TUMBLEWEED zypper question

I've been updating a TW minimal mate installation since May with the default settings in /etc/zypp/zypp.conf. After noticing that unrequired packages were sometimes being installed during updates, I changed solver.onlyRequires to true in the zypp.conf file. Is there any way to get a list of packages that have been installed as recommends during the "zypper dup" commands?

Thanks,
Gene

LEAP 15.2 Since 5.3.18-lp152.41 Unable to boot: fb0 switchting to amdgpudrmfb from EFI VGA

$

Hi all,

since yesterday, after I zypper up-dated to 5.4.18-lp152.41 my openSUSE Leap 15.2 installation is unable to boot.
After GRUB, only a black screen with a small _ in the upper right corner can be seen.
When I boot in Recovery-Mode, I can see the following message in the last line:

fb0: switchting to amdgpudrmfb from EFI VGA

(Here is a literal screenshot I snapped of the non-functioning boot: https://i.lx-s.de/y/5f61ba96637ba.JPG
)

My graphics card is an MSI AMD RX 5700.
When selecting "Advanced Options in GRUB" and boot with openSUSE Leap 15.2, with Linux 5.3.18-lp152.36-default
everything works and the system boots up normally.

As I am just in the process of setting everything up to use Linux more often than Windows, this openSUSE-installation doesn't see much usage currently,
the only thing I do is pretty much updating it constantly. Also, since everything works with the older kernel, I assume it's a bug with the new one
and not something my installation/configuration is guilty off.

For now, I've added oldest to multiversion.kernels in /etc/zypp/zypp.conf to keep my system bootable.

If I can add any additional information, please tell me, as I am really new at reporting openSUSE (or Linux in general) problems, I am not yet savvy in which
information should be provided by default.

TUMBLEWEED Can I keep a local snapshot for reverting when the archive has already pruned my previous version?

$

Hi!

I am using Tumbleweed with the tumbleweed-cli and I am upgrading every few weeks after looking at the current stability review. Now, it happened that 20200908 caused Qt Creator to hang here (could not yet investigate), so I decided to `tumbleweed revert --install` which should have taken me back to 20200807 but, alas, that version is already pruned. OK, I now went back to 20200816 which is the oldest snapshot on the archive and I am keeping my fingers crossed that will get me back to operational state but I was wondering whether there is a way I could keep the packages of my last installed and known to work snapshot around locally, so I can _always_ go back to that after switching to a new version? Having one stable version as a backup would really feel good.

Tilman

LEAP 15.2 openSUSE Linux JeOS - Vmware/Xen/Hyper-V customization

Hello team,

I need expert advices regarding to building an opensuse JeOS distro for vmware/hyper-v/xen environments for a custom software.

Basically i see that there are vmware/hyper-v/xen images for opensuse leap 15.2 JeOs at https://software.opensuse.org/distributions/leap address.

I would like to edit these images just to add a custom repository as well as to add some RPM dependency packages.

Honestly, i need to learn what is the best way to modify these images in a straight forward manner - i do not want to build whole images from stracth just to edit a few repository lines and to add some RPMs.

Please guide me about how to achive this goal - if there is a how-to-guide etc. would be best.

Thank you for your helps.

TUMBLEWEED Lenovo Ideapad 5 Touchpas works in Live but not Install

I have a Lenovo Ideadpad 5 (model 15ARE05) which I am running on Fedora 32 kernel 5.8.7. I tried the Tumbleweed gnome live cd and everything including the trackpad was working sweet.

I then downloaded the DVD install media and tried to install, but this time the touchpad is not recognised. I plugged in a mouse and continued the install hoping it would go fine, but the touchpad is not recognised.

This is what DMESG from F32 reports:
[ 2.789707] input: ELAN0001:00 04F3:3140 Touchpad as /devices/platform/AMDI0010:01/i2c-1/i2c-ELAN0001:00/0018:04F3:3140.0004/input/input18

The install DVD i downloaded Monday, the x86_64 4.33GB version.

How can I get the installer to see my touchpad?

Thanks for your help

TUMBLEWEED Enabeling emacs.service => "*ERROR*: Display :0 can’t be opened"

I'm using Emacs all the time. So I tried to start it as a daemon:

Code:

systemctl --user enable emacs.service
Created symlink /home/AW/.config/systemd/user/default.target.wants/emacs.service → /usr/lib/systemd/user/emacs.service.
AW@linux-izun:~> systemctl --user start emacs.service

For other reasons I had to reboot. Then:
Code:

emacsclient -c &
[1] 4047
AW@linux-izun:~> *ERROR*: Display :0 can’t be opened
[1]+  Exit 1                  emacsclient -c

The content of emacs.service is:
Code:

[Unit]
Description=Emacs text editor
Documentation=info:emacs man:emacs(1) https://gnu.org/software/emacs/

[Service]
Type=notify
ExecStart=/usr/bin/emacs --fg-daemon
ExecStop=/usr/bin/emacsclient --eval "(kill-emacs)"

# set it from PAM, so don't override by default.
# Environment=SSH_AUTH_SOCK=%t/keyring/ssh
Restart=on-failure

[Install]

What is wrong with my setup?

Code:

Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: package akonadi-server-20.04.2-lp152.1.1.x86_64 is not installed
Same result using YaST or plasma applet.
I updated other packages without any problem.

TUMBLEWEED Firefox does not play videos

I try opensuse tumbleweed but is not userfriendly to install videocodecs.
If i add a repo packman then i choose to install vlc and after that i get errors with dependencies.>:)
Also epiphany does not play any video.
On debian i can watch videos with firefox and epihany.Not with opensuse.Its a mess with dependencies errors if i install videocodecs or installing vlc when add pacman repo.
There a two vlc .One is vlc and the other vlc-beta.installing vlc-beta or vlc-codecs does not install because dependencies are not correct.very confusing .
Opensuse is a mess with dependencies errors and i cannot play any video from youtube or anything else.
Why is there are no easy installer for installing codecs?

TUMBLEWEED Lost ability to configure Desktop both dispays after recent update

Tumbleweed
KDE

After a recent Tumbleweed update of 250+ files I have lost the ability to configure the Desktop settings on both displays. (Dual display set-up obviously.)

For example, I could previously set the Desktop wallpaper background on both displays. Now I can only do that on 1 display. The other display gets an un-changable black background and no response to right-mouse-click which should present a menu to change the display settings.

TUMBLEWEED Is some aggressive CPU power-saving active during screen-lock?

$

Hi!

I am observing an awkward effect: When I am running a longer running computation task that usually takes about 20 minutes while I am at the machine that when I go afk and the screen lock kicks in that when I come back after 30 minutes, the task is still not completed. Is there some aggressive power-saving triggered when the screen-locking is kicking in? Something like powering down cores or setting the CPU to a very low frequency? Is that known? Where can I start looking for that? This is on Tumbleweed 20200816. The machine was not in any kind of suspend mode - at least as soon as I touched a key, I could unlock the screen.

Tilman
