openSUSE 13.2 Ich glaube ich habe mein System angeknackst

$

Thank you for NOT using Gparted in your installer

I've been trying to install just about any flavor of Linux and none of them would work, because as soon as they probed for drives, the installers would all crash. A quick live cd made it clear the issue was with Gparted crashing. I wish I could recall the long error that was displayed, but basically, it had to do with my volume labels (it's an outstanding bug).

The only "solution" every kept coming up with was to wipe your drive clean and start over. I didn't see that as a solution because I had Windows 10 and XP running exactly how I wanted them and only wanted to add Linux.

I tried Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, CentOS, ect.. ect.. ONLY OpenSuSe was able to install and ONLY OpenSuSe could correctly format my 2 partitions without hurting the rest of my drive.

Thank you!!!

TUMBLEWEED Advice please on slow boot process

I had noticed my TW boot had slowed down on my dekstop PC recently so decided to run systemd-analyze blame and it showed
Code:

34.145s systemd-journal-flush.service
which is the longest process by far. Running journalctl --disk-usage shows
Code:

Archived and active journals take up 904.0M on disk.
So any suggestions as to how to improve this please?

As states, The last few boots, TW booted to command login prompt.
After logging in, with about 5 seconds, the GUI splash (showing the loading bar momentarily) showed up and I was presented with a full GUI system.
WHat is going on here, and how do I fix it?
thanks in advance

Hello,

since snapshot 20160907 the boot process ends with text console on tty1.
On tty7 I have only the boot messages.
Login on tty1 as root and executing init 5 start the GUI and I can log in KDE.
Before these snapshots the boot ended with the GUI login.
I didn't change anything else than the snapshots installation via "zypper dup"

I just wonder if anyone can help me set up this NEW printer. I managed to set it up in Windows with a minimum of fuss but am finding it difficult in opensSUSE 13.1 I have running on an older laptop.
YAST does not seem to find it and when I put in the address (192.168.1.225) which was obtained from my Android Epson iPrint facility I am faced with a list of many epson printers but not this one (ET-4500). I'm not sure I'll even make it work connecting it directly via a USB cable as I can still not find it listed. I even downloaded an epson rpm which appeared to install automatically with YAST but am no wiser yet as to what to do next?
Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance.:P

LEAP 42.1 Issues with recent updates

Hi,

I am having 2 problems with updating my laptop. I'm running KDE. My laptop is the 2015 Dell XPS 13 with Broadcom Wifi.

Firstly, it is requesting that I update NetworkManager. When I do this, Networkmanager connects to wireless and wired networks but it does not connect to the internet. When I open my web browser, it says "Server not found". The packages it is updating are:
NetworkManager-branding-upstream (1.4.0-287.1)
NetworkManager-lang (1.4.0-287.1)
NetworkManager-vpnc-lang (1.0.8-85.1)
NetworkManager-vpnc (1.0.8-85.1)
NetworkManager (1.4.0-287.1)

The second problem is that on the GUI software updater, there are updates showing which cannot be updated because dependencies cannot be resolved. These do not show up while running zypper up from the Konsole. These packages are:
opensuse-2016-1034
opensuse-2016-724

LEAP 42.1 Struggling to Uninstall nVidia drivers, can't start xorg now

I have been trying to upgrade from LEAP 42.1 to Tumbleweed and thought it best to uninstall the proprietary Nvidia drivers before upgrading.

I followed the instructions on the wiki about how to uninstall the Nvidia drivers, but zypper/YaST cannot remove nvidia-glG04 - it just gets stuck at 5% and then after maybe 30 minutes gives a lot of errors. All the other nvidia packages from the nvidia repo have been removed.

Now when I boot, it hangs at Starting Locale. I can login (after pressing ctrl+alt_f1) in the command line and check the Xorg log which says:

"LoadModule: "glx"
Failed to load...
UnloadModule: "glx"
LoadModule: "nvidia"
Warning, couldn't open module "nvidia
No drivers available"

That's the jist of it. I've tried to switch to nouveau using yast from the command line but it didn't seem to do much. I'm at a bit of a dead end at the moment, although I'm sure the solution isn't going to be complicated.

openSUSE 13.2 [intel graphics] opengl

Greetings !!

I have had some issues with the installation of a sufficient version of opengl to open the road to big applications for my students in my lab.
We have bought some "new" computers equipped with G4400 processors and HD 510 video chipset.

The problem is that I don't want to upgrade to LEAP, I have my reasons, (my test machine with LEAP has the same issue as I have a i5 processor in it).
I also have another i5 with 13.2 and I experience the same issue.

I shortcuted the issues as related to intel familly processors as all the amd computers have a working opengl environment.

The problem is that I never found a driver for the intel equipped computers.

The window manager (KDE/Gnome) has loaded the MESA driver (10.3.7 for most of all, on the LEAP computer I got 11.0.8)
In the 14 computers equipped with intel processors I got lot of skylake, one haswell and one ivybridge chipsets. As far as I'm correct.

The focus here will go straight on the skylake computers.

I tried to install the lastest MESA driver on those computers... I got kinfocenter telling me that 12.0.2 was installed, but once rebooted the computer I have no more opengl installed.
I got a message in the kinfocenter telling me "can't intialize opengl" when trying to get graphical environment informations related to opengl.

Same when trying to launch opengl applications developped by my students: can not intialize opengl or something more precise I did not write down.
I switched back to MESA 10.3.7 (it's so simple, it's amazing).

My question is: is somebody or a crew are interrested to tell me how I could install the correct intel drivers in order to have the great joy to exploit the full opengl capabilities of the intel's chipsets ??

I know that X rely not only on MESA to use opengl so installing MESA 12.0.2 without telling X to use it with KDE/Gnome may be the point I missed (that the poor explanation I have regarding the failure I described above).
As the 13.2 and LEAP 42.1 have their proper MESA drivers I think it's normal kInfoCenter won't do nothing more than display that MESA 12.0.2 is installed (note that code executed under this environment uses MESA 12.0.2) but once rebooted there is no more tracks of 12.0.2, the opengl is simply kicked off.

I tried to download and install the intel drivers from their site but none of those I tried were working... they seem to provide ubuntu, fedora drivers but nothing for our beloved opensuse distrib :{
The source code have to be modified to avoid compile code for fedora/ubuntu/... and I never succeeded to make the whole stuff work. I have no sufficient patience and knowledge :{

Thanks for your patience...

LEAP 42.1 Terratec G1 Videocapture

Dag allen,

Hardware:
Desktop met quad AMD FX
8gb intern
ssd 240 gb
hdd 2 tb
Video NVIDIA GF119 [GeForce GT 520]

I use openVPN to access https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/. It seems to be working (their site shows me being protected), but if I check my journal using:

there are many errors with the following:

Code:

Can anyone point me to what I should be looking for to fix this?
