Hello
My mdadm (Raid 5) fails and I was not able to recover it.
I have an old version but was working fine with no issues
I have tried to recover it with mdadm --create --assume-clean with no success.
Now I'm getting
mdadm -D /dev/md0
mdadm: cannot open /dev/md0: No such file or directory

cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [linear]
unused devices: <none>

like de MDADM device doesn't exist

VERSION
mdadm --version
mdadm - v3.0.3

If I do an mdadm --examine for each disk this is the output

cat raid.status

TUMBLEWEED Thermal monitor plasmoid

I kept one of these for my cpu and one for my gpu on my desktop for sometime when suddenly one day a while back they were gone. It is still in the list of available plasmoids but there is no icon for it displayed there. If I try to replace it on the desktop it just drags an empty silouhette which disappears when I release the mouse and no plasmoid appears.

It would be nice to be able to get it working again.

Hi,

I checked in on the disk space and see it's nearly full. I have run df -Th and the results are:

I thought the 40gig was enough for my installation, but this is probably not right. I see the / directory is 93 % full, but I can't see which folder uses all the space. Can anybody give me a clue how to find out what I should do to slim down the space used, if possible. I have a possibility to move some files in the home directory to another disk, but my prefered action is to get rid of excessive files in the root directory.

Regards

the browser used, and I have installed all that are available.
They say to use Chrome or Firefox.
Nope! won't play and the versions of Chrome and Firefox are latest versions of both compared to what is installed in windows.

I have changed user agent strings in all of them with no luck. Even change them to the user agent strings in the windows versions of Chrome and Firefox.

Oddly enough, the spam videos prior to the actual program video play fine on some browsers, and not at all on others.

Any ideas of what I am doing wrong, or additions that may help?

LEAP 15.1 Need to upgrade mate-terminal to >= 1.20.1

$

I've stumbled across a serious (IMO) bug in the mate-terminal 1.20.0 version that's current in Leap 15.1. Briefly, each and every keypress in a mate-terminal sends a dbus message which can be seen via:
Code:

$ dbus-monitor
method call time=1578634085.278533 sender=:1.245 -> destination=org.freedesktop.DBus serial=1731 path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=AddMatch
  string "type='signal',interface='ca.desrt.dconf.Writer',path='/ca/desrt/dconf/Writer/user',arg0path='/org/mate/terminal/global/'"
method return time=1578634085.278565 sender=org.freedesktop.DBus -> destination=:1.245 serial=1698 reply_serial=1731

That's bad enough (from CPU load and possibly security standpoints), but note the "serial" and "reply_serial" fields above. They increment at every keypress, and when they pass the following limit:
Code:

$ fgrep max_replies /usr/share/dbus-1/session.conf
  <limit name="max_match_rules_per_connection">50000</limit>

then journalctl gets spammed (again, one entry for every keypress) with:
Code:

Jan 08 14:06:09 hostname dbus-daemon[2147]: [session uid=500 pid=2147] Connection ":1.14" is not allowed to add more match rules (increase limits in configuration file if required; max_match_rules_per_connection=50000)
This bug was fixed in June 2018, reportedly in the 1.20.1 release. See https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-terminal/pull/241. I've tried to build the latest codebase (I believe 1.23.0) from source as a test, but as is often the case with complex application dependencies I've run into snags.The autogen.sh script fails with:
Code:

configure: error: Package requirements (vte-2.91 >= 0.46
  glib-2.0 >= 2.50.0
  gthread-2.0
  gio-2.0 >= 2.50.0
  gtk+-3.0 >= 3.22.0
  dconf >= 0.13.4
  x11) were not met:

This despite the fact that YaST shows I have:
Code:

package                version
-------                -------
libvte-2_91-0          0.50-2
glib-2_0-0              2.54.3
libgthread-2_0-0        2.54-3
libgio-2_0-0            2.54.3
gtk+-3                  <nothing in repos>
dconf                  0.26.1
x11                    <libX11*, but no plain x11>

Should I file this as a bug on bugzilla? Hopefully for Leap 15.1, but would hate to see it continue into 15.2. I tried searching on bugzilla but got no results (not "Zarro Boogs found" -- just nothing happens on entering "mate-terminal" and clicking "Search". The site behaves very strangely on Firefox -- the "Top 100" list doesn't even show up -- and not much better on Chromium).

Alternately, any suggestions on building the source welcome. Or confirmation of the problem on 15.1. Or anything. ;) The only workaround I have is to log out, or at least kill all mate-terminals, before reaching the 50,000 keypress limit (which I hit every few days). This is because D-Bus has the wonderful "feature":
Code:

# systemctl restart dbus
Failed to restart dbus.service: Operation refused, unit dbus.service may be requested by dependency only (it is configured to refuse manual start/stop).
See system logs and 'systemctl status dbus.service' for details.

Note the same/similar failure happens when trying to stop (and then restart) dbus in YaST -> Services Manager.

LEAP 15.1 Internet Connection not working

I've just installed openSUSE Leap 15 for the first time. Unfortunately I'm unable to get my internet connection working.

I was searching around in the forums and it seems like other people have the exact same problem and no solution was reached there :question:

What I've done:

connected an ethernet cable, set the connection to Dynamic address

deleted /etc/resolv.conf and rebooted
when that didn't work, tried

Code:

netconfig update -f
to no avail.

some recommended comments and their outputs:

Code:

ping -c1 forums.opensuse.org
ping: forums.opensuse.org: Name or service not known

Code:

ping -c1 192.168.0.1
connect: Network is unreachable

Code:

Code:

ip route

The computer is a self built desktop, AMD Ryzen 5 processor and MSI motherboard, so not exactly exotic hardware. In Ubuntu everything worked out of the box.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

Happy New Year, 2020 to everyone.

