I forgot my windows login password and locked, I can't access to it for my opensuse.

I found and the program "chntpw" in the build service, but it seems on beta status. And most information i found of it is very outdated.
Has anyone used it?
does it work ok on all modern windows 10?

any other alternatives you can recommend?

thanks

TUMBLEWEED Disk claims to be full, even after deleting files

Hello everyone,

I have been running Tumbleweed for nearly a year. My drive is is an SSD formatted in btrfs. It is claiming to be full, even though I have just removed >= 30 GB of files in the terminal using rm(so no potential trash can problems). I still cannot do anything that writes to the disk or it gives an error. I’ve attached some hopefully relevant output as an image, because I cannot get any information off of this machine, since the hard drive claims to be full so applications won’t work. Also, the drive itself appears to work fine under Windows. I’m rather at a loss of what to try next, and I would appreciate any advice on how to proceed.

Thanks

LEAP 42.2 Need help recovering Plasma Desktop

I have been running 42.2, very stable , from the KF5/QT5 repos for a few months.
I run manual updates using YAST2 on a regular basis.

Earlier this week, attempts to update generated numerous dependency issues, all of which appeared to be version related disconnects.
When these issues appeared back with 42.1/KF5, the recommendation was to ignore the warning, which has worked well until last night.

I am now in a most unusual (to me) state. System boots to Greeter as normal, I login, Plasma will not run but Kwin (I believe) is running, displaying a few windows that auto restore from prior sessions, including Firefox, which is currently enabling this Forum entry.
I have no application launcher, so can't start Yast Software management, but am able to open a console with ctll-alt-F1 and run YAST from command line.
But so far, there is nothing new in the repos to help get out of this situation.

I have concluded that I would like to revert to a standard 42.2 installation, I don't believe I need the advanced versions of Plasma and QT5 and seek a more stable environment.

My thinking is to disable the KF5 and QT5 repos, then refresh all repos and 'zypper dup', all this from an init 3 console, of course.
I am thinking that will back down versions of packages to the 42.2 and 42.2 update repos.

Is this a sane approach?

I have not been in a situation like this since way back in release 11 or 12, when I wandered off into "Factory" space unintentionally.
KF5 seems to be increasingly too bleeding edge , for me at least.

SuSEfirewall2

Code:

Download (curl) error for 'http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/42.2/oss/noarch/SuSEfirewall2-3.6.312-5.3.1.noarch.rpm':

Posted similar to above message for libgstallocators-1_0-0

Do messages Curl error 52 and Empty reply from server mean package sort not found, a typo error ?

Both appearing a week or longer, when updating some installations failed with message these two missing.

When install item by item ignoring above two missing items, most installations completed OK.

Curious today tried remove older versions, then restarted, to see if able to install ok, appears removed most of GNOME in the process, restart into the IceWM screen.

At least can do essential things using IceWM :-)

Struggling to figure out how to return to GNOME, were the two removed essentials.

TUMBLEWEED liblua.so.5.2 vs liblua5.2.so.0

Hello folks,

I have a problem with a game I am failing to start, because of shared libraries issues.
I think I could the problem, when I understand data-file-types in /usr/lib/

To the problem:

The game I want to play is: cataclysm dark days ahead

When I tried to launch the game, I get the output:

Code:

amdabdf93@linux-jegy:~/Downloads/cataclysmdda-0.C> ./cataclysm-launcher
./cataclysm-tiles: error while loading shared libraries: liblua5.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Ok, so installed the package liblua5_2-32bit. However the the error is still the same.

When I look in /usr/lib/ I can only find the data iblua.so.5.2 but not liblua5.2.so.0 .

When I tried an older version of the game which uses liblua5.1.so.0 I can start the game and play it.
The liblua5.1.so.0 exists in /usr/lib/

So the question is, what is difference between iblua.so.5.2 and liblua5.2.so.0 and how do I get liblua5.2.so.0

Greetings from Berlin

Hi,

After upgrading to Linux 4.11 when rebooting the system displayed a message that loading a kernel module has been failed. So I ran
Code:

dkms autoinstall
again. And the error was with building the NVIDIA module. Please refer the dkms log I copied down below. Is there any patch has been released for this or is there any workaround?

Thanks! :-)

Hi everyone,

I've installed Tumbleweed under Gnome 3.24 and it haven't detected my dual gpu Intel/Nvidia. Only appears Intel Sandybridge Mobile after the fresh install and the update. But I red that GNome 3.24 detects and allows to start programs using the discrete GPU using a contextual menu. How can I fix it? Thanks

TUMBLEWEED package obsolete when updating

Hi all,

since about 2 weeks I get a dependency-problem when updating my tumbleweed installation:
Code:

argon:~/bin # zypper dup --no-allow-vendor-change
Warning: You are about to do a distribution upgrade with all enabled repositories. Make sure these repositories are compatible before you continue. See
'man zypper' for more information about this command.

