LEAP 15 How is JeOS intended to be used ?

$

Its unclear how JeOS is meant to be used in production ?

For example, VMware version is only available as vmdk download not ISO.

This means I'm left with a "nanny knows best" situation where the size and partitioning of the disk is whatever SUSE team decided is "best" ?

LEAP 42.3 GCC Fortran

I have a low-priority question about the GCC Fortran package (gcc48-fortran 4.8.5-38.4).

According to https://gcc.gnu.org/fortran/ "The initial goal of the GNU Fortran Project was construction of a Fortran 95 compiler that complies with the ISO Fortran 95 Programming Language standard [ISO/IEC 1539-1:1997(E)]. We are now well into F2003 and F2008 features."

However the package included with Leap 42.3 doesn't appear to support the command-line option
-std = { f95 | f2003 | f2008 | gnu | legacy } as documented in the package man page. The single option "f95" with no "-std=" is accepted, but none of the alternatives.

What Fortran version is actually supported by this package? Has the man page got ahead of the implementation?

Hi
what should I do ?
I got this message everytime
now I can't update my system and I can't install codec and my nvidia driver :(
Code:

Warning: Digest verification failed for file 'apparmor-docs-2.12-lp150.5.1_lp150.6.6.1.noarch.drpm'

Accepting packages with wrong checksums can lead to a corrupted system and in extreme cases even to a system compromise.

However if you made certain that the file with checksum '6d76..' is secure, correct
and should be used within this operation, enter the first 4 characters of the checksum
to unblock using this file on your own risk. Empty input will discard the file.

Unblock or discard? [6d76/...? shows all options] (discard):

Just ideas I thought I'd voice. You can take them or leave them as you like.

I usually use the Plasma desktop but some of these ideas would apply to others.

I'd really like to have drag and drop in the menu.

It would be cool if all the widgets on the desktop and the panel were locked or unlocked at the same time. You could also lock or unlock them individually independently of all the others.

I see that at least some widgets can be resized and reshaped from any point on the edge(s) but not all of them. If you can't sometimes its difficult to get them placed and arranged where you want them.

In Dolphin it would be nice if hard drives were displayed as hard drives and partitions as partitions and the partitions could be displayed under the hard drives they were on.

Also when you selected a place that the hard drive and partition it was on would open and expand and highlight that place in the same left pane without being on another tab or splitting the pane. Then you could navigate from there.

It would be nice to be able to open the file manager navigate to an audio cd, click a track and have it play without copying to the hard drive first.

By the same token right click the cd and select play. Boom.

Just some ideas that I think would change it from being cumbersome to awesome.

They always told me I couldn't use Linux like windows but I did it anyway.

I did not post this in soapbox because it is not meant to be a rant.

LEAP 15 Leap 15, JeOS, on rPi3B+ not working?

Hello all,

I'm trying to follow this tutorial: https://www.osradar.com/install-mongodb-opensuse-15/

And immediately hit some snags. First, off of a fresh install, created a user other than root with a home directory and passwd, I tried running zypper up as root and hit the known checksum does not match errors already discussed at the top of this forum.

So I figured I'd skip that and go to the next step. Trying to add the server:database repo, refresh repos, and then try to install mongodb, but it came back with no provider of mongodb found.

What do you guys think of this? When I tried following the same steps from here: https://software.opensuse.org//downl...ackage=mongodb

I ran into the same problems.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Неудачная проверка подписи фалов репозитория Update (15.0-Leap)

OTHER VERSION Any version of linux work with Acer Aspire 4730z??

I stumbled across posts by another user on this forum who hasn't posted in 2 years but had in his tag line that he was running opensuse 13.2 on an Acer Aspire 4730Z.

I tried to install this version on my laptop. It installs. But the bootloader fails to get past the ramdisk initialization.

I tried Kali and Debian linux, neither would even boot past the intro screens to get to the installation area.

Ubuntu was like openSuse in that it installed but grub would always hang. I didn't turn off the silent and quiet options before overwriting that to try opensuse.

I don't know if the insydebios that these machines come with is such trash that it won't allow any linux to work properly. I've looked carefully at the EFI v. bios loading. This machine was loading via bios when windows 7 was on it (that's how I originally got this hand me down). When I managed to get debian to boot live and ran tests it was also booting via bios then too.

I'm desperate for some help here. I was thinking if I could get ubuntu, opensuse or one of the other versions that had keys for secureboot to install I could then chain and use the bootloader to load other versions of linux I wanted like Kali. BTW, the bios is 1.22. It shows no options to change between legacy or EFI. It shows no options to change between secureboot being enabled vs. off. I was told by another well informed coder that if it was booting via bios that secureboot wasn't enabled and shouldn't be a concern.