I am witnessing random reboots, freezes while opening either Firefox, Falkon, Seamonkey or Tor-Browser under moderate load. I am using Cinnamon DE at present and have witnessed same behavior while using LXDE, IceWM.

I see some errors in /var/log/warn -

I don't experience these issues in KDE on same machine, it runs smooth with many resource intensive applications such as clamd, amavisd-new, fail2ban, apache2, nginx, redis, grafana, influx, telegraf, prometheus, promtail, netdata, cockpit, zeek, ntopng, suricata, evebox, custom conntrack applications, etc and 2-3 browsers open at the same time.

Unfortunately, coredumpctl doesn't catch this. Please let me know how to investigate this and fix it.

Thanks.

LEAP 15.1 Doesn't login in no one desktop manager

Good afternoon. I've installed nvidia g05 video driver (I had g04 installed before) from the community repos, but now when i try to login in any desktop session, the screen become black and go back to the login screen, not to the desktop. I tried 2 things:

- press ctrl+alt+f1, and re-installed g04 drivers. Nothing changed.
- tried to restore from a snapshot, but it doesn't arrive to the login screen, because i see only a violet screen.

Just another thing: if i'm on login screen, even if i don't do anything, the screen become black for 2 seconds and go back to the login screen.

Any ideas?

After the Dell logo is displayed, during Tumbleweed startup, I have a long list of kernel errors of the type:

ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Failure creating named object [\_SB.PCI0.XHC.RHUB.HS01._UPC], AE_ALREADY_EXISTS (20190703/dswload2-323)
ACPI Error: AE_ALREADY_EXISTS, During name lookup/catalog (20190703/psobject-220)

ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Failure creating named object [\_SB.PCI0.XHC.RHUB.SS10._PLD], AE_ALREADY_EXISTS (20190703/dswload2-323)
ACPI Error: AE_ALREADY_EXISTS, During name lookup/catalog (20190703/psobject-220)

After suspension (sleep or hibernation) the computer is unable to resume, and I have to use hard shutdown, pressing the power button, to restart.
I installed the last firmware from DELL (BIOS 1.14.0), and the system is up to date.

TUMBLEWEED Roolback to a prevoius version of TW

Hi,
I recently started my first installation of TW because LEap 15.1 (kernel 4) doesn't support WiFi card.
Tuning up of TW takes some hours but everything work(ed) fine until this evening.
I upgraded (zypper dup) from 20200101 (kernel 5.3) to 20200108 (kernel 5.4) and two big issues 'freeze' me :
- vmware player doesn't compile anymore;
- no sound card is detected;

I googled a little and I understand that the solution for vmware (if it works) is not so easy for my knowledge so I decide that it's better to return back to TW version 20200101.
So my question is : how can I return to previous version (and kernel 5.3) ?

TUMBLEWEED Partitions in fstab immediately unmounting

Have just installed Tumbleweed, and tryig to mount a number of partitions from fstab on boot, and it appears they are mounting, but then immediately unmount.
Root partition is BTRFS, and others are Ext3/NTFS.
Have found a couple of 'mentions' of this happening, but no reasons/solutions.
Thanks.

TUMBLEWEED No network devices found after kernel update

Hi everyone,
After I did an upgrade today (kernel is now 5.4.7), I lost all my network devices (ethernet and wifi). Fortunately, using the older kernel, at least wifi works, so I can post relevant information here. My wireless card is a Qualcomm Atheros card (kernel module ath10k_pci is loaded). For some reason, I cannot get info on my ethernet card anymore (seems it is not detected). With the newer kernel, only the loopback device is listed. I noticed that with the last upgrade, some things changed - apparently various firmware components which AFAIK where bundled in one single package are now split into separate packages. Maybe I'm missing packages? Here is the list of installed firmware packages after a quick zypper se -i firmware:

Code:

Or maybe I'm just missing some kernel modules? But how to find out? Any help is really appreciated here.

The router does not even see a request for an IP.

Switching to Wicked did not help. Rebooting to old 5.3 kernel and network is back. Also if I add a RJ45-USB adapter, networking is working as expected...

Is there a known bug with Intel networkadapters in 5.4? (didn't look for other changes comming in with the kernel updates, some 200 packages being updated...).

Hi all,

after distribution upgrade from 15.0 to 15.1 - which itself went ok without any error messages - the system fails to boot.
The computer uses EFI, uses LVM and an nvme-SSD for the root partition.
The boot process hangs after displaying the following information:
Code:

[OK] Started udev Coldplug all Devices.
    Starting dracut initqueue hook...
    Starting Show Plymouth Boot Scree...
[OK] Reached target System Initialization.

Sometimes the last line ("System Initialization") is missing, if that I the case sometimes "dracut initqueue" and "Show Plymouth" change their positions.
There is no timeout, the system does not go into emergency mode.

The LEAP 15.1 rescue system boots successful, and in that case the complete LVM configuration is detected w/o issues; I can mount the different partitions. Doing so, I recreated the initramfs, however w/o success.

Then, I remembered that I had boot issues after upgrading from 42.3 to 15.0 about one year ago, see this thread. The solution was to remove the modules "nvme_core" and "nvme" from the initramfs, without really knowing why this had helped. So I added these modules again, recreated initramfs, however no change - keeps hanging.

So any Ideas what goes wrong here and what I can do :question:?

Thanx in advance, Sven
