via the rescue system, what do I have to change to inform GRUB about these changes for the next boot?

LEAP 15 Is it possible to upgrade from 32 bit Tumbleweed to 64 bit LEAP 15.1?

I've got an old laptop that originally had a 32 bit processor, and some time after I installed Tumbleweed I bought a 64 bit processor. Is it possible to upgrade to LEAP 15.1, or should I blow away tumbleweed and do a clean install of LEAP 15.1? If the latter, what files do I need to retain from /root?

Hi all,

When VM is come back from suspend state then docker0 interface has no IPv4 address anymore.
Before suspend VM:

Resumed suspend:

I disabled IPv6 because I do not need it at all. With IPv6 the situation is the same. There is no IPv4 address after it came up from resumed mode. With Leap 42.3 this suspend/resume VM works fine.

LEAP 15 gpg problem when using accented characters

$

Hi,

I had a LEAP 42.3 distro and made a smooth upgrade to LEAP 15.0 using the online method. That is making a simple update of the repo's and zypper dup the thing as explained in the documentation and not a clean install as I used to do for a long long time.
All went well until I tried to decrypt some gpg files I had on my pc since maybe version 12 something of OpenSuSE. Inever had a problem in OpenSuSE decrypting those files.
The files were encrypted with the symmetric method, no keys needed.

There are Multiple problems I was detecting while trying to debug this very serious problem.
I will report some but those are not the subject of this thread.

-- First choosing in yast language and Portuguese does not work.

since when I log into a bash session and make:

Code:

bash$ locale -a
shows the option pt_PT.utf8

but on the cli/bash the command locale shows that there is no such pt_PT.utf8, but rather pt_PT.UTF-8 ... this is a potential bug for the distro.
and the error
setlocale: LC_TYPE: cannot change change Locale (en_US.UTF-8, pt_PT.UTF-8) no such file
shows up every time I log either in X mode on in the terminal text mode (ctrl+alt+F1).

For me there is no problem since my keyboard layout is correct, Portuguese, and I never had problems using en_US.UTF-8 as the cahr set anyway. I just found the problem.

Second:

I noticed that everytime I log there is error on LC_CTYPE locale line since the default locale shows that :

Code:

LC_CTYPE = en_US.UTF-8, LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
that line is a bug for sure!

So I had to place in my ~/.profile the change on environment variables so I added the line:

Code:

export LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8"
and now the correct locale shows up like:
Code:

 :~> locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8

The problem:
But the reason that brought me here was other.
I use accented characters on my passphrase. Always did. As well as some altgr characters and also of course shift+altgr and shift+accented characters.
That is, to expand a _LOT_ the amount of characters space on symmetric gpg encrypted files.
Since if one only uses ascii words the amount of chars on that space is very limited.
(upper case, lower case, symbols on the keyboard).
I always add a lot of UTF-8 characters:
Namely using the altgr, altgr, and specially Composed characters. Meaning symbol+chars, symbol +shift+characters.
This increases very very much the amount of chars available and makes the passpharse way stronger the simply using ascii characters.

The problem is I upgraded from LEAP 42.3 to 15.0 and now none of my gpg encrypted files opens :(
The result is always the dreadful bad session key ... meaning ..wrong passphrase.

This happened to me a LOT when moving such files and trying to open between different distros and computers since of course compose characters and altgr support varies once we change keyboard layout and specially Locale settings.
the strange thing is that I think this is solelly a problem of pinentry since I can see the characters I use when typing on the bash prompt.
I even used cli password entry did not work:
gpg -d --batch --passphrase 'password' encrypted_file

using a new file encrypted without algr and/or composed chars worked fine as expected with both pinentry and cli entry mode.

I also made a test that is using pinentry-curses.
Simply place a :

Code:

pinentry-program /usr/bin/pinentry-curses
on the file ~/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf
and the ncurses version shows up with a strange behavior:

Every time I type a altgr or accented char the cursor moves two asteriscs on that prompt. As if pinentry does not even recognize or uses the system locale and does not understand a accented/altgr character!
(same for the other with shift+altg and shift+symbol+char).
Can anyone know what is going on with this strange behavior?
And don't feel rushed to help guys :) I'm certain that my electricity provider company at the end of this month is going to fully understand when I call the late payment department saying:
"... I have my bank access codes inside a symmetric encrypted file with gpg, but there's an issue with Character set encoding with gpg-agent or pinentry not fully acquiring environment variables to correctly translate keyboard strings of unicode UTF-8 input characters ... I wonder if you guys don't have a decryption department with multiple peta/exa-hash brute force capability since at least you guys have the electricity to run that thing ... "
I'm truly sure they'll be delighted to hear that.

Regards.

LEAP 15 Blacklist a package upgrade to save 1.3GB ?

$

I use the 'xfig' package a lot. I started using it way back in the early 2000's. It requires the 'transfig' package and a few other libraries like libXaw3d, and some XFonts. It used to be simple. Now for some reason, the texlive package has been made a prerequisite for transfig. Try updating dependency transfig on openSuse 15 and you'll see this whopper:

>The following package is going to be upgraded:
> transfig
>
>1 package to upgrade, 2150 new.
>Overall download size: 847.9 MiB. Already cached: 0 B. After the operation, additional 1.3
>GiB will be used.

Really?!? 2150 new packages related to texlive taking 1.3GB? That's just not right. SO- I have reverted to an older version of xfig/transfig that does not have all these texlive dependencies. BUT- the automatic update feature continues to ask me to upgrade transfig, which I don't want to do.

