What am I to do ?
I’m on gnome, leap 15.1, kernel 4.12
I went into files and folders and found out :
- there are two kernels : 4.15 and 4.16 that were downloaded when I used packagekit for updates. Need to delete these . But in what folder are there ???

- Though I work with gnome, kde*plasma was installed years ago as I needed astronomy programs (kstar, stellarium) … how to softly uninstall that ?

- Years ago, as I needed a program , 32 bits files were installed, though the whole system is in 64 bits. How to delete these withut disturbing the whole system ?

Thanks a lot.

LEAP 15.1 optimus laptop and leap 15.1 do not connect to external hdmi monitor

Dear experts

I recently bought a Asus Rog Stix G laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GDDR5 graphics card.
After a fresh install of leap 15.1, the laptop does not recognize an external HDMI monitor.
Under windows it works fine!

To solve the issue I installed only SUSE-prime.
If I do
Code:

prime-select nvidia
I get:
Code:

modprobe: FATAL: Module nvidia_drm not found in directory /lib/modules/4.12.14-lp151.28.36-default
/usr/sbin/prime-select: line 78: nvidia-xconfig: command not found
PCI BusID of NVIDIA card could not be detected!

When I do:
Code:

xrandr -q
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 8192 x 8192
eDP-1 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 194mm
  1920x1080    120.04*+  48.01

File /var/log/Xorg.0.log has only two instances related to HDMI:

Code:

What can I do to solve this ????

TUMBLEWEED zypper dup refers to BIOS

Using Tumbleweed version 20200122 with KDE, booting in EFI mode. After latest update the boot stops right at the beginning with a blue BIOS screen with the following options:
  • Continue to boot
  • Enrol MOK (what ist the meaning of the acronym MOK?)
  • Enrol key from disk
  • Enrol hash from disk

I selected the first option continue to boot. It booted alright and everything works but with the next boot the boot process stops again at the same blue screen. To boot normally what do I need to select?
Any help is appreciated. Cheers

TUMBLEWEED konsole open tab warning on logout/shutdown?

In the last couple of days, after updating to this week's releases, I've noticed that konsole now pops up warnings about multiple open tabs when logging out or shutting down.

I'm trying to figure out whether it may be a bug in konsole, a change to its behavior, or an accidental setting change on my part.

Is anyone else on the latest Tumbleweed seeing this behavior?

PC = i3 met 4GB ram , LEAP 15.1 , KDE.

Code:

journalctl -xb | grep failed
krijg ik dingen te zien als
systemd-udevd failed exit code 99. Unit /dev-disk-by has failed.

TUMBLEWEED flash player plugin no longer works on firefox and chromium, solution?

I understand that the flash player from Adobe will stop working at the end of 2020, but it seems that EOL day starts one year earlier for openSUSE Tumbleweed -- it is no longer exiting/working all together on both firefox and chromium now. Any solution for this? I found the solution suggested on https://en.opensuse.org/Adobe_Flash_Player doesn't work either now. Since there're lot of websites still using flash payer plugin to play the videos at present time, I'd like to find some solution for this. Any suggestions?

LEAP 15.2 Leap 15.2 dual boot with windows 7

Dear all,

my suse leap 42.3 root partition broke and I decided to buy a Msata drive and install a fresh copy of LEAP 15.2. Since all other partitions on the old hard drive are functional, I was wondering if it is possible to clone the widnows partition with dd on the new msata and make it function in a dual boot with LEAP 15.2. I use windows very rarely and would like not to invest time in installing it once again.
In the past, I was always installing windows first and linux after. Therefore, I am not sure if the opposite is possible.

Thank you for your help

TUMBLEWEED GRUB Customizer

Hi

Anyone post their standard GRUB file to use as template? I used Grub Customizer a while back & did not realize this is a no no. I learned this on a Mint forum. I totally customizes GRUB without consent & can introduce weird bugs. Right now I hibernate & GRUB does not give me the option of elementary or openSUSE, but errors out & boots straight to Tumbleweed. I did not backup my GRUB.cfg & have traditionally used GRUB Customizer to edit OS entries. I will do it manually from now on.