Again, if any one has any knowledge about how to get opensuse or any version of linux installed on this type of laptop I would be grateful.

OTHER VERSION Installation on a Mac

I used https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Installation_on_a_Mac last summer only in part. At that time I partitioned what I expected to be fully on a new HD, then installed 15.0 on the 24" iMac. Once satisfied how 15.0 was working I installed from the only Apple media I had access to, Snow Leopard 10.6.3. Upgrading it beyond 10.6.8 proved an impossible task, mainly due to inability to create an Apple ID account by any means at my disposal. I succeeded in multibooting via rEFInd, then the project sat for about 9 months. Last week I picked the project back up. I found someone to take it to to use with his own Apple ID to download the necessary latest upgrade image file, El Capitan 10.11.6.

Originally I gave half the disk to OS X & half to openSUSE, 3 partitions each, making swap sda4, root sda5 and home sda6. Somehow I managed to miss the point in time at which Mac installation deleted the original 368G ESP, created a 200G new ESP, shrunk the original sda2 for the OS X system, and added a small recovery partition sda3 in between the HFS system and HFS data partitions, which moved the HFS data from sda3 to sda4, and shuffled up the Linux partitions.

The following outlines today's activity and provides some possibly relevant data:
Code:

At this point, only El Capitan can be booted without assistance. Startup Manager does not list anything related to booting openSUSE. I have a special stanza on a 15.0 USB stick that is booting right into the installed OS. What I can't remember from last summer and seem to be missing on the SDB page is any indication whether or not openSUSE's EFI grub could ever boot it after getting Snow Leopard installed. I'm mystified whether I've done enough that it's ready to proceed with re-installing rEFInd, and why what I've done isn't enough to make 15.0 boot without the stick.

1-Can anyone here see something I've missed; is it now time to re-install rEFInd?

2-[I had a question earlier about the SDB page, but can't remember it now that I'm here typing this. It's been a very very long day. :( ]

LEAP 15 Web Server over serial port

Hi,
I have an equipment with Ethernet Port, RS485 and RS232. Mainly it is a gateway (Modbus/Unitelway gateway from RS485 and Ethernet or RS232 -
exactly is this instruments : https://www.schneider-electric.com/r...k01_000_05.pdf
On this gateway runs a Web server for configuring it and in the past, during commissioning, I changed the default IP with an IP gave to me by customer. Now this gateway has been put out of service by customer and
I'm trying to (re)use it. I tried to access it by the IP that I knew and even with the default IP but the gateway doesn't reply. I read the user manual & I see there non possibility to reset the IP to the default one.
I read that is possible to access the gateway via RS232 (normally within a modem) with the use of PPP protocol (page 36) :
Quote:

The connection uses the PPP protocol (Point-to-Point Protocol). Thanks to this protocol, once the telephone link has been established the modem link will be
viewed on the application level in the same way as a TCP/IP link
This is the procedure explained in the user manual (page 104) :
Quote:

1 - Connect a RS 232 crossover cable between a PC COM port and the 9-pin SUB-D port on the ETZ module
2 - Establish the serial connection between the PC and the module
3&4 - Open the Internet browser on your PC : In the "Address" field, type: http://85.16.0.2, then <Enter>
5&6 - Web server access & operations
I have a serial port on my PC (/dev/ttyS0) and I have connetted PC & gateway with a null modem RS232c cable ... so point 1 should be OK
Point 2 is the key point ....

I read in the net that I need SLIP but it's not clear what I have to do. I've found the following commands :
Quote:

slattach -p cslip -s 19200 /dev/ttyS0 &
Quote:

ifconfig sl0 IP-Pc pointtopoint IP-destination

slattach output :
Code:

[1] 7691
No errors but I don't know the meaning/use of the output

ifconfig it's deprecated and not installed (I can install it from package net-tools-deprecated but I prefer not to do it) & I did not find the equivalent command (maybe it's 'ip').

What next ?

TUMBLEWEED kernel 5 i915 broken only on on Dell Precision 5530?

I got two machines - Thinkpad t470 and Precision 5530. Both running latest (0322) snapshots. While Thinkpad boots into latest 5.0.2 kernel just fine, Precision fails to boot. After setting debug flag during boot i could see system start booting until it reached "i915 0000:00:02.0: fb0: inteldrmfb frame buffer device"... and froze right there.
I would like to debug this, to make sensible bug report...but, when i'm booting system with i915 driver enabled system wont go past above message. Not even past where cryptsetup passing password question to plymouth...basically i do not have any logs in this case.
When i disable i915 driver system boots into runlevel 5 (or what they call nowadays multiuser target), but with failed display of course...unfortunately i really doubt that logs would be of any help here considering that all problems are attributed to disabled i915 driver.
If you have any ideas on how to debug this intelligently please let me know.
thnx
