LEAP 15.2 Leap 15.2 will not boot cloned disc with Clonezilla

$

OK, I just did a whole fresh install on a ssd of opensuse 15.2. Old Lenovo laptop, legacy type BIOS. Used disc encryption, BTRFS for system and XFS for HOME. Same way I ran 15.1.
First thing I noticed different was the boot. 15.1 said something about ms-dos on boot when waiting for the encryption password, now it says gpt there.

Anyway, cloned the ssd with Clonezilla, like I always have done. This time it did not ask me to clone the master boot record, like it has always done, which I thought was odd. So I put in the clone and all I get is blinking "/". OK, maybe a bad copy, so I went thru the process again, same result. Now this has ALWAYS worked with 15.1. So maybe Clonezilla is old, so I flashed the latest, and retried - same blinking "/". Not happy.

So I found some comments about Foxclone. Figure, what do I have to lose? Flashed it and cloned the drive. Booted the clone and it worked! OK what went wrong with Clonezilla? Or what changed with 15.2 from 15.1 that made it not work? Will I ever be able to use Clonezilla again? Is this because of my BIOS is not UEFI?

LEAP 15.2 some buttons do not work in firefox

$

I have just found that some things do not work in firefox:
the lock in the url bar which normally shows a information menu, the "shield" button showing information about encryption, the button at the right of the bar to show settings......

MozillaFirefox-80.0.1-lp152.5.1.x86_64 from mozilla repo

It is the same with a new profile and in safe mode.

I have downgraded to 78.2.0 from Update repo. I can't use my profile so I have to do a new profile. With this version and a new profile it does not work either.

Maybe it is not a problem of firefox but of something different?

best regards

LEAP 15.2 Boot issues GRUB2 vs Win10

I realize this may be a Windows 10 issue, but here goes.

I installed OpenSUSE LEAP 15.2 on my Dell Inspiron 7591 1TB SSD after using GParted to make space for it. GRUB2 did a good job booting the system (which has Secure Boot disabled in BIOS), so all seemed good.

Suddenly, possibly after a Windows update, GRUB2 would not load. I can boot off the install media and select More > Boot System, etc, and OpenSUSE isn't damaged. I've tried reinstalling GRUB2 like a dozen times. I've tried changing parameters by turning secure boot and trusted boot support on and off, telling update-bootloader to --reinit and write over files, looked around under /etc and various subfolders for any clue as to why it's doing this, but nothing seems to work.

The system uses /dev/nvme0n1 as the hard drive device name, with (weird) my MicroSD slot as sda. I made it a point to remove the MicroSD any time I try to reinstall Grub2 for fear it might think to use sda. Granted, I didn't own this MicroSD when I installed OpenSUSE LEAP 15.2, so I don't think it's getting "confused" by this device existing....

I have told Windows to boot into UEFI menu (which results in nothing happening on reboot). I have gone into the system BIOS and, sure enough, SecureBoot isn't even enabled.

I've tried installing GRUB2 with secure and trusted boot off, etc. I've basically "Christmas-treed" all the options on and off trying to reinstall GRUB2, to no avail.

I'm glad it boots Windows 10, because I need that for graduate school, but as we all know, OpenSUSE is better ;)

Does anyone know if there are advanced options in Windows or special flags in GRUB2 that I can use to force GRUB2 to not get "taken over" by Windows 10?

Also, GRUB2 has worked before, but I recall the warning message in the OpenSUSE installer about the EFI partition not being 256MB or whatever it says. Does that matter? Do I really need to boot back into GParted and move partitions around to resize EFI to be 256MB or higher? It's currently 150MB, but since GRUB2 has worked before, I would tend to believe that's not an issue, but am I wrong?

TUMBLEWEED NVIDIA Drivers Correct Installation Check

Pardon me for being so lost, but I dunno if I'm actually using the proprietary NVIDIA drivers or not and it also seems the desktop is using Intel hardware, how to check please?

Thank you.

TUMBLEWEED xhost + required to launch app from Plasma menu since last Tumbleweed update

$

Hello,

I had a heavy Tumbleweed update (300+) and since then, I cannot launch applications from the menu anymore:
  • if I press the menu shortcut key and type the first letters to narrow down to any app, then press Enter, I briefly see the bouncing icon as before, but the application is not launched
  • if I navigate in the menu with the mouse, same outcome
  • if I use the KRunner (Alt-F2), I can launch applications from there

After some research and tests, I found out that "xhost +" was a (bad) work-around. From the moment I disable access control to the screen, the menu works again.

Does it mean that now, applications are launched differently, with an impact on the access control?
Any idea if something is wrong, and how to solve the problem cleanly (other than adding "xhost +" to any startup script)?

Thanks,