Can I tell the autoupdater to ignore transfig/xfig for now? I am not going to install 1.3GB of texlive that I don't need.

Thanks!

LEAP 15 Dual Monitor Setup Issues with Leap 15

$

I have an HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC with an AMD A8-4500M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics. LSHW shows a Radeon HD 7640G graphics card. I also have an Acer X233H monitor that I would like to use to extend my desktop. If I boot my system in Windows 10, both monitors are recognized and work, and I can arrange them normally, so I am comfortable that I do not have a hardware problem. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get this to work in Opensuse Leap 15.0.

If I plug in the Acer monitor into the VGA connection under Opensuse, my laptop screen goes blank, and the Acer displays what appears to be a normal desktop. If I try to open an application, however, I can see it slide from the task bar off to the left side of the monitor screen where it disappears and cannot be accessed. Because of this, I cannot run diagnostics with both monitors connected.

Without the second monitor, I get the following output from lshw:

linux-anzn:~ # lshw -c video

which seems to show I am using the radeon driver.

I would like to try amdgpu, but have not been able to properly configure my system to use it. I have reviewed a large number of posts on this subject and tried many of them without success.

I’ve tried the following to install amdgpu

linux-anzn:~ # zypper install xf86-video-amdgpu kernel-firmware

so I believe this driver is already installed. I put these items in my Yast Boot Loader Kernel Parameters: amdgpu.si_support=1 radeon.si_support=0 amdgpu.cki_support=1 radeon.cki_support=0. When I reboot, I still show the radeon driver as listed above.

I am hoping someone can guide me through resolving this issue. Thanks in advance.

TUMBLEWEED wireless problem and kernel panic

Since two days, my laptop (Dell Latitude 7390) is unable to connect to my wireless network at home.

Today I upgraded my tumbleweed to version "20190314" (my kernel now is 5.0.1-1-default).

My laptop still does not connect to the wireless network. Moreover, I get a kernel panic (system freeze and flashing capslock key) after a random time (between a few seconds and several minutes after login).

I'm at a loss here -- not sure the two things are even connected -- any ideas what I should be doing / looking for...?

TUMBLEWEED VMWare Workstation Pro 15 module compile errors on the latest update (20190314)

VMware workstation pro will automatically prompt for compiling some of its modules and loading them into the running kernel every time it detects a kernel update. It would run for a short while and everything launches just fine afterwards.

However, today in the morning I did a distribution upgrade which brought up the Kernel to 5.0.1.1 and somehow the VMware module compile now fails compiling the Virtual Machine Monitor and the Virtual Network Device modules.

The failed process points to a rather lengthy log file for further details:

LEAP 15 Sehr langsames WLAN und iwlwifi Fehler

Guten Tag,

- ChrizZly

TUMBLEWEED Increased boot time since 20190314 due to...

$

Since the 20190314 snapshot (which brought in the v5 kernel) I'm seeing a marked increase in boot time due to: "A stop job is running for udev Kernel Device Manager", which is occurring on every boot. The boot carries on before the stop job times out, but is delaying boot by around 20-25 seconds...

This isn't due (I assume) to this "systemd 241 (note: after upgrading from 239, the immediate reboot will be quite slow; this should be a one-off until the system was
booted with 241)" which was mentioned here https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-.../msg00186.html as that should be a one off delay.

If I boot with the previous 4.20.13-1 kernel I don't see the delay.

TUMBLEWEED QMapShack not longer working, Proj4 library incompatible after 20190314 update

$

I did update my Tumbleweed system this morning and after a reboot I tried to start QMapShack, but it refuses to start saying "QMapShack detected a badly installed Proj4 library":

Tried to search for the proj4 package (sudo zypper se proj4) but could not find it, only a perl-Geo-Proj4 package.

Installed that and executed a small test program:

Code:

#!/usr/bin/perl

use Geo::Proj4;

my $proj = Geo::Proj4->new(proj => "merc",
  ellps => "clrk66", lon_0 => -96)
    or die "parameter error: ".Geo::Proj4->error. "\n";

my ($lat, $lon) = $proj->inverse(401717.80, 130013.88);

That runs fine, so it looks like the proj4 library is installed, only QMapShack is missing something that was available before the update.

Had a look in the QMapShack code:
Code:

    projPJ pjsrc = pj_init_plus("+init=epsg:32661");
    if(pjsrc == nullptr)
    {
        QMessageBox::critical(this, tr("Fatal...")
                              ,tr("QMapShack detected a badly installed Proj4 library. The translation tables for EPSG projections usually stored in /usr/share/proj are missing. Please contact the package maintainer of your distribution to fix it.")
                              ,QMessageBox::Close);

Tried
Code:

my $proj = Geo::Proj4->new(init => "epsg:32661") or die "parameter error: ".Geo::Proj4->error. "\n";
But that gives me "parameter error: no arguments in initialization list'

So had a look at the https://proj4.org and saw that version 6.0.0 has been released and "projinfo" reveals I am running that. I read "PROJ 6 has undergone extensive changes" and that is not yet supported by QMapShack:

https://bitbucket.org/maproom/qmapsh...t-for-proj-600

Is there any way to downgrade proj4?
Checking the YaST Software Management I see proj has no non-6.0.0 versions, but I have libproj13 installed than gives 5.2.0-31.6
