LEAP 15.1 Arctis 7 - pulseadio

$

I am trying to set up my Steelseries arctis 7 headset
This has two audio streams (a mono one for chat, and a stereo one for most uses)

The packaged pulseaudio in Leap 15.1 is version 11
A new version of pulseaudio (13) is now available
From version 12, the arctis 7 has been supported out of the box.
Version 13 is included in tumbleweed (and also upcoming Leap 15.2)

I would ideally like to upgrade to pulseaudio 13. Is this possible without upgrading my whole installation to tumbleweed?
There are some workarounds to use pulseaudio 11 with the arctis 7, but it seems counter intuitive when a newer version supports the feature I need.

OTHER VERSION Connecting to Samba Shares from Server 2016

I have recently upgraded a VM from SLES 12 SP3 to SLES 15 SP1.

I have enabled samba shares and disabled the firewall.

I have then created a shared folder.

When opening File Explorer from a 2016 Server VM on the same vLAN I am unable to browse to the share. \\SERVER\Share

I have read through several threads on this forum and other forums to no avail. I have replicated the content of the smb.conf file from a VM that works to no avail either.

I can both ping the IP and hostname of the Linux server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

LEAP 15.1 wicked POST_UP_SCRIPT wird nicht ausgeführt

Hallo,

ich möchte, daß ethtool das Netzwerkinterface konfiguriert, sobald das Interface aktiv ist. Leider gelingt mir das nicht. Folgendes ist konfiguriert.

Code:

cat /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0
...
POST_UP_SCRIPT="compat:suse:ethtool.sh"

Code:

cat /etc/sysconfig/network/scripts/ethtool.sh
#!/bin/bash
/usr/sbin/ethtool -K eth0 lro on

Wenn ich wicked ifdown eth0; wicked ifup eth0 aufrufe, wird das Skript ausgeführt. Wenn ich das System allerdings neu starte, dann habe ich:
# ethtool -k eth0|grep large
large-receive-offload: off

Wie bekomme ich das Skript beim Start des Sytems ausgeführt, bzw. kann verifizieren warum das Skript nicht ausgeführt wird?

Vielen Dank!
garblixa

BTRFS maintenance on SSD

$

I wrote the following script to perform the recommended maintenance on Tumbleweed with btrfs running on a SSD. This is for a couple new installs so I don't have much history of running it.

I decided to go for the manual route since I can follow what's going on. It runs in about 25 sec here, so not much of a problem, at least until the drive goes way past the current 6% usage. Running once a fortnight seems a good schedule, and I can review everything in a single place.

Another relevant aspect is that individual tasks won't interfere with each other, nor with a send/receive.

Currently it handles a single btrfs file system, but I plan on supporting any additional ones.

Code:

#!/bin/bash

COLOR1='\033[0;33m'
COLOR2='\033[0;34m'
NC='\033[0m'

printf "${COLOR1}> Disk state before maintenance${NC}\n\n"
btrfs filesystem usage /
printf "\n"

printf "${COLOR1}> Cleaning old snapshots${NC}\n\n"
/usr/lib/snapper/systemd-helper --cleanup
printf "\n"

printf "${COLOR1}> Checking data integrity${NC}\n\n"
btrfs scrub start -BR /
printf "\n"

printf "${COLOR1}> Compacting data blocks${NC}\n\n"
btrfs balance start --verbose -dusage=5 /
printf "\n"

printf "${COLOR1}> Discarding unused blocks${NC}\n\n"
fstrim --fstab --verbose
printf "\n"

printf "${COLOR1}> Disk state after maintenance${NC}\n\n"
btrfs filesystem usage /
printf "\n"

printf "${COLOR1}> S.M.A.R.T.${NC}\n\n"
smartctl --scan | awk '{ print $1 } ' | sort | xargs -n1 -I {} sh -c 'printf "${COLOR2}>> {}${NC}\n\n" && smartctl -a {}'
printf "\n"

LEAP 15.1 "xsession: login for is disabled" on Active Directory

Fairly novice with Linux here, I managed to enter a Windows Server with Samba on Leap 15.0. After Upgrading to 15.1, this error "xsession: login for <user> is disabled" started appearing when attempting to login with domain users. I wasn't able to find an answer online, at least one that I could comprehend.

