This particular package caused a halt problem with the builtin wifi of the Gigabyte X299 AORUS (appeared to be related to IRQ). Sorry, didn't take image of the halt error....detail was longer than screen display....I've had to boot from DVD to rescue to uninstall the package so I could boot again. Previous version 20190618-lp151.2.6.1 was okay.

LEAP 15.1 Networking 101

I am having trouble making an Opensuse Server and a Windows 10 Machine communicate. I have an old server I was using for use as a PC but got frustrated because when I increased Ram it started acting foolish so I bought a prebuilt. A couple weeks ago I decided to dust off the server and put Opensuse on it and use it as a Server mainly for file storage and share right now. I have tried following various online guides to get the two machines to communicate but nothing I have tried has worked at all.

Running Win 10 with latest updates along with a couple distros of Ubuntu on main machine. Latest version of Opensuse on Server. Both are hardwired into Gateway, do not currently have internet service to cut down on some bills so we use the hotspots on our phones

I have never done any home networking because I never needed stuff to communicate in a manner that they needed to share files. Please be gentle and talk to me like a child so I understand what I am doing

Reasons for file sharing. I have a USB 3 add on card in server and all my externals are USB 3 and eventually when I get my radio show and band moving along I will be using the server to handle online music and stuff

Hi I am wondering if anyone else who has added the packman repository seeing signing errors on the packages?

I started to see this the other day Friday, and when I cancelled the update process, I started to have all kinds of system errors.

How does one recover from this and bring their system back to proper working order?

OTHER VERSION Confused trying to find a library to compile

I was trying to install a newer version of Tellico http://tellico-project.org/ ,as it seems the newer version has some annoying bugs gotten rid of. The version is not available on the official OpenSuse repositories yet. I've downloaded the archive, expanded it. Now I want to compile it.
According to the guide https://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Tellico/Compiling I need:
Code:

libpoppler-qt5-dev libtaglib-ocaml-dev libexempi-dev libyaz-dev
to proceed. I wasn't able to find libtaglib-ocaml-dev and I can't find a way to figure out the name of the library which is used in the OpenSuse repositories.
Please help me find this one or teach me how to do the search properly.
I have OpenSuse LEAP 15.0

LEAP 15.1 Random roots traced to zswap

Hi,

There are random reboots with zswap enabled at boot time or post boot.

I am using this kernel option for booting.

Code:

zswap.enabled=1 zswap.max_pool_percent=40 zswap.zpool=zbud zswap.compressor=lzo zswap.same_filled_pages_enabled=0
I use low TDP CPU, low ram (board limitations) hardware. This setup used to work til last month but I reckon a liblzo2 update wrecked this.

SUSE doesn't support lz4 compression and z3fold zpool. What should I do to try lz4 compression with z3fold. lz4 offers more speed and z3fold zpool offers higher compression ratio. I am using this system as a centralized logger & data visualizer where zswap will really make a difference (or it made a huge difference in past with literally no lag or freeze).

Thanks.

TUMBLEWEED Updated - Now Bleachbit is gone...

Hi!

Updated two installs TW and now Bleachbit has been deleted. No Bleachbit in standard repos either. Had to do a search in software.opensuse and found it in "utilities" repo...

Why that? And why does zypper up remove software completely without proper asking (as in changing repos with zypper up)?

OTHER VERSION Partition table entries are not in disk order, do I care???

Hello,

I have an opensuse installation I use fairly often, but I have other OSs on the drive. I have had many different flavours of linux on this system over time and so I have added and removed, resized, etc, partitions a number of times.

I am cleaning up the disk some to add another OS and I moved the swap partition to a different place. I was checking the partitions afterwords with "fdisk -l" and "cat /proc/swaps" and I noticed this message from fdisk.

There are some posts about how to fix this but I am wondering if it matters.

At the moment, the drive looks like,
Code:

Device    Boot    Start      End  Sectors  Size Id Type
/dev/sda1  *        4096 102404095 102400000  48.8G  7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT
/dev/sda2      200710144 500117503 299407360 142.8G  5 Extended
/dev/sda3      118784610 200706047  81921438  39.1G 83 Linux
/dev/sda4      102408192 118779903  16371712  7.8G 82 Linux swap / Solaris

On the drive, sda1 comes first, followed by the swap (sda4), then the opensuse root (sda3), then by an extended partition where the other OS will go. Logically, the extended partition should be sda4 and not sda2 since it comes last of the existing partitions.

Should I take the time to change this or does it not matter?

Thanks,

LMHmedchem

OTHER VERSION created new partition for /home, having trouble moving data

$

Hello,

I have an opensuse 13.2 install that was set up with /home on the root partition. I am using this more now and would like to move home to a new and larger partition. I have created the ext4 partition and now need to move the data from the current home partition.

My plan was to move the data and then use Yast2 to change the mount point of the new partition to /home. I can mount the new partition in dolphin, but if I do that I don't have permission to write to it. I have tried adding my user to the partition with full permissions, but that doesn't do anything. The partition seems to be owned by root. I could probably move everything off of the current home directory to some other location, but is seems as if I should be able to mount a new partition and write to it without too much difficulty.

Any suggestions? Will simply changing the mount point of the new partition to /home make it my new /home location?

Thanks,

LMHmedchem

LEAP 15.1 dracut systemd pre-mount hook failure with mdadm array named (e.g.) any:1403

$

Has anybody succeeded in booting consistently from an mdadm array whose superblock HOMEHOST is not equal to /etc/hostname and whose superblock NAME (in HOMEHOST:NAME) is outside the usual 0-127 range (e. g., md1403 instead of md3)?
If yes, I would like to learn his trick.

In theory (which I should know well enough), it sounds easy, but in practice it looks like a mess. Search on the internet, and you will find lots of fairly advanced users having problems with it.

I use UUIDs everywhere, but dracut seems to care little about mdadm.conf, apparently because users make too many mistakes in it. (I thought this was Windows mentality and the reason why we prefer Linux.)

Trying to build wine-tkg-git

Hi!

I'm trying to compile wine tkg from git (https://github.com/Tk-Glitch/PKGBUIL...r/wine-tkg-git) and I got managed to complete the 64 bit part, now I'm on 32Bit, and seems a little bit more complicated. After a lot of tries, I'm here:

Code:

configure: GTK3 32-bit development files not found, GTK themes won't be supported.
configure: OSS sound system found but too old (OSSv4 needed), OSS won't be supported.

OSS is not important, at 64bit I had this message too. I'm investigating what happens with that gtk3 error, but I can't make it go away. It is important because later it fails because of this, so how can I get to know why this error occurs, or what do I need to install?
I need some clue because I'm lost.
I have installed gtk3-devel-32bit package.

I use
os-prober-1.76-lp151.2.1.x86_64 and
grub2-2.02-lp151.21.9.1.x86_64 on leap 15.1 on the suggested btrfs.
uname -a Linux XXXX 4.12.14-lp151.28.36-default #1 SMP Fri Dec 6 13:50:27 UTC 2019 (8f4a495) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
After updating - grub2 needed about 30 seconds to start initrd!
The cause of it was that os-prober produces no output anymore!
sudo os-prober --> pause 2 seconds --> no output

In /etc/default/grub
I disabled os-prober with
GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER="true"

and booting works like in former times - but it's a workaround!

Does anybody out there with a root - btrfs experiences the same behaviour?

kfd kfd: error getting iommu info. Is the iommu enabled?
kfd kfd: Error initializing iommuv2
kfd kfd: device 1002:15D8 NOT added due errors

Danach stand der Rechner still.

iommu=soft
amd_iommu=off

Ohne Erfolg.

TUMBLEWEED Crashes on Suspend

Hello everyone! I was not sure where to put this thread on the forum, but I feel like it could potentially be classified under a "booting problem." Quick story: I finally made the jump from windows a little over a year ago to using LEAP 15.1 and I have loved absolutely every second of it! I cannot begin to say how much I love openSUSE! In September I purchased a new HP Spectre x360 13" laptop and unfortunately I have spent most of my time with it since then trying to make it work. I decided to go the TUMBLEWEED route with my laptop and have already reinstalled the OS about three times now working on fixing issues. Given enough time, I have been successful with everything I have attempted to fix, except for two issues, one of which follows:

My first install of Tumbleweed was with the gnome desktop, where it worked provisionally well for a while until about a week and a half ago when it developed an issue where on closing the lid of the laptop, it would not suspend the system. The fans would often be running, and the power light would still be on, and no matter how long I waited it would not go to sleep. Upon opening the lid back up, i would be met with a black screen with the backlight still on, and eventually the caps lock key would start blinking. I have looked on the HP forums, and many note that this means the bios is corrupted. I have a dual boot set up, with the openSUSE UEFI partition handling booting for both openSUSE and Windows 10. I booted into windows 10 where it behaved the exact same way- windows would crash or just refuse to suspend the system. I installed an update Windows 10 had downloaded for the HP bios and the windows problem went away. Windows 10 would suspend normally on closing the lid of the laptop. Tumbleweed still would not. Somewhere online I found someone talking about GNOME sometimes hanging on waiting for something, so that combined with a few other issues I was having with GNOME at the time made me curious to install KDE Plasma (which is my preferred DE anyway). Logging out of GNOME, and logging back into KDE made the issue go away! Closing the lid now actually successfully put the machine into a suspended state!

Unfortunately, because of the other issue mentioned in my first paragraph, I decided to reinstall Tumbleweed again with the KDE desktop as default. The other issue I was having was sound related, where KDE would say "No Input or Output Devices found" and even YaST2 would run into a "kernel module could not be loaded" problem when trying to configure my sound card. I add this information to this post just in case it might pertain to the suspend problem. After installing a bunch of updates after the second OS Install, suddenly the audio issue was back. Suspend continued to work, however; until last night when I installed updates via zypper. I close the lid on the machine, and it started doing the all to familiar dance of the fans coming on slightly, the power light not shutting off, and then upon opening the lid- the caps lock began to blink. Hard restarting the machine always brings openSUSE up- it never has any trouble booting from off, only coming back from a suspend state. And the same is true even when selecting "Sleep/Suspend to RAM" from the KDE menu.

Thank you all so much in advance for any help you might be able to provide on the matter! Even if the answer is going back to LEAP I certainly do not mind at this point! If I can get this sorted out, then I will likely make another post under Hardware for the audio related issue with more detail.
