LEAP 15 About 2 hours to install?!?

$

Wow, I haven't used OpenSuse Leap in a long time but never remembered it taking about 2 hours to install from a 3.6 GB DVD ISO!? What's point in spending 3.5 hours downloading a near 4gb ISO when it downloads everything from the repos anyway? I thought the Net Installer was for downloading straight from repos, and the big dvd ISO was to have all packages installed straight from the big ISO so installation was faster?

I started the installation of packages at 10:55pm and it's now 12:45am and I'm just now installing the boot loader... wtf going on guys? LOL! Also would be nice to have option for XFCE4, or individual ISOs for whatever DE you want, like Fedora does... KDE ISO, XFCE ISO, Gnome ISO, etc etc. Further, was wondering if after a whopping 5.5 hours of downloading and installing, if I'm able to even install my favorite brave browser into this anyway? Or did I waste 5.5 hours for nothing, and just stick with Windows 7.

Edit: 12:50am now, and its still stuck at 50% of saving bootloader in virtualbox... wtf... you guys really REALLY NEED to get your ISO sizes down and installation times... I tried installing this other day and had no patience for it to finish... takes too **** long.

Hello

What's going on with the opensuse leap 15.0 repository?
Yesterday I wanted to upgrade my packages (about 150 packages to update) but had no time.
Today almost all packages shows me that on the server there is a older version as my installed versions....

Hello :)

I created my autoinst.xml, and I would like to ask if there is a possibility to install patterns with the --no-recommends switch (i.e. zypper in --no-recommends -t pattern x11)?
How should I enter it into autoinst.xml?
Code:

<patterns config:type="list">
      <pattern>apparmor</pattern>
      <pattern>apparmor_opt</pattern>
      <pattern>base</pattern>
      <pattern>enhanced_base</pattern>
      <pattern>enhanced_base_opt</pattern>
      <pattern>fonts</pattern>
      <pattern>fonts_opt</pattern>
      <pattern>laptop</pattern>
      <pattern>minimal_base</pattern>
      <pattern>sw_management</pattern>
      <pattern>yast2_basis</pattern>
      <pattern>x11</pattern>
      <pattern>gnome_basis</pattern>
    </patterns>

When I set
Code:

<install_recommended config:type="boolean">false</install_recommended>
YAST is installing only ~30 packages, without kernel, grub, etc...
Any idea? :(

LEAP 42.3 Leap 42.3 and Leap 15 locking up .

I've been using openSUSE on this older machine successful for quite a while until a few weeks ago when my 42.3 began locking with the H/D buzzing away uncontrollably. At first I thought the Meltdown-Spectre patches then I figured H/D failure. There was NO response what so ever to any commands or keystrokes. Hard switching was the only option for reset. With a fresh install of Leap 15 on a clean H/D I still have the same results.

Is this hardware too old and obsolete?

Hi,

I have tumbleweed installed and would like to install win 10 alongside it. I need help with figuring out the partitioning. This is my current setup:
Code:

NAME  MAJ:MIN RM  SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sda      8:0    0  1,8T  0 disk
└─sda1  8:1    0  1,8T  0 part /home
sdb      8:16  0 238,5G  0 disk
├─sdb1  8:17  0  500M  0 part /boot/efi
├─sdb2  8:18  0    40G  0 part /usr/local
└─sdb3  8:19  0  15,6G  0 part [SWAP]

I would like to install windows on sda. I'm not very good with partitioning and don't want to mess it up so I'm asking for your help :)

Leap 15, KDE, and an HP Office Jet Pro 8720

I'm hoping to be able to print via a USB cable.

Using the Yast Printer setup, the printers serial number is detected, and the print test page ejects 1 blank page, so the USB communication is OK.

This is the error log.

LEAP 15 LEAP 15 updates

Thursday I loaded the DVD download Leap 15 on a new machine. After the install I downloaded updates via YAST twice. The machine at login and the info center show Leap 15 was the operating system. The rest of Thursday and Friday I was moving minor items to the new machine (Bookmarks, Calendar, Address Books etc). Nothing major. The system perform as expected. On Friday I noticed the software arrow in the panel said I had 1251 updates. Quickly checking with YAST shown no updates. So I ignored the panel notice until this AM. I checked some of the files using YAST software management. Each one I checked shown updates available but none showed up with YAST online software management. So I closed YAST and open the panel software update for the 1251 files & clicked on install updates (which installed without a root password). After it completed the update the machine now shows the operating system is Tumbleweed.

TUMBLEWEED How do I update to Gnome 3.32?

$

Hello. Yesterday I installed openSUSE Tumbleweed. I saw an article in my phone's news feed about gnome 3.32 and started searching about this version on opensuse. I found an article about that(http://www.ubuntubuzz.com/2019/03/av...x-distros.html). I added the repos, and tried to update the system. However, when I run
Code:

suo zypper dup
it doesn't show any updates. I installed some packages using YaST( by selecting 3.32 on different apps). Now I have some apps that are for Gnome 3.32 and most of the others aren't. Also, in the "Details" tab in gnome control center it shows Gnome 3.30.2 instead of 3.32. Any ideas about how I could fix this? How I could update the whole system to 3.32?

LEAP 15 Virtualbox created files in $HOME

Hi there,

when looking thru my AppArmor logs I see, Virtualbox wants to create some files or folders in $HOME like $HOME/.glvnd0N0229 or $HOME/#55840894

What the heck does Virtualbox want to store there and is there a way to tell VBox where to store its temporary stuff instead?

There is $HOME/.cache/ and $HOME/.config/ I find it odd, VBox wants to write to the user´s root folder....

Thanx

LEAP 15 libuuid-devel : Yast reporting wrong digest (checksums don't match)

Hi, I have libuuid previously installed, and have decided to install libuuid-devel. However Yast complains of a wrong digest when I attempt the install, saying that the checksum in /var/temp/..../x86_64/libuuid-devel-2.31.1-lp150.7.6.1.x86_64.rpm is not the same as the current checksum. Tells me it's a big risk to use the file. Not sure if it's a problem at my end or in the software repo. Can anyone point me in the right direction please. bazzar.