I can still login with domain users through the terminal just fine.

This might not be enough information so if more is needed, I will happily provide!

Thanks in advance.

LEAP 15.1 OpenSuSE Leap 15.1 Multi-monitor Setup

$

I have been running multi-monitors on OpenSuSE for quite awhile but have run
across a scenario that I am finding perplexing. I know this has to be simple
but it is thwarting my efforts.

Scenario:

OpenSuSE 15.1 Leap, all latest updates. nVidia proprietary driver, 390.132.
2xViewsonic TD2220's running at 1920x1080 respectively.

Issue:

I want to make these two monitors into 1 desktop at 3840x1080.

Presently it is seen as X Screen 0 as 3840x1080 but it is carved into two
separate desktops each with its own settings, wallpapers etc. No amount
of tweaking has produced the desired output.

Any ideas welcome.

Lost control of some OBS Home Projects

Hi, I don't exactly know if this is the right place to ask for help regarding the service but sometime ago I managed to accidentally remove myself from some of my home projects and now I can't delete or modify any of them.
I can still create subprojects but I really wanted to regain control of the main one, I'm guessing I did this back there in the end of 2018.

LEAP 15.1 VPN basic information on how to use with apps

Hello. I subscribe to a email service. I just downloaded the command line VPN app for this service. I can figure it out given time, such as account setup and login.

I need basic info on how to use this VPN service with firefox and other software. I have no experience working with VPNs. This is all new.

Are they something like encrypted network connections like SSL? Even SSL, I have some understanding of it. ??

LEAP 15.2 Homebank is out of date

Homebank's latest version is 5.3.2 at the time of writing this, in Tumbleweed it's still at 5.2.6, and in the Leap 15.2 pre-release it's at 5.1.8, even Debian stable is beyond that with 5.2.2.

LEAP 15.1 Windows 10 update problem

$

Hi there!
I have a dual boot system: openSuse 15.1 (KDE Plasma desktop) on /dev/sda, and Windows 10 on /dev/sdb.
Every time Windows 10 is updated, I can't restart in openSuse if I don't restart in Windows 10 first.
This does not happen with updates from other operating systems such as Winsows7.
Can someone tell me why this happens and if I can avoid it?
Thank you in advance!

LEAP 15.1 ssl certificate missing since update

$

Hi,
on a Leap 15.1 system, for a VPN connection I use a certificate that was located at /etc/ssl/certs/Deutsche_Telekom_Root_CA_2.pem.
Now this is missing (and of course, I can no longer connect to the VPN network).
On another, second installation the certificate is still present, so I can probably trace this back to an update that was recently made on the first system, but not on the second one.
Has this certificate been delete for some reason?
Can it be restored?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Best regards
B

TUMBLEWEED how to start openvpn as root at boot

$

Hi, I'm trying to run openvpn at boot while giving it some parameters (account name and password of my vpn).
The script has to run as root. I thought it would do so automatically if I just place it in the start-up folder, and maybe it does but I don't see the result. Maybe that's because I also don't know how to give it my credentials so a secure connection can be made.
While doing it by hand it works, but I don't want to have to type my log-in name and password at every boot.
How do I make the script run automatically and use the credentials?

The forum search is not working for me -- it just gives an error.

[Solved -- see second post]

Hello. I have just recently registered, because I am a new user of OpenSUSE. I tried to search the forums via the search bar on the top right corner, and I got the following feedback:

Quote:

The following errors occurred with your search

The answer given for the random question was incorrect.

I tried a few variations on my search, including trying the "Advanced Search", and I always got the same response.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Any idea how to fix this?

I am using OpenSUSE 15.1 with the Firefox browser 68.5.0esr (64-bit).
