recently upgraded to Leap42.2

Last night I tried to play a DVD video and all of vlc, xine and mplayer failed to find the DVD. I am guessing the /dev/dvd and /dev/sr0 files do not exist or have their names changed.
How do I get DVD playing back? Works from a file btw

Running with no gnome or KDE -- plain fvwm and X11

TUMBLEWEED No Wireless or Bluetooth; WLAN0 unable to be configured

So I've been using OpenSuse for college because I'm a Computer Network Engineering Student, and Opensuse Leap does not seem to support Google Drive in the KDE Environment. I've gotten that working on Tumbleweed on another computer.

Well, my mom gave me her old Dell Studio that was running Vista (Vista is now obsolete so I put OpenSuse Tumbleweed on it to enable Google Drive Access via a KIO repository).

Well, there was no wireless available so after install, I ran some bash commands. The drivers were not available or installed.

I got the drivers installed, but still nothing. This is what I have so far:

Code:

/usr/sbin/hwinfo --wlan --short
shows nothing

Code:

/usr/sbin/hwinfo

does not list any wlan info at all

That being said,

when I run lspci I get:

Code:

b43legacy firmware successfully installed.

With all this being said, (this is my third or fourth time doing all this) I have looked at the stickies, I have rebooted. The stickies at the top do not seem to be of any help as the
information is outdated.

I have tried installing pacman.

The scripts listed in one of the stickies is actually for a debian system and the repository mentioned in the script is no longer in existence.

WLAN0 cannot be found or configured.

I also have no bluetooth which is built into the computer.

The cards worked fine under Vista.

The computer is a Dell Studio Desktop manufactured around late 2008/early 2009. Custom from what my mom said, made for gaming.

Back in 2009 this was considered top of the line.

I am typing this on it, I have hooked up the Ethernet Cable for the time being beings I don't have a choice (I do have 2 laptops, but I want to set this up as an entertainment system
running Linux and as an extra storage area for files in part because I don't have a DVD Player and not everything is available on my smart tv in terms of movie applications and such... and spotify isn't free on the tv
which is much louder on the tv than the computers - and for those having problems there, I have gottn Spotify to run successfully on Konqueror but not Firefox, Opera, or Chromium).

While yes, it is a desktop, there are various reasons why I want a wireless connection set up. They are actually very good reasons... such as not wanting to worry about
tripping over ethernet/HDMI/cable wires because of where I want to put the TV.

I have tried Wicked and NetworkManager. It won't scan or let me configure WLAN0. I have no records of WLAN0 on the computer. I also ran a command that confirmed
that the wireless drivers are installed (I looked the command up online), and the drivers were installed for the wireless chip. I will have to double check what command that was.
Bluetooth will be important later (which it isn't working either!).

LEAP 42.2 Simple file searcher that doesn't use baloo or tracker?

Does any one know of one ? Something like kde3's kfind that can use the find / locate index if needed. ;) Currently I am having to use midnight commander which is fine but sometimes I want to save the output.

I looked at installing kfind on lxde but it had an enormous number of kde dependencies - :O including phonon. :)Must be a noisy search. Odd really as I did think it was still a kde3 application.

TUMBLEWEED Can't reduce swappiness in /etc/sysctl.conf

I'm running on an SSD and I wanted to reduce swappiness in order to try to decrease the number of writes to the SSD. I may just reinstall without a swap partition but from all my googling (and experience on other distros) it looks like I should be able to set swappiness lower by adding
Code:

vm.swappiness=1
to /etc/sysctl.conf. I've done so but the system doesn't seem to be respecting it as running
Code:

cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
still returns 60. Is this the proper way to reduce swappiness on TW?

LEAP 42.2 How to remove widget from panel?

$

Just installed 42.2 today, moving from 13.1. Added the "Application Launcher" to the panel. Decided to remove it, but I can't find any way to do so. Mouse right-click over the icon give me menu with 4 choices: "Edit Applications", "Application Launcher settings", "Alternatives", and "Panel Options". "Panel Options" expands to "Add Widgets", "Add Panel", "Lock Widgets", and "Panel Settings". "Panel Settings" also allows me to Add Widgets. But I don't see anything, anywhere, that allows me to remove widgets. Also tried long, long, left mouse-click on icon, which only brought up the expected application. Installed KDE help gives no example of removing widgets from panel, only adding them.

Removing widgets from the panel is still possible, correct?

OTHER VERSION New Pandora on Leap 42.1

Has anyone figured out how to get the new Pandora application to run on Leap 42.1? I get the interface up and the advertisements appear but no audio. The application fails in both Chromium and Firefox. The previous classic Pandora ran without problems and I can't figure out what has changed.

There is a similar question at https://forums.opensuse.org/showthre...hlight=pandora which suggests loading a large number of CODECs but the suggested answer didn't fix my particular problem.

Apparently it is not present either. Are per chance its contents packaged with a different name? Can I safely ignore this dependency?

LEAP 42.2 Multiple issues after recent updates (May 2017)

Dear all,

I have several severe issues after the recent updates. I use Leap 42.2 on an HP Elitebook 8440p with NVidia graphics.

