Why do Virtualbox get installed on my Tumbleweed?

When I invoke
Code:

mpg123 xxx.mp3
all I get is clicks and hums. But if I start pavucontrol without changing anything in it the file plays just fine. If I close pavucontrol while it's playing it continues to play normally. But the next time without pavucontrol I get the clicks and hums again.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

TUMBLEWEED Docking Stations for OpenSUSE

$

I have a Lenovo FLEX 5 running Tumbleweed, and with some help on this forums I was able to get my DisplayLink based docking station to work. That said, the DisplayLink software has been running at 200% CPU regularly, and a quick search of the web reveals that seems to be the norm, and DisplayLink has no intention of fixing it for Linux users.

Taking that into account and the amount of time I have sunk into it, I am willing to just replace the docking station with one that doesn't use the DisplayLink software and works better with Linux, specifically OpenSUSE. I did a search, but I didn't find anything in the OpenSUSE Wiki about docking stations. When searching the web, I was having trouble finding any docking stations that didn't use DisplayLink, so I thought I would ask the Forums if they knew of any that worked well.

Any suggestions?

LEAP 15 Leap 15.0 install failure with Crucial MX100 SSD

$

Greetings!
I've searched the forum for information, if I missed it I apologize.
I have successfully installed Leap 15.0 on a 'rotating' hard drive on another machine.
Now I am attempting to install to a Crucial MX100 SSD (128GB). It has a normal SATA connection (slightly used from an old XP machine) and it fails right after the licence page..."Configure iSCSI Disks".
Clicking 'Next' it shows probing the hardware but breaks on Hard disks.
"ERROR
Internal error. Please report a bug with logs
Details:undefined method 'auto?' for #<Yast::ModeClass:0x000000000152c158>Did you mean ? auto
Caller: /mounts/YaST/lib/installation/clients/inst_system_analysis.rb:199:in'ActionHDDProbe'

Start the Ruby debugger now and debug the issue? (Experts only)"

Upon clicking 'No' and Next I get another error screen:

Calling the YaST module 'inst_system_analysis has failed.
More information can be found near the end of the '/var/log/YaST2/y2log' file.

This is worth reporting a bug at
http://bugzilla.suse.com/.
Please attach also all YaST logs stored in the '/var/log/YaST2/' directory.
See
http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs/YaST for more information about YaST logs.

I can't seem to attach files of these two screen images.

And, of course I can not look at any logs, as the installation failed.

Any suggestions that might help me use the SSD?

Have fun,
Paxton

LEAP 15 bridge-utils to link two directly-connected NIC's?

$

I have three servers - one server (head node) has a 2-port infiniband card, and the other two slave nodes each have a single port card - these are directly connected with copper cables. (no switch or router) I want to use a single OpenMPI process across all three computers, but the two slave nodes are trying to talk to each other and cannot because according to a "best NIC practices" document I found, I was supposed to assign each NIC on the head node to a separate subnet, which I did.

So, is a fix to use bridge-utils to make a bridge on the head node between the two subnets (NIC's)? I'm not sure this is the correct use of a bridge. Does anyone else have any recommendations?

Thank You!! :)

LEAP 42.3 ddclient service dead: error

I have two systems running ddclient to make use of dynamic domains.
Both of them with Opensuse 42.3.
Today I detected a dead ddclient service in one of them, while I was trying to recover it I tested the other system and I saw it was dead too.
The log was
Code:

2018-11-08T17:46:12.287376+01:00 tutatis systemd[1]: Starting A Perl Client Used To Update Dynamic DNS...
2018-11-08T17:46:12.288911+01:00 tutatis touch[12726]: /bin/touch: cannot touch '/var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache'
: Permission denied
2018-11-08T17:46:12.289227+01:00 tutatis systemd[1]: ddclient.service: Control process exited, code=exited status=1
2018-11-08T17:46:12.289677+01:00 tutatis systemd[1]: Failed to start A Perl Client Used To Update Dynamic DNS.
2018-11-08T17:46:12.290065+01:00 tutatis systemd[1]: ddclient.service: Unit entered failed state.
2018-11-08T17:46:12.290388+01:00 tutatis systemd[1]: ddclient.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

After some research I discovered that for some unknown reason the file /var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache had been changed of owner to root (instead of ddclient) and the script could not touch it.
Deleting the file worked in both systems

restarting the system recreated the file with the correct owner.
So, I post here just in case is useful for anybody.