Thx.

TUMBLEWEED The age old question zypper dup vs KDE update applet in Tumbleweed

$

So I'm running Tumbleweed with KDE/Plasma and for the longest time I saw a note in the KDE update applet to "run zypper dup". It's been a while since I've actually opened up the applet, but I've poked at it today and notice the update button is back. Has it been patched to do a zypper dup behind the scenes? (like suggested here: https://www.reddit.com/r/openSUSE/co...gekit/eyu0c0q/ ) I haven't been able to find any other mention/reference to this... but my search skills may be somewhat lacking.

LEAP 15.1 Monitor won't sleep

Hi,

I have installed a new GPU and had some problem with the driver, so I installed the amdgpu. Things work fairly ok, and the screen powers down after 10 min as I have set in the power section of th system setting, but when it comes to the login screen, the monitor gets dark, but powers up again after a minute and stays in the login screen. My thesis is that the gpu driver does not allow the monitor to power down.

Has anybody som experince regarding this?

LEAP 15.1 Scanning with a multifunction printer

$

I have a multifunction printer - HP Deskjet 2540. For those who don't know this printer it prints, scan and photocopies (a combination of the other two functions).
I have set up printing and that works fine.
The problem I have is that I don't know how to set up scanning for this printer. I did try running Scanlite (included with OpenSuse) but this said it couldn't find any SANE device. I checked the SANE website and, although there are many HP devices listed as being supported, all of those devices are sole-function scanners rather then multifunction printers.

At this point I am flummoxed. Can anyone give me some pointers as to how I can get my printer to scan.

Thank you

PS. The printer scans quite happily under Windows using the HP utility but this is a Windows-specific utility.

I'm on TW.
I want to try out transactional-update so I enable it with

Code:

Following this guide https://kubic.opensuse.org/blog/2018...tionalupdates/

I did not enable bootmgr.service
So I wait 24 hrs later until transactional-update start on 1:48 AM. But it suddenly reboot. I have no idea what make it reboot.

This is what I have:

LEAP 15.1 Handling automatic updates

Often when I run YaST2 Online Update, on the first try I get a message telling me that I should apply YaST updates before continuing. Is there a way to selectively update YaST components before others during the automatic update process, or will I have to just hope that I don't end up with a broken update system?
There ought to be a way to do this, since the update process depends on YaST being in a consistent state.

Hi

I stuffed up my sound system. ... by installed and deinstalled sound drivers. No all its left is the Pulseaudio server.

Other then a clean re-install , how could I reset (to factory settings so to speak) my sound system ?

The reason why I did the install/deinstall was to connect to a usb recording device. I suspect now , that I pluged in the device on USB 1 rather usb 2 ..nevermind.

thanks and best regards

Compile of PDCurses fails on Leap 15.1

I'm trying to compile PDCurses
HTML Code:

https://github.com/wmcbrine/PDCurses/
for use in building The Hessling Editor on my Leap 15.1 system. ./configure --enable-force-utf8 fails with this message:
Code:

which: no dpkg-architecture in (/home/leslie/bin/rexx:/home/leslie/bin/NetRexx:/home/leslie/bin:/home/leslie/.local/bin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/trinity/bin:/opt/trinity/lib64:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/lib64:/usr/local/lib)
from which I conclude that PDCurses thinks my system is Debian based!

The first line of output from ./configure is

Code:

configure: loading site script /usr/share/site/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
which surprises me; I would expect to see something about OpenSuSE in there instead of 'unknown'.

How can I get PDCurses to recognize my system as RPM-based?

My upgrade from 15.0 to 15.1 crashed (long story, short version: remove USB backup disk before upgrade!), so I did not do an upgrade, but a complete backup of my 'home' directory (in 3X) before doing an install. My question is: How to restore all mail data in 'Thunderbird 15.0' into 'Thunderbird 15.1'? Additional info: I have disabled 'KWallet' in 15.1 as well as in 15.0.