 Solution 1: keep obsolete bundle-lang-kde-en-13.2-39.2.noarch
Solution 2: install bundle-lang-kde-en-13.2-41.1.noarch (with vendor change)

Choose from above solutions by number or cancel [1/2/c] (c):

At first, I just choose to keep the obsolete package, thinking packman will catch up, thus resolving the issue. But now it looks like that's not the right solution.
On the other hand, I read all times at this forum, to update without allowing a vendor-change.
So, can anyone advice how to loose this issue, and in the same time, still have a consistent package-set?

Oh, my repolist:
Code:

I'm trying KeePassX for the first time.

There are 2 icon buttons: copy-username-to-clipboard and copy-password-to-clipboard, they don't seem to work.

I select an entry in the database which gets highlighted, click the copy-username-to-clipboard, click on a webpage username, then control-V and nothing gets copied.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

OTHER VERSION GPU passthrough - Various virtualization technologies

Although this post starts a new thread, it's also in response to another thread in the Applications Forum
https://forums.opensuse.org/showthre...GPU-NVidia-GPU

Some references I consider best as of today.
As I described earlier, hardware pass-through(particularly GPU) in virtualization is very new, but is possibly arriving at some stability based on standards like IOMMU and VFIO only within the past half year or so (as of today). So, you're probably looking at this at a good time when everything isn't "The Wild West" when individuals were pushing into unexplored territory, and finally when everyone is generally working on, and improving the same things. But, it's still so early everywhere that there may still be unknown wrinkles that need to be addressed. So, besides what I'll post here, be sure to join communities supporting the specific procedures you follow. And, only follow guides written as recently as possible, preferably within the past 6 months or so.

In any case, this is probably a good time to post something that could be considered a milestone reference for people looking at this for at least the next half year or so.

Virtualbox
As usual, VBox is a bit behind the others without a clear guide for enabling GPU pass-through. The following link to the VBox Advanced Configuration documentation, specifically PCI passthrough in general and with a section on passing through a webcam

As I noted in my prior post,
If you consider a non-virtualization technology like docker or LXC, you likely wouldn't have to deal with virtualized devices and pass-through at all because Linux containers always have direct access to hardware devices. I haven't researched this approach but I do suspect you would only need to assign resources using tried and true common methods that have been around for many years.

Particularly for this technology, also search for GPU topics related to your chosen virtualization in this openSUSE Technical Help -Virtualization forum for related information that might cover developments and issues not mentioned in the above references.

LEAP 42.2 Changing Video Driver on 42.2

My HP Proliant ML110 G7 has a Matrox mgam200 chip. When I install 42.2, the screen is corrupt after login. This can be fixed by booting with nomodeset. However under this condition the system does not correctly recognize the monitor resolutions and I have not been able to correct this by altering 50-monitor.conf. The driver xf86-video-mga, which I believe to be the correct driver, came installed on the system, but the system is using nouveau. I want to try the xf86-video-mga driver without nomodeset, but I have read things I do not understand about needing to "blacklist" nouveau, and I am generally shaky on the subject of drivers. I do not want to get the system into a state from which I cannot recover. Can someone give me the detailed steps to do this safely?

LEAP 42.2 USB and Cinnamon

Leap 42.2, Cinnamon desktop. Cinnamon version 3.40.

I got 2 new USB sticks from Microcenter, and anytime I insert one or the other, do they do not automount. It will show in Nemo, but clicking on it kicks out 'Unable to mount volume. Not authorized to perform this operation'.

I have other USB sticks and external drives that mount with no issues.

If I boot up a Win10 VM in Virtualbox, I can attach it to the VM, and move files to it.

I logged in under Plasma, and Dolphin wants root credentials to mount it. If I provide the credentials, it mounts fine.

Sticks are formatted FAT32.

Kinda stumped...any suggestions? I would think that since other USB devices mount fine, these should as well.

Thx in advance.

Newby - who hopes he is in the right place.
I am using Tumbleweed KDE.

I attempt to add software using the system - install remove software
When I sigh in as root I get a popup message ruby-KDia;og > Configuration file "/root/.config/rubyrc" not writable. Please contact your system administrator.

The file does not appear - even as a hidden file.

A/ Is there a way to search these forums to read previous posts on this issue?

B/ What should I do next?

Thank you.

OTHER VERSION Can't update/upgrade old installation 12.3

I have an openSuse system that I use for software development, and I would rather leave it as is.
But if I try to install software, there is no repository there to talk to!

Code:

@linux-cyy8:~/artisan/sound> sudo zypper refresh
Repository 'openSUSE-12.3-1.7' is up to date.
File '/content' not found on medium 'http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.3/repo/non-oss/'

Abort, retry, ignore? [a/r/i/? shows all options] (a):
ABORT request: Aborting requested by user
rw@linux-cyy8:~/artisan/sound>

There is no 12.3 under http://download.opensuse.org/distribution
Or in http://download.opensuse.org/update
Is there any way I can update or upgrade this system online?
