LEAP 15.1 Is there a way to automatically reserve bad page frames?

I am getting a lot of single bit ECC failures at the same address. Is there a way to set a threshold for the number of failures, such that when the hits pass the threshold Linux will automatically move the page to a different page frame, or page it out, and then mark the bad page frame as permanently reserved?

LEAP 15.1 Problem with Grid Multifactor Authentication and Firefox 68.1.0 esr

$

Hello folks!

I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with Grid Multifactor Authentication and the 68 esr versions of Firefox? I downgraded to the 60 versions in the repo via YaST, tested them, and all worked fine. So I was wondering if there a new security feature or setting that I need to change or tweak to get this to work again and allow me to have access to a feature on my company's employee website.
My web searches has given me nothing of value. I'm open to suggestions. I'm using 15.1 KDE.

Thanks,
Dave

Anita machine is not happy

Anita machine ( Ah neet ah macheen) is not happy. I told her she would be an all powerful Raspberry Pi computer with a custom hat to run her CNC legs and 3D Print arms. She would be using the brains supplied by opensuse leap 15.1 ported to arm64 and she would be self contained and complete.

Stage 1: Design the Base for all the electronics (power supply, ventilation, RPI-3B+, Protoneer hat, DRV8825 drivers, Front panel with [10" HDMI display, power on/standby, tool power, lighting power, External USB, Secondary SD card slot, Joystick, and bubble level]).
This stage seemed to go real well. Re-purposing an old ATX power supply provides 35A at 5V, 15A at 3.3v, and 12A at 12v would have loved to swap the current specs of 5v and 12v but re-users can't be choosers. Cabinet base 26" wide, 7" high and 33" deep.
It has leveling feet in case the table it rests on is not level. (reason for bubble level).

Stage 2: Design the X-YA-Z axis system and Table bed. Here I gave Anita polished Aluminum frame 25" x 26.5"x 3". Using OpenBuilds CNC and 3D Print material. The table is a fixed position type 17" x 17" with moving Y-axis gantry with dual motors. Working height is 12" and total height is 38". So far so good. Using CBeam for the rails, Vslot for the frame and gantry she is real sturdy.

Stage 3: Design Tools holders for Dremel, Laser cutter, Etchant Resist Pen, and 3DPrint head. Added plans for vacuum attachment for the Dremel, 120v Gantry power for tools that need it, Mounting for Filament reels and pathing for wires to be hidden out of harms way. The 3D Print head unplugs at the Gantry and automatically disables the 3D power at the driver when unplugged. Really looking good.

Stage 4: Find and download opensuse for arm64 (Raspberry Pi) , got it but don't know if it will work because now we enter the problems phase.
Problem 1: Micro SD Card not recognized by opensuse (think the card is defective)
Problem 2: Download / Install Etcher to format SD CARD says no card to be found.
Problem 3: Protoneer for Pi 3B+ blocks GPIO pins needed for joystick, SDCard, Temp Sense, No problem just make PCB to move pins sideways.
Problem 4: Protoneer can not run 4 motors independently. You can run XYZ with 4th not present or you can run XYZ with 4th being a clone of 1 axis. So no 3D Print possible with this board. It is CNC only.
***Create custom Driver board for Pi (5 axis: XYAZH, A=Y, H=3DPrint head), 5 DRV8825 drivers, 2 ILQ4 & 1 ILQ2 opto-isolators for the signals EN-CNC, EN-3DPrint, STEPx-ya-z-h, DIR x-ya-z-h, MCP3008 ADCx8 (joystickU/D, JoystickL/R, Joy-button, Temp-head, Temp-Bed, Proximity Sense,2 unused), xlimit, ylimit, zlimt, +3.3v, +5v, +12v, GND***

Reality check: LinuxCNC, Octipi, and all other variants found to date are low speed serial c**p. Even Adunino realized it was not living up to expectations at 9600 Baud and switched from rediculously slow to just generally slow at 115200bps. I2C runs at 100kbps, 400kbps,1200kbps,and 3200kbps and SPI runs at 4800kbps. So when they talk of latency problems with system and security routines delaying data transfer, it isn't the whole story. The tiny dual buffers of the Arduino UNO can't hold much and has to parse 64 bytes to 128 bytes which take time to fetch at 115kbps (1.1ms). The RPI runs at 700MHz to 1.4GHz and can update any GPIO as fast as 0.00142us per instance.

So moving ahead what I think would be a an excellent plan is to convert Arduino Gcode processor to RPI Gcode processor, only instead of sending to Arduino pins, send to GPIO pins, Instead of getting Gcode from USB attached computer, get it from fake USB port and store local into buffers. But and there is always a but, I need to figure out how to take normal output from OctoPrint or LinuxCNC and redirect the to an imitation USB that reports to Octoprint etc what an Arduino would normally say. and instead just store and process the Gcode itself to GPIO.

Regards to all from Rick

LEAP 15.1 SCANVIRUS application layer for clamscan - alpha 8 - suggestion box

Hello. I would have normally uploaded changes just before January. I usually add new features that might be handy. However, I've run out of ideas for features to add. It's easy to use, saves all the data I need, simple commands, and quick to use any features.

The only problem I've had is forgetting to back the virus vault. Future: USB backup command for virus vault. For those who want to keep the info for authorities, such as USA - FBI. Internet Crime Complaint center.

