LEAP 15.1 Autoyast error

During the "Create partition plans" phase of autoyast, I'm getting the error below. The autoinst.xml I'm using is largely the same as the one I used for 15.0, but I'm now running a Perl pre-install script. Any pointers would be a great help. Thanks!

LEAP 15.0 How to turn off pulseaudio

$

Hi,

I'm using my Opensuse also for producing music. Ardour is my program of choice at the moment. Since it requires jack I use to turn off pulseaudio before.

It always worked pretty well that way. I only executed

sudo setup-pulseaudio --disable

and pulseaudio went to sleep. Then I started jack via QjackCtl and everything was fine.

But after the last Online Update with Yast things are not the same. At first pulse didn't start up at all. I tried a little and finally it worked again after changing the version of the pulseaudio package from 11.1.lp150.4.1-x86_64 (from openSUSE-Leap-15.0-Oss with priority 99 and vendor openSUSE) to 12.2-lp150.11.2-x86_64 (from multimedia:libs with priority 99 and vendor obs://build.opensuse.org/multimedia)

So pulse was working again.

But now I am no more able to turn it off. The above command still gives the same output (at least i guess so. Maybe there used to be a line containing the terms "disabling" and "autospawn", which are not there anymore). But it doesn't have the same effect. Pulse is still on.

pulseaudio --kill seems to give pulse a little pause. But after one second it's back again.

I edited /etc/pulse/client.conf and set "; autospawn = yes" to "autospawn = no" (yes, I also removed the semicolon) but it always spawns back again as soon as I kill it.

What can I do? Please help me.

LEAP 15.1 After Upgrade to 15.1 okular displays postscript as text unless you import it as pdf

Very strange, I upgraded my TeX machine from openSUSE-15.0 to openSUSE-15.1 and now okular displays my postscript files as text files unless I manually tell it to import the file as pdf. I could not find a setting for making this happen automatically, does anyone know how to get the old behavior back? (automatically interpreting the postscript when a postscript file is loaded).

After upgrade from Leap 15 (where KMyMoney works OK in XFCE) to Leap 15.1, the application KMyMoney crashes, and does not load. After many re-loadings of both KMyMoney and reinstalls of LEAP 15.1 XFCE to computer including a fresh install not an upgrade KMyMoney still crashes.
When KDE desktop environment added to fresh install, so choice of XFCE or KDE being possible; then:
a) KDE opens KMyMoney OK.
b) XFCE still crashes.
Bug reported to KDE team, but it may be a XFCE package problem.

LEAP 15.1 Upgrade from 15.0: nvidia driver G05 does not load

$

After upgrade from Leap 15.0 to 15.1 (from DVD + standard 15.1 repositories), the nvidia driver does not load anymore (had no problems with 15.0), even though it is installed and shown as installed by yast. Forced reinstallation of the latest G05 driver through (non-GUI, i. e., console) yast changes nothing. nvidia card is GTX 1050 Ti, so G05 driver should be right.

The rpms are installed:
rpm -q x11-video-nvidiaG05: x11-video-nvidiaG05-430.14-lp151.15.1.x86_64
rpm -q nvidia-computeG05: nvidia-computeG05-430.14-lp151.15.1.x86_64
rpm -q nvidia-gfxG05-kmp-default: nvidia-gfxG05-kmp-default-430.14_k4.12.14_lp151.27-lp150.15.1.x86_64
(rpm --rebuilddb changes nothing.)

nvidia-xconfig says it wrote a new /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.
Subsequent nvidia-settings says: "Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused" and "ERROR: The control display is undefined".
echo $DISPLAY is empty.
lsmod | grep nvidia is empty, no nvidia driver loaded.
modprobe nvidia says: "ERROR: Could not insert 'nvidia': Exec format error"

LEAP 15.1 root authorization for network configuration not working?

$

hi all,

after a fresh install of OpenSUSE Leap 15.1 on a seasoned Lenovo T420, plus installation of pam_kwallet, I'm experiencing a confusing situation.

