LEAP 15.1 How to perform xfs_repair on encrypted partition

$

Hi,
I got problems with xfs partition, I would perform an xfs_repair on that partition. According documentation of xfs_repair the partition should not be mounted and some post suggest to boot on usb key and then perform the repair. My problem is the partition is encrypted and I have no idea how to open an encrypted partition.

My question is: How to perform an xfs_repair when the partition is encrypted ?

Notes:
1) I can boot on the computer because the corrupted system is /home but after the boot the /home is mounted and xfs_repair couldn't be perform
2) I can boot using an usb key but I don't know how open the partition

Thanks for your help or advice's.

LEAP 15.0 Adding iptables to Firewall config to make change permanent for Samba

$

Like some others I'm having problems with Dophin seeing Windows/Samba shares. However I found this fix which works:

Code:

iptables -t raw -A OUTPUT -p udp -m udp --dport 137 -j CT --helper netbios-ns
Is anyone out there up enough on iptables and the firewall to know how to make this rule part of the firewall configuration so it's permanent?

Thanks!

LEAP 15.1 Trying to install openSuSE on a new computer.

I just bought a new computer -- DELL XPS8930 with two hard disk drives. Downloaded the ISO and burned it to a memory stick with Etcher. When I try to boot from there, it runs for about half a minute, and then it just dies.

Tried to boot from a DVD ... that one can't see my solid-state disk, just the regular SATA drive. And it throws a lot of i/o errors once it starts reading from the repositories.

Any ideas?

TUMBLEWEED How to access SMS on SIM card in wireless Huawei E3372s

Hello!

Is there an easy way to access SMS for a SIM-card in a Huawei E3372s (e.g. directly in Networkmanager)? I read about Gammu/Wammu or gnokki or AT commands, but that seems overkill for just reading an SMS now and then...

Any ideas? :-)

Many thanks in advance

LEAP 15.1 upgrade freezes on starting udev

My old Asus laptop is running Opensuse 42.3 and I went to upgrade to 15.1 but it just freezes on "starting udev". Any thoughts as to what might be wrong? I would like to keep using linux on this machine if possible, but 42.3 is no longer supported so if I can't upgrade I'm in a spot of bother!

Thanks very much.

LEAP 15.1 merkwürdiges verhalten beim override von systemd scripten

Ahoi,

LEAP 15.1 How do I write the shebang for an application manged by update alternatives.

I installed oorexx and regina with Yast with selection by update-alternatives (https://software.opensuse.org/packag...e-alternatives and https://software.opensuse.org/packag...2-alternatives). There is a link at /usr/bin/rexx, but bash does not accept #!/usr/bin/rexx as a valid shebang. How do I get bash to use the currently active Rexx for a Rexx script.

TUMBLEWEED dual booting windows/opensuse

I'm attempting to install OpenSuse Tumbleweed on a new laptop (Acer Touch 12) with an already existing Windows installation. I had already tried this by going with the installation prompt (auto) but only Windows booted up. Upon further looking online, I understood that I needed to manually partition plus edit the windows boot partition to /boot. So trying it again, my main objective is to delete the partitions the previous install created and replace them with simply "/" and swap. When I got to the expert partition screen I saw a lot of partitions listed and really want to be careful *not* to delete anything windows related. I've included a picture of the the partition list. Noticed I can't do attachments here so here's a link to flickr https://www.flickr.com/gp/rkonrad/537b85

Which are safe to delete? Thanks!

OTHER VERSION trying to install leap 15.0 over leap42.3

Still having problems with install problems on machine 3000 miles from me.

Originally I made this PC with Leap 42.3 on it and sent it to her working. Few months later it crashed first running firefox, the screen would just go black and nothing she could worked to bring it back except forced shutdown and reboot then it would work again for a few minutes and same thing. I had her open a terminal and as root do zypper up. Next boot it crashed to black screen immediately after GUI desktop (plasma KDE) showed. I had her use flashdrive gecko linux and told her back everything up from her NTFS partition in case we heve to take drastic steps. She has been running off this flashdrive now for almost a year. During that time I made a USB with leap 15.0 on it and tested it by installing to my machine which is identical to hers. It worked perfectly for me. Sent it to her and it crashed just before writing partition table step.

We did do a fsck-ext4 from the flashdrive running gecko and it said her ext4 partition on the PC was ok.

I know leap 15.0 complains if you choose ext4 instead of btrfs but afaik btrfs just fills your disk with useless snapshots which is why we stayed with ext4.

So what else can I do to instruct her on how to fix her linux partition with a working copy of some sort. I don't know what to try at all. Leap 42.3 is dead, Leap 15.0 is dead, and her internet connection is so slow iso downloads take a long time and usually fail near the end.

LEAP 15.0 Battery display shows 0%, despite being fully charged

The battery icon in the Panel shows that it is at 0%, even though it is fully charged. I use KDE. It started this behavior after I briefly used the computer on the battery power. Since then it always incorrectly displays the battery's charge.