The only questions left are:
Who caused the hange of owner?
It will happen again?

LEAP 15 Spectacle mess up

Ok is it just me or Spectacle in KDE Leap 15 is broken AF. This seems to happen when i choose to take a rectangular region for the screen shot - what you should see is Chrome open on the right monitor (full screen) and my desktop on the left monitor but instead i see the mess below which happens when i get to choose the region. Then when you actually try to take a screenshot its stuck on region selection or not even letting me select that - system keeps working but the overlay is always on top and i cant alt + tab to a program - it remains hidden underneath so its stuck like that.
Using xrandr for second monitor for scaling - didnt apply it for testing purposes but its still not working. This was working correctly in 42.3.

TUMBLEWEED Install gitkraken using community package

Hello,

I am trying to install gitkraken using this repository Home:gallochri . Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work.

In the installation, I got an error about dependencies which is libcrypto.so.1.0.0()(64bit).

After browsing the net, I found that libopenssl1_0_0 package provide this library and that I already have it in /usr/lib64/. So ,I have completed the installation by selecting 'break the package by ignoring some dependencies".

However, When I try to run gitkraken I got a problem related to this package. It seems like the libopenssl1_0_0 which I have is not the right file needed by gitkraken.

Code:

LEAP 15 quemu windows guest boots into bluescreen after kernel update to 4.12.14-lp150.12.25-default

$

After updating to kernel 4.12.14-lp150.12.25-default my qemu Windows 7 guest boots into a bluescreen.

When I boot my Leap 15.0 installation with the old kernel (Version 4.12.14-lp150.12.22-default) the win 7 guest boots without problems. I have also a Win XP guest which freezes while booting with the new kernel and works fine with old one.

That's my qemu command line:
qemu-system-i386 -vga std -monitor stdio -rtc base=localtime -m 2G -enable-kvm -soundhw hda -usb -device usb-ehci,id=ehci -net nic,macaddr=52:54:12:34:56:00,model=virtio -net user,smb=/home/hriesenb/vshared/windows -device virtio-balloon -drive file=Win7Prof32Bit_C.cow,index=0,media=disk,if=virtio -drive file=/vdata/data/WinData_D.cow,index=1,media=disk,if=virtio

Removing the -enable-kvm option lets the windows guests boot without failure with new kernel, but they are very slow as expected.

Has anyone and idea?

Best regards
Hartmut

LEAP 15 Xen Usb-Passthrough

$

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

since a couple of months I am using very successfully
XEN Hyperviser 4.10 with Leap 15 together with libvirt
Xen-tools (Virt-Manager, Virsh) provided with the latest
updates.

Now I have to attach some usb-devices (disks and sticks)
to VMs (HVM only) such as Win10, Win7, Ubuntu et al. My
actual information source is SUSE documentation "Virtu-
alization Guide Leap 15"; e.g.: passage 17.6 USB Pass-
Through, pages 169-171.
Both methods, attaching Emulated USB Devices and Paravirtu-
alized PVUSB are well explained in detail. The Documentation
recommends for PVUSB a paravirtualized front-end interface in
the guest VM. An USB back-end interface should come in Leap15
with QEMU by specifying 'type=qusb'. I tested all methods of
USB passing through, as described, but none of them worked on
my system. Command "xl usb-list VM_W10" in VM0 shows me the
appropriate usbdevice is correctly attached to the guest VM,
but the device is unknown and not at all available in the VM.
I was already looking for downloading PV-USB Front-End drivers
for WIN and Linux on the Xen and SUSE Web-Sites but found none.
Unfortunately the SUSE Docu does not report any sources where to
get such needed PV-USB Front-End drivers.

May I kindly ask for any tips, hints which could solve my
problem? - many thanks in advance.

