LEAP 15.1 Btrfs error after Nvidia update

$

I cannot login to my system. There is btrfs error.
Luckily I have got Tumbleweed installed too. There is a message from Partitioner in Tumbleewed:

mount: /tmp/libstorage-RNwLA9/tmp-mount-KCMRn5: can't read superblock on /dev/sda3.
error code 32

Sda 3 is my system partition on Leap 15.1
Snapshot is not working on Leap 15.1.

There is information on black screen when I am trying to logging to Leap 15.1:
btrfs error device sda3 : parent transid verify failed on138723311616 wanted 178758 found 178516
btrfs error device sda3 open_ctree failed

What can I do with that problem?

Above is from the problem Gigabyte Kaby Lake PC. I order to migrate the boot device from GPT 256G M.2 SATA stick to a GPT 120G M.2 NVME stick, I did a three way swap, as I wanted to preserve the content of both M.2 devices. Only about the first 40% of the 256G was in use, so I cloned the 256G to a 160G SATA HD, then cloned from the 120G to the 256G, then from the 160G to the 120G.

Having done this, the secondary partition tables on the smaller devices disappeared, while that of the larger became invalid. Consequently, fdisk, parted and apparently the kernel don't see any partitions. Grub does, and so does my partitioner (DFSee), and apparently so do the disk drivers somehow. I was able to boot into Grub, select TW on nvme0n1p7, and start to boot, but init failed when came time to mount nvme0n1p7 on /. I had apparently forgotten a crucial prerequisite to the changeover - rebuild initrds with nvme support.

So, I wiped the 120G, recreated the partition structure on it, then cloned partition by partition from the 160G. I'm guession the resulting PARTUUID changes apparently disabled the UEFI system from operating as required. The ESP on the 120G is no longer recognized by the BIOS. I tried reordering boot order to start with opensusetw using efibootmgr -o, but it doesn't stick, as you can see from Boot0005 listed first.

The following are the UUIDs from the 160G, carryovers from the 256G to 160G cloning:
Code:

Partition Label  : K25P01ESP    Uuid : {5b2ae91e-e722-4df5-8b9f-93e611fc27ba} # old sdc1
Partition Label  : k25p07stw    Uuid : {da6a99d3-fb30-d242-a8a2-4d5a32e2aef4} # old sdc7

Below is from my Asus Kaby Lake PC, which is configured very little differently from the Gigabyte, exactly the same layout through the first 12 partitions. Not too many weeks ago I successfully migrated it from standard SATA SSD to NVME, but used no off-sized intermediary steps.
Code:

I see quite a bit of difference between the Boot0000s on the two PCs. It seems obvious that at least part of the trouble is the Boot0000 entry on the Gigabyte is now invalid. I'm hoping that the entirety of the problem, and that the next step forward would be to delete Boot0000 and create a new one.

Any thoughts on my assessment? Anything I've missed that I should have or could have done, or something else I should do first? Is there some likelihood that the UEFI BIOS is reacting badly because the ESP was partitioned as FAT16, so I should recreate the ESP as FAT32? I'm asking these few questions out of fear of making the situation worse instead of better, and blowing away a lot more time.

Also I'm trying to do this without any help from YaST, so that I can better understand how UEFI works, and how to fix it if it breaks without YaST being available..

LEAP 15.1 Leap 15.1 will not install successfully on a Gigabyte B365M-H mobo

This is a new PC, with no previous OS. The processor is an Intel 9400 2.9 ghx core i5.

The Leap 15.1 DVD installer fails spasmodically. Sometime it freezes, with a couple of dying mouse twitches. Sometimes it comes up with a red error notice, the options following this become bogged down and everything stops.

If it gets to the end and something has been installed, either it will fail before reaching the login, or it will declare the password invalid. On the command line I can do a root login with that password, but do not know what to try or to look for. ls shows: .bash_history, .cache, .gnupg, bin, inst-sys
cd .. takes me to /, where there are what looks like the full set of directories.

When the installed Leap fails before the login, a number of lines are shown, such as:

Code:

ACPI BIOS Error (bug) Failure looking up [_\SB.PCIO.SAT0.PRT3._GTF.DSSP], AE_NOT_FOUND

(20170303/PSARGS-330) \_SB.PCIO.SAT0.PRT3._GTF

linux-0rc6 login:

(I log in)

Code:

I have updated the BIOS to F4A, and tried a number of mods, disabling Fast Boot, disabling and enabling CSM, and disabling the Network Stack.

I found a post that suggested to me that disabling IOAPIC 24-119 Entries might work, but it didn’t.
Another post suggested that Tumbleweed might install, but it failed while trying, unsuccessfully, to find my WiFi. The Leap installer can find my WiFi, but the modem light never registers a connection.

I also tried installing Netrunner, which rapidly failed with pages of reports like:

Code:

[ 106.002720] pcieport 0000:00:1c.7: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected. type=Physical Layer, (Receiver ID)

Where do I go from here?

TUMBLEWEED nvidia repo signature verification failed

Forgive me if this is posted elsewhere, I did attempt to search the forums for this and did not see anything. Upon updating, I am getting the following message:

HTML Code:

Note: Signing data enables the recipient to verify that no modifications occurred after the data

and in extreme cases even to a system compromise.

Note: File 'repomd.xml' is the repositories master index file. It ensures the integrity of the
    whole repo.

Warning: This file was modified after it has been signed. This may have been a malicious change,
so it might not be trustworthy anymore! You should not continue unless you know it's safe.

Signature verification failed for file 'repomd.xml' from repository 'nVidia Graphics Drivers'. Continue? [yes/no] (no):

A simple google search suggested that it may reconcile itself with time, so I waited 24 hours, and it is the same. Not sure how to proceed at this point. Is it safe to say yes and proceed with update? Do I need to do something to make the repo happy again? Thanks in advance.