I know it is wrong because when I open the VM windows machine, the battery there correctly displays 100% charged AND when I remove the computer from the wall charger, it works fine for hours, even though the whole time it reports 0% battery and is not connected to a power source.

I guess this is a bit of a cosmetic problem, because the computer basically performs correctly, but it is nice to know the actual battery charge level, for those times when I don't have it connected to the wall charger.

Any ideas what the problem is here? Or better yet, how to fix it?

LEAP 15.1 Nvidia driver intermittent IRQ error and freeze on boot.

I get a freeze during boot that I think is caused by this:

Code:

[    30.813] (EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0): The NVIDIA kernel module does not appear to be receiving
[    30.813] (EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0):    interrupts generated by the NVIDIA GPU at PCI:2:0:0.
[    30.813] (EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0):    Please see Chapter 8: Common Problems in the README for
[    30.813] (EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0):    additional information.

The freeze gives me a blank screen with cursor but completely unresponsive to anything other than hard reboot.

The readme (here https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/...nproblems.html ) says its IRQ relate but when I look for one with lsdev it seems fine - but then I can only run lsdev when its booted.

How can I find the cause of what seems to be an intermitted IRQ problem given it stops booting?

Thanks for any help. I cannot figure this out at all.

Tried login but used wrong user name. Instead of coming up with a useful error message I got “This page isn’t redirecting properly.” Opening anew tab to the forums page got the same error. Waiting a day cleared things up enough to view the forums page but entering the wrong login screwed it all again.

Only managed to login by going ing to my iPad - and checking I used the correct login!

Using Firefox on both platforms.

LEAP 15.1 Saving bootloader configuration fails with LVM setup

$

Hi,

I am trying to install 15.1 from DVD on a small newly built box that I want to use as a server. I have two new 120GB SSDs, I've given the first a 1GB /boot/efi partition, the second a 1GB swap partition, and the remaining space is given over to an LVM volume group named vg0.

vg0 consists of a 64GB thin pool named tp0 and the remainder is a regular XFS formatted logical volume named lv_data given over to application data, and striped across the two disks in the pool.

tp0 is allocated with the following thin volumes (name - mount point - size), all XFS unless indicated otherwise:

lv_root - / - 32GB (Btrfs)
lv_home - /home - 2GB
lv_log - /var/log - 2GB
lv_tmp - /tmp - 2GB

The install goes well up until it tries to install the bootloader, at which point it cannot connect to lvmetad so falls back to device scanning, then reports that it cannot a disk identified by an lvmid:

Quote:

After OKing the message it appears again a couple of minutes later, after OKing that it continues as if the installation is complete and reboots after a couple more minutes. Upon reboot no bootable system is found on hard disks and it passes to the DVD ROM and if I try the option to boot an installed Linux system from the DVD it does not find an installed system. I've also tried following the routine to re-install grub from the rescue system as follows:

Code:

vgchange -ay vg0
mount /dev/mapper/vg0-lv_root /mnt
mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev
mount --bind proc proc /mnt/proc
mount --bind sysfs sysfs /mnt/sys
chroot /mnt
grub2-mkconfig-o /bot/grub2/grub.cfg

But at that point I get the same error message as above.

I feel like there is nothing in the setup that should be stopping it, there is an adequately sized FAT-formatted EFI boot partition and I have another desktop with a similar setup where root is on a thin volume (albeit from an older version of openSuse which has been upgraded, not a fresh install of 15.1) so don't see this as an issue. I have retried the whole install procedure (including generating new GPTs for both disks) a couple of times with the same end result. Have also tried changing the SATA ports that the disks are connected to because initially I had plugged them into RAID-capable ports which was not recommended in the UEFI screens, but on grounds of speed, not boot-ability.

Motherboard is an AsRock C2550D4I, disks are Kingston 120GB UV500 SSDs, please let me know if any other hardware info is useful. Any help would be gratefully received.

LEAP 15.1 How to configure KDE5 widget for getting updates only with my request? (plasma5-pk-updates)

$

KDE5 update widget "plasma5-pk-updates" has good tuning in Leap 15.0.
It is searching for updates at a boot time only once, then I can run it manually when I need it.
I set it searching for updates every week (once a week).
But in Leap 15.1 update widget is seeking for updates every time I plug in network cable.

How can I configure its behaviour?

LEAP 15.1 Incomplete standby

Hello

I have a problem with my fresh installation of 15.1 (no upgrade).
First, the system was shutting down or rebooting only after some (long) time.

I uninstalled lvm2, liblvm2cmd2_02, liblvm2app2_2 and then shutdown and rebooting went fast.

Next problem: When trying to suspend (standby, to RAM), the computer does not turn off the fan (and probably other things), but it turns off the monitor and network connections etc.

I have a dual installation of OpenSuse 42.3 on the same (older) machine without such problems. The computer BIOS is from 2012.
I'm still booting via boot manager from 42.3.

The journal looks like below.

Any ideas? Thank you!