Kind regards - manfred -

LEAP 15 Leap15 Installation on Dell XPS15 9570 stalls at hardware detection

$

I'am trying to install LEAP15.0 on a Dell XPS15 9570 with Intel 8750H Nvidia 1050TI and UHD Display. After disabling secure boot I'm able to boot the LEAP15 Installation USB thumb drive.
This starts up and comes to the point where it says:

>>> OpenSUSE 15 Installation program v5.1.11 (c) 1996-2018 SUSE LLC <<<
Starting udev ...
Loading Basic drivers.. ok
Starting hardware detection...

... and there it hangs forever.
Any ideas how to fix that problem ? Other than installing Tumbleweed, which seems to work

I have an issue that on the Snapshot 20181107 that the check marks for selecting software at install are all gone.
I also see new icons on gnome patterns.
This makes it impossible to select which software to install.
I am running this in Virtualbox 5.2.20.r25813.
I have not checked on a bare metal machine to see if I can replicate this but I have not time to do so atm.
But both the DVD and net install shows up like this.
On the previous snapshot a few days ago I had no issues installing tumbleweed.

LEAP 42.3 OpenSuse Leap Wicked network 802.1x

Hi all,

I am looking to setup 802.1x support on a OpenSuse Leap 42.3 machine through wicked.

I found this form post - https://forums.opensuse.org/showthre...-configuration

Which was very useful and allowed me to get support for 802.1x using gnome network manager, however I can't seem to find or configure 802.1x using wicked.

Does wicked officially support 802.1x? I have seen references to it for wicked but nothing actually showing how to enable it nor can I find how to enable it through yast.

Any help or direction would be great.

Thank you

I am trying to set up a second usb monitor with my system. It works just fine in windows but not when I’m in linux. After a bit of searching I discovered that I need to get the DisplayLink driver.

I’ve been trying to follow the instructions from these links:

HTML Code:

https://codeholics.com/2017/12/20/displaylink-dk1522-issue-after-opensuse-leap-42-3-upgrade/

HTML Code:

https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/517590-Installing-the-(malcolmlewis)-DisplayLink-openSUSE-LEAP-42-1-driver
But when I try to run the line
Code:

patch ./evdi/evdi_fb.c ./evdi_fb.patch
I get the following error:
Code:

FAILED at 229

 FAILED at 247

2 hunks FAILED – saving rejects to file ./evdi/evdi_fb.c.rej

I am not sure how to proceed from here.

I run openSUSE Leap 42.3 with a 4.4.159-73 kernel and I have an Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller.

TUMBLEWEED Computer frozen by btrfs-cleaner & btrfs-transacti using 100% CPU

$

I need urgent help with a major issue. I just preformed a fresh install of openSUSE Tumbleweed. I am now able to log in, however my machine is so slow I'm barely able to use it and even write this post.

I managed to log in from root and catch a glimpse of what's happening with "top": There are two processes called btrfs-cleaner and btrfs-transacti. The two are using 100% of my CPU, to the point where the rest of the system has no resources left to operate. The horrifying part is that it's completely impossible to kill them, something I've never experienced with any other process before: The command "kill -9 PID" does nothing to them, they are essentially being forced onto my system.

How do I get rid of them please? I managed to search for a bit of info: They're apparently related to some snapshot backup mechanism that's part of btrfs. I've never heard of it before so this is completely new to me, my previous install was on an ext4 partition so I've never ran into those things. What am I supposed to do to prevent this issue please?

TUMBLEWEED PulseAudio doesn't detect Logitech wireless headphones

$

I'm running into a strange issue after a fresh install of openSUSE: When I go into YaST2 -> Hardware -> Sound, I can see two of my audio devices (the one integrated into the motherboard, the HDMI audio of the video card) but not the third one (wireless Logitech headphones using a nano-receiver). I tried plugging the receiver in and out of USB ports but the device no longer pops up there any more. The issue doesn't seem to affect ALSA so I get sound just fine in most programs, but with applications that use Pulseaudio this might be an issue. How do I understand why PA doesn't detect my headphones then make it see the device?