- Mounting of samba share through smb4k does not work anymore; I have tried to reset smb4k, re-installed smb4k, it finds the samba folders but end in a dead loop when I try to mount them through smb4k. I can access through dolphin, and also mount shares from the console. I went through the firewall settings as well, and even tried to set SUID to mount.cifs. This did not help.

- Virtualbox crashes *the whole system* immediately when I try to start a Windows session. This means: No mouse pointer, black screen, no access to console, no ctrl-alt-f1 or the like. I have to hard-shut-down and restart the system.

- Some issues with graphics system in general: the three icons in each window top right corner are suddenly invisible/disappear.

- Some general instabilities with KDE GUI - like disappearing bottom panel, etc.

Anyone experienced similar issues? Thanks!

LEAP 42.2 Schwere Probleme nach letzten Updates

$

Hallo,

Danke!

Gruß

Eriol

OTHER VERSION SuseLeap 42.1 - VLAN tagging on a Intel i219-LM

Hi everyone!

I have a SuseLeap 42.1 installation on a HP Elite workstation. The workstation has and Intel Ethernet Connection (2) i219 LM card which is working fine, but I need to use VLAN tagging and I can't figure out how to configure it. Of course I googled around trying to find some information and I found nothing.

I thought about installing the specific drivers for SuseLeap 42.1 from here: https://software.opensuse.org/package/intel-e1000e but it says that they are unsupported. What does exactly mean? Do they work or not? If I install the new drivers will they have the option to use VLAN tagging?

Anything would help!

Thank you.

LEAP 42.2 DLNA client

$

Over the years have tried a few times to get a DLNA client working on opensuse, but still no success...
Have a fairly standard Leap 42.2 x64 install, using Pacman repos, but have never successfully got a dlna client working.
VLC>playlist>Local Network>Universal Plug'n'play (generally the recommended solution) - nothing. Comes back with a blank playlist window - I have several DLNA sources on the network - Plex, a router, a PVR, and at various times possibly an android device.
Yes, I know there are a few DLNA client command line apps that probably work, but, seriously, this is one of the things that a lot of 'newbies' will want to do, and can be done easily on just about any other operating system, but not on linux/opensuse particularly.
Anyone have an easy, graphical way of doing this?
Thanks.
(BTW, I DO love opensuse... :-) )
Thanks.

openSUSE 42.3 beta (build 0246) KDE

Hi!

I don't know if this is the right sub-forum to post in. I kind of missing the regular alpha/beta releases (I know it’s a "rolling development") and comment from others who have tested. And I have not seen to many comments in the mailing list as well..

Anyway, It's looks good. Tested as a regular user on a notebook and everything I do day to day work. NFS client, WI-Fi, 2 printers/scanners (net connected Brother/HP) digikam against a externial SQL-server, Libreoffice, Dolphin etc.

Of course add. repos is still missing (packman etc.).

I was surprised that the Swedish translation was better then I have seen before (I running only English otherwise) where it exists.

Ok! Some whining (as usual), this with show the whole list of disk-partitions during setup/install is confusing for a ordinary user, should maybe be only showing in "expert" part..

Greetings

I have an Anker bluetooth headset which I would like to use for music and communication. Since Pulseaudio 10 supports to switch the profiles automatically, I was hoping to get a neat multimedia experience on Tumbleweed.

However, Pulseaudio swiches from A2DP to HSP/HFP, but not back.

Fix for os-prober

You have probably noticed that grub2 cannot detect an installation of Tumbleweed or Leap 42.2 and 42.3 Beta using BTRFS on a separate drive and partition.

Fix

Add this repository or download os-prober to your /home/username directory and update the os-prober package.

http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...USE_Leap_42.2/

Run:
Code:

grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
You will notice that Tumbleweed and any other distro installed using BTRFS appears in the Grub2 menu.

OTHER VERSION can't fsck after failing to boot

Hi all,

I am new here, I came across the forum while searching for a possible solution to a problem and I hope that posting this question does not violate any forum rules:

I have a virtual machine at work, the only linux VM in the office. I connect to it only via teamviewer. The VM was offline for 2 weeks and when I started it today I got these messages:

Code:

dev/sda3 contains a filesystem with errors check forced.
dev/sda3 inodes that were part of a corrupted orphan linked list found
unexpected inconsistency run fsck manually (without -a or -p options)

I booted from disk and entered the rescue. Logged in as root (no password needed) and I tried to:

Code:

fsck dev/sda3
but the only result I get is:

Code:

fsck from util-linux 2.23.2
and the same results I get even when I just fsck --help.

Does anyone have an idea of what could I do do recover the system?

Thanks a lot to everyone.

LEAP 42.2 why does konsole take 4 minutes to open on my desktop

Leap 42.2 updated from 42.1, Plasma5. Computer desktop i-7 w/ 24 gig ram.

When I open konsole or any of my apps that run in konsole it takes several minutes before the window opens.
On the task bar I see the spinning circle for a few seconds, then it closes, as if it failed. But about 3-5 minutes later, the window opens.

This did not happen is 42.1 What can I look for to troubleshoot this problem?
The XTerm window opens immediately, it's just konsole and several apps I run in konsole that are effected.