Also, be warned clamscan engine may flag false positives. So, be careful with the move command. I may have corrupted my win10 system, more than once.

I just got a MicroView USB Digitial Microscope, but it doesn't work on Leap 15.1. It works on my Lenovo Android tablet, and on an old Windows XP laptop, so I know it's not defective. I could just use the tablet, but what fun is that? Running "Cheese", it says "no device found".

I ran this:

Ponieważ ja i żona mamy ajfony, zacząłem myśleć o jakimś komputerze z jabłkiem.

Raczej nie wywalę tyle kasy, by zastąpić blaszaka czymś nowszym i mocniejszym.

LEAP 15.1 Package questions | looking to install gMTP

$

Hello. It seems that gMTP, which is a program that I find useful for connecting with my LineageOS phone (an Android like phone), is not available in the main repositories of OpenSUSE (at least, thatt's what YaST reports to me). I come from a Debian background. If a program wasn't available in the official repositories, then sometimes some alternate repository could be found. Or, sometimes a package could be built from source, if need be (IE, it could be ported to the stable distribution from Sid's sources).

I'm not sure what the deal is with packages in OpenSUSE. I realize it's RPM based. So, if I find an RPM from Fedora or Mandriva, can I just use that? Or is there some other pool of OpenSUSE packages available somewhere? A different repository that can be enabled? A tool to build packages from source?

LEAP 15.1 QApplication & QThread issues when forking multiple xterms and ipdb

$

Hi,
for 'ages' I have been using a standard procedure to debug apps on Suse, developed using MPI and e.g. Python. However on Leap 15.1 this standard procedure crashes with many QT warnings and errors, which are beyond me. The procedure for the parallel debugging session simply is to invoke a small number of processes on the command line like so
Code:

mpiexec -n 2 xterm -geometry 80x20 -e ipdb myapp.py
where each process runs its own debugger (for Python, ipdb) within a terminal (eg. xterm).
Now, on Leap 15.1, interacting with the debugger within each of the xterms forked will eventually produce stuff like
Code:

WARNING: QApplication was not created in the main() thread.
a/o
Code:

QObject: Cannot create children for a parent that is in a different thread.
(Parent is QApplication(0x7fdd40001e90), parent's thread is QThread(0x7fdd40006390), current thread is QThread(0x7fdd400262f0)

Primarily this happens, if one tries to step or run between breakpoints.

Just to be absolutely clear, the app "myapp.py" is free of QT-code or graphics. I.e. the QT warnings/errors stem from the operating system.

Any help to fix this would be most appreciated.

Hi,
Is there a way of doing zypper dup to a newer version of OpenSuse Leap (or switching to tumbleweed/leap) in a way that it removes all the packages but the ones included in selected patterns? Thus after upgrade it feels like if you did a fresh install.
Thanks

TUMBLEWEED Skype new user: openSUSE repository or Skype official?

I've held out for as long as I can, but will soon become a first-time user of the proprietary Skype software. Setup will begin when I receive my webcam and headset.

My research suggests that I can install in one of two ways:

* Via openSUSE (my preference) through the network:telephony project:

https://software.opensuse.org//downl...&package=skype

* Straight from Skype:

https://repo.skype.com/rpm/stable/

Can any existing users of Skype on openSUSE suggest which of these routes is likelier to offer better results, or mention pros and cons or following one route or the other? Any other Skype tips will be appreciated, too.

TUMBLEWEED hp printer problem after snapshot 20200309

Hello,

after the installation of the snapshot 20200309 I cannot print on a HP Color laserjet M251.
CUPS displays the printer status as "Stopped" and I find the error in /var/log/cups/error_log
Code:

12/Mar/2020:11:45:59 +0100] HPLIP_200: File \"/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpps\" not available: No such file or directory
In /usr/lib/cups/filter I see only 2 files related to HP: hpcups and hpcupsfax.

If I try modifying the printer in CUPS I cannot more find the M251 model (it was available before).
As there are many HP Color laserjet using the hpcups driver I selected a printer model (MFP m177fw) using this driver and after restarting CUPS I'm able to print a test page.

Seems that some models have been removed from the list of HP printers.
Question: Does the model choiced have an impact on the printer capabilities?

In the file /etc/cups/printer.conf i have now
Code:

MakeModel HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP m177fw, hpcups 3.19.12
DeviceURI hp:/net/HP_Laserjet_200_color_M251n?ip=10.0.4.50

Many thanks in advance

LEAP 15.1 Speech recognition software

I am 78 years old and sadly experiencing the ravages of time such that my comprehension and memory are not what they once were, added to that I have only one hand for typing and my control of that is much reduced due to a stroke.
I am looking for speech recognition software that would integrate with Libre Office and allow me to write documents without having to actually type.
Can any one tell me if any easily installed and used software exists that would meet my requirements.

Thank you,
merkland.

TUMBLEWEED BetriebssystemSicherung

Hello All
How are you?

I am trying to install KVM. I did follow many blogs and "How to" about KVM in opensuse. The last kind of installation went by this link
In all installation kind after do the bridge I lost connection host and KVM VM too. At my scenario my host has a stattic IP (10.1.1.x)
I did try manually kvm install and for last one by Yast. I did try with Oracle VM and It works nice. I want use KVM because, reading about, seems it is better than Oracle VM
