TUMBLEWEED Flowblade 2.6

Hallo,

LEAP 15.1 Error "directory /etc/resolv.conf for resolv-file is missing, cannot poll"

Hello,

I'm getting these errors at boot (journalctl -b message)

"dnsmasq[2621]: directory /etc/resolv.conf for resolv-file is missing, cannot poll"
"dnsmasq[2621]: FAILED to start up"

which then lead to:

libvirtd[2115]: internal error: Child process (VIR_BRIDGE_NAME=virbr1 /usr/sbin/dnsmasq --conf-file=/var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/VirN.conf --leasefile-ro --dhcp-script=/usr/lib64/libvirt/libvi>
dnsmasq: directory /etc/resolv.conf for resolv-file is missing, cannot poll

Could not find any helpful google results.

Thanks.

LEAP 15.2 Today's update gave us Gnome 3.34.2 in Leap 15.2 Alpha

Today's update for 15.2 brought use Gnome 3.34.2. KDE is still at Plasma 5.17.5 (should eventually be Plasma 5.18).

Note that Leap 15.2 is still at the Alpha testing phase. I do not recommend installing it at this stage. I am testing it in a virtual machine. I still run Leap 15.1 on my main desktop.

For those who are testing 15.2, note that the correct update procedure is:
Code:

zypper dup
to be run at a root command line. That's because you should treat it as a rolling release until it has been officially released. After the official release, switch to normal update methods.

Another thing to note: at present purge-kernels is not working properly. So you will accumulate kernels unless you do something manually.

I used
Code:

zypper purge-kernels
to clean up the kernels on 15.2. This is a new "zypper" subcommand (also available in Tumbleweed).

The kernel cleanup should be working properly by the time that Leap 15.2 is officially released.

LEAP 15.1 Corrupt BTRFS, or bad SSD?

Sis brought me brother-in-law's 15.1 to fix, which was originally default 42.2 installation. That means BTRFS, which I've never touched before, much less fixed. I wanted to try to free some space. btrfs filesystem df / and /home indicate somewhere around 70% used each. I want to get rid of old snapshots anyway. Oldest is Nov 2016, newest 3 months ago, oldest 3 #s 0 1 74, newest 3 #s 91 92 93. mount -o remount,ro / doesn't work. GUI won't run due to RO, cannot load some theme.

dmesg says:

I hoped to be able to just install 15.1 fresh, but 15.1 first USB rescue boot wouldn't let me mount BTRFS sda2 to recover files from /home. Neither would any 15.1 USB rescue boot assign an IP to the Realtek 8111/8168/8411NIC. I shutdown and replaced old blue Dell SATA cable with known SATA 3.0/6Gbps cable. blkid output seems normal. sda2 mounted without messages, but chrooted to it 'snapper ls' produces "Failure (dbus fatal exception)."

Now another reboot to SSD gave me RW /:

Attempt to delete 77 fails. So does zypper ref, due to bad media attach point.

Current dmesg.

Now / has returned to RO, so can no longer redirect command output to nfs filesystem.

Is this Kingston 128GB SNV425S just trash? Did a bad(?) SATA cable result in corruption a fresh installation would fix? Is this candidate for rollback? If so, to which snapshot?

OT:
What's it take to make dmesg output use only visible colors? Red on black is not visible without undue magnification.

LEAP 15.1 Best video editor for Linux ?

$

Hi,

Our local school is using OpenSUSE Leap 15.1 KDE on all its desktop clients.

I'm currently looking for a nice video editing solution for the school. Up until recently I've been using Openshot for editing my modest GoPro climbing videos. In the past the application was quite buggy and crash-prone, though with time I've found a few workarounds.

What's your take on video editors for Linux ? I know there's quite a lot of them. Kdenlive, Cinelerra, Flowblade, Shotcut, Pitivi, Olivevideoeditor, etc. Which one can you recommend ? I thought I'd rather ask before trying them all out.

Cheers.

LEAP 15.1 Notebook aus Readonly-Modus befreien

$

OS: openSuse Leap 15.1
KDE

Ich sorge gern für mehr notwendige Daten.
Weiß nicht was gebraucht wird.

Problem: Will ich ein Programm löschen oder installieren, taucht plötzlich eine Meldung auf:

"Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: can't create transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/.rpm.lock (Read-only file system)"

LEAP 15.1 rclone after upgrading from leap15.0 to leap15.1

Just to tell you that I have recently upgraded from leap15.0 to leap15.1 and the process goes very smooth. I only noticed a problem when trying to run rclone the first time, as it says permission denied. I verified that the binary had wrong permissions:

Quote:

-rwxr-xr-- 1 root root 36265184 Jun 13 2019 /usr/bin/rclone
I changed this from root with:

Code:

chmod o+x /usr/bin/rclone
Quote:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 36265184 Jun 13 2019 /usr/bin/rclone
not sure why permission was wrong after the upgrade, but it seems now it is working.
Thanks so much for this new release of leap.

