LEAP 15.2 amdgpu simd exception in 15.2

Hi folks,

Ever since configuring a new desktop machine with a Ryzen 3400g and opensuse 15.2,
I've been plagued with system crashes for which rebooting is the only solution I've really
found. It is possible to ssh into the machine from elsewhere, but the jobs that were running
have gone idle and even killing the idle processes doesn't unhang the machine. Typically
the problem occurs while running firefox, often with more than one tab open. A guarantee
of hitting it within a few seconds is to start up a parallel job (something compiled with
gcc that has some openmp loops in it), and then start up firefox.

I have looked in /var/log/messages, and the signature of the crash appears to be this:

Code:

googling on some of the strings in the outputput above, leads me to
threads like this one:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1154

where I read information that indicates that my problem has something to do with some exception masking inconsistancy (or something like that).
It also seems to indicate that the fixes for the problem (if it is indeed the same one) appear in linux 5.8 or so. Not being terribly deep in kernel
patching/hacking/substitution, I'm not in a position to swap out kernels to try such myself however.

So my question are these:

1) am I right in my diagnosis that my problem is likely the same one as in the referenced thread?
2) If so, are the patches involved, scheduled for (already in?) the update stream for opensuse 15.2? How would
I know whether my OS has had them applied?
3) If not, is this error signature familiar to anyone, and does it have a fix that I can try out on my machine?

Thanks,

LEAP 15.2 Permanent noise from speaker (just today)

Hi everyone,

Leap 15.2 has been working flawlessly the past few weeks ever since I've installed it on my notebook. I've not had this issue with 15.1 neither.

But today (possibly after some updates?) the speaker emits a constant and loud noise. If I plug in headphones, the sound gets transmitted to these, too. All I can do for now is mute audio altogether as it is quite bothersome. The noise appears first when booting openSuse, so after loading the driver it seems.

Any way to troubleshoot the issue?

Thanks.

I can connect fine and open webpages like youtube, twitter, etc. but i run into an issue when i load up steam, battlenet, etc. all these gaming servers are not connecting. i am unable to connect to their online server. for troubleshooting i used my phone's hotspot to connect and it worked fine so i know its an issue with my wifi, or at least that's where i think the problem is nested. any tips? i am in dire need of some gaming.

TUMBLEWEED Anordung der Desktop Icons

Hallo zusammen,

LEAP 15.2 user of qemu-system-x86 (libvirt)

On openSUSE the user "qemu" is the default user of the process "qemu-system-x86" when using libvirt, on Debian it's "libvirt-qemu".

I can change it in qemu.conf e.g. "user = root".

But where is this default "qemu" or "libvirt-qemu" specified, it's not in qemu.conf or any other. Been searching everything in /etc/*

I am using Akregator on Frameworks 5.80.0 and Qt5.15.2. I have several feeds in which the article listings have completely disappeared. When I click on fetch feeds, nothing is fetched. Those which have articles listed have them from several months back, but no new ones. Is there a way to keep my feeds and have them start refreshing again?

TUMBLEWEED TUMBLEWEED: open-vm-tools NOT resizing screen

Hello, this is my first post here. I have been trying to tweak the VMWare tools configuration such that I can resize my OpenSuse tumbleweed VM by dragging the corner of the guest window, but I have been unsuccessful so far.

My VM is running this:
Code:

$ rpm -qa | grep open-vm
open-vm-tools-11.2.5-1.4.x86_64
open-vm-tools-desktop-11.2.5-1.4.x86_64
$ rpm -qa | grep libvmtoo
libvmtools0-11.2.5-1.4.x86_64

I managed to overcome the same problem with these in Arch Linux, by installing the package xf86-video-vmware, which is the vmware SVGA video driver, but it does not seem to fix things in Tumbleweed.

Code:

sudo zypper se xf86-video-vmware
Loading repository data...
Reading installed packages...

S  | Name              | Summary                                      | Type
---+-------------------+-----------------------------------------------+--------
i+ | xf86-video-vmware | VMware SVGA video driver for the Xorg X ser-> | package
pierre@pj-mbp-suse-tw-1:~> rpm -ql xf86-video-vmware
/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers
/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/vmware_drv.so
/usr/share/doc/packages/xf86-video-vmware
/usr/share/doc/packages/xf86-video-vmware/COPYING
/usr/share/doc/packages/xf86-video-vmware/ChangeLog
/usr/share/doc/packages/xf86-video-vmware/README
/usr/share/man/man4/vmware.4.gz

So, I guess I will need to do more fiddling with X.Org, but if anyone has done this already I would appreciate if you can share the fastpath solution :).

Leap 15.2 Amd Radeon hd7700... Peter

wxpython using pyenv virtual environment

$

I'm posting here because the pyenv issue I'm having appears to be an issue with OpenSuSE only.

I posted a few years back about getting wxGlade to work. I'm getting back to my project that uses wxGlade for the GUI development. Everything is working on the system python v3.6.12.

I thought it would be nice to be able to develop the GUI in a different python version if I'm targeting the python application at a different python version. While I have pyenv and pyenv virtualenv working for different versions of python there is a problem specific to wxpython. The problem is that when using pip install or pip wheel to create the whl file for wxpython it fails.

I don't understand what's going on. Someone said that the wx.pth file should link to the system installed wx. Since I'm trying to use a wxpython compiled for something other than python v3.6.12 (i.e. I'm trying to compile for v3.8.6) I don't believe this will work.

I read somewhere else that while compiling wxpython in the virtual environment the compiler is still trying to use the wx from the system python. The way I believe that's happening is that pip is creating tmp directories but the PATH variable isn't updated with the tmp directory during the process. Therefore, the process is defaulting back to /usr/lib64/wx. The tmp directories have different names each time pip wheel is run. I tried changing LD_LIBRARY_PATH in the pyenv environment to see if that would help. It didn't but I don't know if I set the path correctly. I suspect it would need to be the tmp directory.

Does any of that sound familiar?

Is there a way to use pyenv, install a virtual environment that uses python v3.8.6 and successfully compile wxpython for that python version and make the wx library available within the virtual environment?

Is there a shorter way to do this using input and output redirection? I can't get this work without using a temporary file.

Code:

          view_file_temp=$(mktemp)
          scanvirus "${View_Menu_Parms[Menu_Select]}" > "$view_file_temp"
          kdialog --textbox "$view_file_temp"
          rm "$view_file_temp"

TUMBLEWEED Update cycle term of Firefox

Hi
One Q

How many times a month does Firefox update for tumbleweed?
When will they update to Firefox 87?

LEAP 15.2 Installed gnome-extensions are not working after upgrading Leap-15.1 to 15.2.

$

Hi all,

After upgrading I am facing the following issues:
1.After the above upgradation, gnome-extensions are not working. Earlier I had a bottom panel with all my favorite icons and also the tray included in that on the right corner. After upgrading all those extensions do not work. most of the new gnome extensions on their website with regard to the Bottom Panel also do not work.

2. The Desktop icons are spread out occupying almost the whole Desktop. In spite of selecting small size, these cannot be compacted because of a shadow limit around them.

guidance with regard to the 'bottom panel' and Desktop icons would be most welcome.

Thanks & Regards,

RSP