The initial problem (also before installation of pam_kwallet):
- WLAN not able to connect after reboot (using Network manager)
when trying to edit network settings, a message box pops up like
"system policy prevents modification of network settings for all users"
(translated form German "Die Systemrichtlinien verhindern das Bearbeiten von Netzwerkeinstellungen für alle Benutzer"
=> this box asks for a root password
=> my login password does not work in this context (although it perfectly works with sudo on the command line)

Some more tests on the command line (not checked before installation of pam_kwallet):
- "su -" works with login password
- "sudo -i" does NOT work with login password
(On my primary machine, running tumbleweed, both the "su -" and the "sudo -i" commands work fine)
- or, when using "sudo passwd root", the password dialog does NOT accept the login password
- after "su -", a "passwd" allows me to change the root(?) password,
however situation is still as described above

There is only one user account on the system, and it should/does have sudo privileges.

I'm hoping that someone may have some ideas?

LEAP 15.1 Folder view applications icons problem

$

Hi, there!
I've a leap 15.1 fresh installation with KDE desktop environment.
I added a "folder view" widget to the desktop. And then, I copied some applications (e.g. Firefox) from "Applications Menu" to that folder.
When I click on the Firefox icon on the folder on the desktop, it opens KWrite showing the content of "Firefox.desktop" file instead to run Firefox application.

The content of "Firefox.desktop" file is:
Code:

[Desktop Entry]
Categories=Network;WebBrowser;GTK;
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Firefox
GenericName=Web Browser
Comment=Web Browser
TryExec=firefox
Exec=firefox %u
Icon=firefox
Terminal=false
StartupNotify=true
MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;text/mml;application/x-xpinstall;x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;x-scheme-handler/ftp;
Type=Application

Actions=PrivateBrowsing;

[Desktop Action PrivateBrowsing]
Name=New Private Browsing Window
Exec=firefox --private-window %u

If I link the application, instead of copy, from "Applications Menu" to the folder, I get the same result.

I think I have to change some setting to get the application running by clicking in its icon on folder view, but I can't find it.

Can sombody help me?

Thank you very much.

We were not using Gnome DE because the old WIFI Kernel driver (r8822be) was not as robust compared to KDE. This new Kernel 5.2 driver runs very well on Gnome (20190521 Fresh Install) and so far we are not losing the signal intermittently.

Installing Torbrowser launcher for the first time is an indication of how good-fast is wireless response. Same for adding ublock origin to it and for browsing or even to get dup. On top of that, there is a speed gain of 25% over the latest stable Kernel: 5.1.4-1.1.

Code:

inxi -N
Network:
  Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet
  driver: r8169
  Device-2: Realtek RTL8822BE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi adapter driver: rtw_pci

Code:

sudo modinfo rtwpci | grep depends
[sudo] password for root:
depends:        mac80211,rtw88

Code:

sudo modinfo rtw88 | grep depends
depends:        mac80211,cfg80211

Code:

rpm -qa | grep -i kernel
kernel-default-5.1.4-1.1.x86_64
patterns-devel-base-devel_kernel-20170319-8.2.x86_64
kernel-devel-5.2.rc1-2.1.gb225e5a.noarch
kernel-syms-5.2.rc1-2.1.gb225e5a.x86_64
kernel-source-5.2.rc1-2.1.gb225e5a.noarch
kernel-default-5.2.rc1-2.1.gb225e5a.x86_64
kernel-devel-5.1.4-1.1.noarch
kernel-macros-5.2.rc1-2.1.gb225e5a.noarch
kernel-default-devel-5.2.rc1-2.1.gb225e5a.x86_64
kernel-firmware-20190514-260.1.noarch
kernel-default-devel-5.1.4-1.1.x86_64

The least we can say is that for Gnome it's a real improvement.

Thanks to Realtek Corporation for their contribution on Kernel 5.2. Special thank's to the Kernel team, we appreciate your work and efforts.

LEAP 15.0 Missing entries in UEFI stopping access to BIOS

My Leap 15 Laptop (an ACER V5-571) used to have two inactive entries when I did a list via efibootmgr one for BIOS setup and the other for the F12 option (I think) to allow boot device selection. Somehow these have been removed and now I am unable to use F2 to access the BIOS screens or F12 to select boot device. I know I can use fwsetup from grub2 command line (secure boot is disabled) but I'd like to get the entries back to allow me to use the F keys on power up. Does anyone know how this might be achieved?

LEAP 15.1 Upgrade to Plasma Leap 15.1 and no more root for Dolphin

As far as I know, openSuse had the only Plasma desktop that let its users open Dolphin and Kate as root. After Leap 15.1 install I noticed that I can no longer open a text file or a folder as superuser. Is there any workaround to get back this useful feature?