LEAP 15.1 Hang during boot: "A start job is running for dev-disk-by..."

Hi all,

I recently bought an external USB harddrive, a Samsung T5.
I used Yast partioner to format the partition with ext4 and I selected to encrypt it.
I did not select to mount it. Then it asked me for a new password and everything went well.

The only problem now is that, if the USB harddrive is not connected to the pc, the pc hangs for 90 seconds with the message:

"A start job is running for dev-disk-by..."

After that it continues to boot and everything seems to work fine.

My question is how do I get rid of this delay?

The content of /etc/fstab:

Code:

UUID=fa4c4178-f3a2-42b2-ace2-2a4f9279b14d  /      ext4  acl,user_xattr  0  1
UUID=d8ccfe52-b211-499e-b54a-8bab811e8e01  /data  ext4  defaults        0  2

which is correct, these are the internal harddrives, not the external one.

This is part of the output of sudo journalctl:

LEAP 15.1 Guest Additions vs. Guest Tools

I am running virtualbox on openSuSE Leap 15.1 as host with Windows 7 Pro as the guest in the virtual machine. In the past, I've always installed the corresponding version of guest additions, and have done so recently.

In addition to the package virtualbox and associated kernel modules and Qt GUI, YaST also lists the following packages:

virtualbox-guest-tools
virtualbox-guest-x11
virtualbox-guest-kmp-default

Although the accompanying information suggests that these are used by the virtual machine, I have not been able to locate a discussion in the SuSE documentation, the virtual box manual, or the forums (this one as well as the virtualbox forum) that discuss their specific roles. Does the installation of the Guest Additions iso render these packages redundant? See OrsoBruno's post#5 at https://forums.opensuse.org/showthre...00#post2775400.

The zypper tutorial has dissapeared. Help!

I'm a Linux noob, so i decided to try and be self-sufficient and read the zypper tutorial. I was reading it some weeks ago and got through about 1/4 of it. Yesterday I wanted to continue, only to find that the page now issues a 404 NOT FOUND.

Here's the page that links to it: https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Zypper
Under """General Information""", click """Official tutorial""" to take you to the page where it once was.

Here's the link to the missing tutorial: https://doc.opensuse.org/documentati...cha.sw_cl.html

Does anybody know what happened? will it be put back up? I was really making progress. I had just started reading about "zypper patch" and "zypper update", and was enjoying the tutorial. Now its gone, and I wasn't even half-way through it >:( . What can I do? are there any other good tutorials out there, is all hope lost? Any ideas on how I can learn zypper? And most importantly, does anyone know what happened to this lengthy tutorial?

LEAP 15.1 init level 3 login issues

All,

I am not sure if this issue has been discussed in the past (searches turned up zero relevant hits) so here goes. I am able to login as both root and a typical user when the system starts up at run level 5, however, I can't when the system fires up at either level 1 or 3. For both users, I always get invalid password errors. See https://pasteboard.co/IP1Sn14.jpg. Currently I am investigating in a VM, but the host also experiences the same issues. If this has been discussed, I do apologize and a link to the resolution would be appreciated.

Chrome developer tools net::ERR_CONTENT_LENGTH_MISMATCH 200 (OK)

access.log on server shows request and status 200 and length even for longer files

LEAP 15.1 Can't start LDAP Filter in Yast2 User Management

Hi,
I'm setting up a new server and again I'm having problems with setting up LDAP (389-ds).

I can see that openSUSE LDAP documentation has changed since last time I was configuring 389-ds (https://doc.opensuse.org/documentati...server-install) and there is also a section about configuring 389-ds on openSUSE in the official 389-ds documentation (which is more or less the same). I was hoping that this time it would go without any problems but it didn't. The tools mentioned in both documentations are not available in openSUSE when installing 389-ds from official repositories. To get them I had to install 389-ds from experimental repository (build.opensuse.org/network:ldap).

Anyway, I finally managed to set the service up but now I can't access LDAP users and groups using Yast2 Users and groups module. When I try to set LDAP filter there, there is no LDAP server address - it should be "localhost:389" I think but it is just ":389". I think that's the reason I can't login with my Directory Manager credentials.

LDAP Filter window:

After trying to login:

And here are some output that were asked for in an old post from 2016:
Code:

filip@server:~> hostname
server
filip@server:~> echo $HOSTNAME

LEAP 15.1 Error while booting _without_ certain usb stick

:dont-know:

openSuse is installed on a fixed disk.

I tried to boot from an USB stick to update the bios, but however, did not work.

Removed usb stick, changed in bios boot priority to the fixed disk as first priority and booted openSuse. The boot process runs, mounts /home, but afterwards tries to mount the usb stick, which isn't there. Boot messages say, something like xxx-process (device and number, seems the USB stick) running and after 1 minute and 30 seconds boot stops with an error. I can type the root pw then and then startx and KDE runs.

If I boot with this usb stick inserted (boot from fixed disk, not from USB!), all is well, I can login as user.

How do I get rid of the idea of my sytem to need this usb stick?

Regards,

Alexander

LEAP 15.1 How to produce USB stick for Bios update or new install of OS today?

Hi!

In May I'd like to install openSuse Leap 15.2 and my notebook (Thinkpad T 450s) has no cd drive. So I need to put an installation medium on an USB stick.

Today I updated the BIOS of the said notebook and it was a hassle to get an USB stick with a working image on it.

  • Imagewriter refused to write the image "jbdujxy.iso" on the USB stick for unknown reasons.
  • There is no official genisoimage (including geteltorito) package on software.opensuse.org

So how am I supposed to produce an USB stick for a new installation or a BIOS update these days?

Or did I miss something?

Regards,

Alexander