CMake, Boost, and python 2.7 on Tumbleweed

$

Hi,

I've been trying to package a game that uses libboost_python with the CMake build system and I cannot get it to find the proper libboost_python 2.7 library (/usr/lib64/libboost_python.so or /usr/lib64/libboost_python-py2_7.so.1.71.0). The game is here:

https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/games/freeorion

It always fails does one of 3 undesirable things:

  • Doesn't find any library
  • Returns /usr/lib64/libboost_python.so.1.71.0
  • Returns /usr/lib64/libboost_python-py3.so.1.71.0

I've attempted to patch the CMakeLists.txt of the game to just use:
Code:

find_package(Boost COMPONENTS python REQUIRED)
And I've also done a lot with trying to manually set
Code:

Boost_PYTHON_LIBRARY
or use hints like:
Code:

set(Boost_PYTHON_VERSION_TAG "-py2_7")
set(Boost_PYTHON_VERSION "2.7")

Whatever I do, CMake does not find the proper boost python 2.7 library on tumbleweed. I've tried all the python-py27, python27, 2.7, etc. variants with all the options I could find. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

P.S. This game takes a very long time to compile and there are other compile errors that I'm working with upstream to patch.

LEAP 15.1 Driver support HP LaserJet M15w

LEAP 15.1 How can I configure firewall with custom rules?

$
0

In the earlier versions of Leap I used yast firewall to configure custom rules, that allowed me me to add specific ips with ports/ranges and everything worked fine.

In the new version, I see that things have changed, since now firewalld is the default firewall and yast firewall utility does not have all the GUI options for this.

I'm hoping you can help me figure out how to accomplish following:

I have 2 groups of ipv4 that need to access the machine.

group 1 needs ports: 3345 TCP, 3346 TCP and 5000-10000 UDP range
group 2 needs ports: 3345 TCP, 3346 TCP and 5000-10000 UDP range as well as port 22 TCP

If I understand correctly, I need to create ipsets. So one ipset will have group 1 ips, and secons ipset will have group 2 ips.

My questions are:

1. How do I tie 2 different ipsets with specific ports to same "external" interface?

2. IPs in the groups mentioned above can change, so I need to write a script that retrieves fresh ips, updates the ipsets and reloads firewall. What's the correct way to do this? Can I overwrite a file somewhere in /etc/ ? Where are ipsets ips stored? (In SuseFirewall2 I used to inject a custom line in the config file and restart service)

I know I've asked a lot of questions but I hope I've clearly described what I am trying to accomplish. If not, please let me know and I can provide more detail.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

TUMBLEWEED KDE Plasma: Terminal Shortcut not working

$

I wasn't sure whether this issue is related to Plasma or a specific version of it used by Tumbleweed, so I wasn't quite sure what the right forum would be. Decided for this one then.
I have both Ctrl+Alt+T and Meta+Enter set as a shortcut for my standard terminal emulator. This worked until I switched to Cool Retro Term as standard terminal emulator. I thought it might be because of this, so I switched back to Konsole, after which it still wasn't working. I rebooted, it still wasn't working. I can call both of them manually though.
My system had all available updates applied all the time.

EDIT: I just tried setting another option (Search) in the "System Settings" tab of "Global Shortcuts". This one didn't work either. All other shortcuts work though.

OTHER VERSION no [AMD/ATI] Raven/Raven2/Fenghuang sound in 15.1 or 15.2

$

This is an already installed on HD system from a dead 5 year old AMD motherboard/CPU/APU migrating to new parts form AMD, Asus, Corsair and EVGA. Booting 15.1 and 15.2 and reconfiguring for the changed MAC address was no problem. Even 42.3 and 13.1 boot with no (required) changes other than 70-persistent-net.rules. Getting X to work was handled in another thread. YaST sound module accomplished nothing. https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Audio_troubleshooting looks so out of date it's almost scary, much like 5 years ago.

Code:

> inxi -SAxx
System:    Host: Easystreet Kernel: 5.3.18-lp152.3-default x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 7.5.0 Desktop: KDE 3 wm: kwin

alsa-info.txt is at 15.1 and 15.2.
Links to: lspci and lspci -vv

I know there's a cmdline initialization command I want to try, but its name is apparently in a memory black hole, as is the name of the SLE dev who got me through a similar ordeal several years ago. Neither alsactl nor aplay seem to be the right one. I know it's in a bug report I at least commented several years ago, but B.O.O. is behaving horribly slowly whenever I try to search it (unless it's a saved search).

It really would be nice to get (HDMI only) audio working without another 20 hours of searching and experimenting. :p

Dear collegues!

I am trying to setting up custom very simple script in POST_UP_SCRIPT for eth1 interface file "/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth1".

POST_UP_SCRIPT="compat:suse:/etc/wicked/scripts/test"
or
POST_UP_SCRIPT="wicked:/etc/wicked/scripts/test"

but when I am trying do "ifdown eth1" then "ifup eth1" or "systemctl restart network.service" nothing happen. Inside script is simple test command "touch file". Script works manually from shell.
I read wicked documentation, and took a look on some places in web, but without success...
What I do wrong?

Generally I would like to setup "ip route" & "ip rule" and maybe some additional stuff for eth1 when is up.
Its SUSE system.

Thanks in advance!

Solved this:
